A bit of backstory. The theme of my university's yearbook is "Maps." We are adding the map coordinates onto the book cover, but are unsure of what the difference between the above three types of coordinates are. Any help is really appreciated! Thank you!

There are 360 degrees in a circle, like the equatorial circle around the Earth. There are 60 minutes in a degree and 60 seconds in a minute. OTOH, if the minutes are viewed as a decimal quantity, there are 60.000000 (...) minutes in a degree and seconds aren't used. For example, 75 degrees, 30 minutes, 30 seconds would be expressed as 75 degrees, 30.5 minutes (seconds not mentioned). Further, if the degrees are viewed as having decimal fractions, then what would have been 30 minutes would instead be 0.5 degrees. Thus, there are 360.000000 (...) degrees in a circle.

It's just a notational thing, you can easily convert between the three The Washington monument is located at 38° 53′ 22.09″ N, 77° 2′ 6.93″ W (degrees minutes second notation) or 38.889469, -77.035258 (decimal degrees notation). Both contain the same information just formatted a bit differently. You can convert the decimal degrees into minutes and seconds by multiplying the decimal part by 60 to get minutes then the remaining decimal by 60 to get seconds In the digital age I find decimal degrees to be best, they're significantly easier to punch into map apps/sites
