Mounting Drawer Slides on the bottom of drawers?
Videos
Hey guys, question about drawer box construction using Blum undermount slides…. I plan on making my boxes using the 1/4 1/4 1/4 method with 1/2” material.
My question has to do with the drawer bottom inset spacing. Do my boxes need to have the full a/2 inch inset as circled in the picture? Or can I build the boxes with just the 1/4” inset that the QQQ method would give me? Just trying to understand if I need to adjust the fence to inset that drawer bottom the full 1/2” or if I can leave it alone as I build.
Thanks for educating me on this!
So I am creating a platform for a mini fridge and I want it to be able to slide out from under my desk. I have to mount drawers slides on the bottom instead of the sides. Can I do this with regular drawer slides or will this bend them and mess up the ball bearings?
The boxes are completely flat on the bottom. No notching is necessary. I tried to just use single center-mount slides, but they aren't, strictly speaking, meant for this purpose, and ended up being far too wobbly side to side. I thought maybe installing two of them side by side would be perfect, but if you're not extremely precise with the spacing, it doesn't work. I ended up breaking both bearing traces on the slides and ruined two rails.
So I figure there are two possibilities:
-
Just get the two-rail solution perfect. No biggie, right? I tried using a wooden block to get the spacing exactly right, but of course, the inner rail is slightly differently spaced than the outer, which creates problems. What's the answer to this problem? How do I get the spacing exactly right the first time without having to unscrew, shift the rails, then screw back down in a slightly different spot, etc.?

Use the center rail solution, but put two wooden or plastic sliders on either side to keep the whole thing from rocking. Trouble here is that I'm not sure where to get 3/8" thick plastic or wooden stock that would work, and the center rail is just a little thicker than that anyway, so it might STILL rock (just not as much.)

Or of course, a third possibility that you fine folks might know that hasn't occurred to me.
Help, please?
Edit: To clarify, see the photos of the box inside the cabinet cubby. This one is mounted to a center rail, but is pretty wobbly. The other pic is the rail I bought.
I am building a custom pantry, what i want to do is put in a shelf all the way at the bottom that will have something thats about 20lbs on it. i want to be able to slide it in and out whenever i need. the space that this is going is about 34" side so i wont be able to attach it to a side on one of hte sides.
are there drawer slides that attach to the bottom of the shelf and then attach to the bottom of the cabinet and nothing on the sides?
This is my first time installing Blum under mount drawer slides and I can’t get them to close properly. The fronts are protruding 3/8 of an inch in front of the cabinet, but the back aren’t even all the way seated in the back. I have the 22” Movento slides, and my drawer is 21 3/8”. What am I doing wrong?
