The Secretary of State Flagship Center in the loop doesn’t require appointments. They might have limited services compared to a full DMV, but they definitely do drivers licenses. I was in and out in about half an hour with no appointment last month renewing mine. More on reddit.com

I made an appointment online, showed up just when they opened, stood in the appointment line for 20 min while the non appointment line was giving people numbers. Then I got my number, sat down and waited for about 20 min until I got called. Go early and wait or go Thursday afternoon and wait. Regardless, you're going to wait. More on reddit.com

I need a real id drivers licence renewed. I occasionally have to fly and rent a car for work but I do not own a car and I am dependent on transit. I was hoping to schedule an appointment in the city. I looked at the website after work and everything is booked up. Why is it like this. Downstate, hundreds of miles away there are tons of appointments but it's impossible to get one her?

Out of state transplant that should have gotten an IL DL about a decade ago. Trying to get my license in order now. I know how to make a reservation on the Secretary of State website, and I get on it right at 6:30am when reservations for the day open up. Once I get in the queue, I’ll select an “available” location time, and then it says it’s unable to make the reservation! Lo and behold, that time is no longer available (I assume because someone else got it quicker). This happens for all other times I select, and within a few minutes, all times and all locations in the city are taken. Am I missing a strategy here for getting a reservation? Is there a day of the week that is better? Do I need to drive down to Bloomington? Just a little angry that there’s this catch-22 for a service that we are fined heavily for neglecting, but get put through a rat race lottery for trying to be diligent about it. How do y’all get appointments? UPDATE: I ended up calling the Secretary of State office (the dmv phone numbers listed for each location just hang up on you). The phone auto menu tries to take you to the website, but I kept on, selecting options. Finally got a human being, and she tried to have me make an appointment day of online. After asking for other options she finally let slip that they can schedule an appointment in advance up to 15 days ahead (she sounded like they’re not supposed to say this? So weird). There was one appointment in Deerfield two weeks from now, so I took it. Not loving this anti-customer age we are entering. Good luck everybody!

It took me about a week of trying at 6:30 to get an appointment. The queue starts loading at more like 6:27, so make sure you try to load the page around then. Don’t be picky about times, just know which location you’re going to click on and spam it as fast as you can. As others are saying, the flagship location in the loop doesn’t require appointments for IDs. There’s a downstairs area where you need an appt for car title, etc, but upstairs is just a massive set of 20+ people just processing IDs. It looked very well organized.
