Hi @Digital-SachinS, Welcome to our Adobe Express community!  I'd like to clarify some things about the QR code generated by Adobe Express so that you can make an informed decision according to your requirements. QR Code Expiry- QR codes created in Adobe Express are static and do not expire. As long as the original URL or link remains active, the QR code will continue to work, making it suitable for printed brochures. Since the Generate QR code is a quick action in Adobe Express, downloading it directly from the quick action window won't get saved in Adobe Express. But if you select 'Open in editor,' the generated QR would be saved under your stuff. You can then organize the QR codes in a folder for record keeping.  Note: Once the QR is generated with the link, it cannot be redirected to a different URL, even if it is saved under 'Your Stuff'.  Also, Adobe Express does not currently offer built-in analytics like scan count, location, or device tracking. However, as a workaround, you can use a trackable link and then generate a QR code for that link in Adobe Express. Let us know if you need more info about Adobe Express QR codes. If you have any feature suggestions, feel free to post them here and directly to our product team.  Hope this helps!  Best!Amitej Answer from Amitej S on community.adobe.com

Hi, the QR-Code Generator does nothing more then the URL you give convert in a picture. There are now other code involved that would suggest any kind f expire date or so. Once you generated that QR you can use it as often as you wish as long as the URL itself is valid after some year. Hope that helps.

QR codes that doesn’t expire

If the URL the code is pointing to doesn’t expire, the code won’t ever either. It’s just a way of encoding data: same idea as a “classic” barcode.

How do I change the URL of an expired dynamic QR code from QRFY without paying a huge annual subscription fee?
Make a proper QR code that’s not using an online service like that and print stickers (probably setting them up on Avery labels and trimming) to cover up the bad QR. More on reddit.com

Static QR codes, like the ones InDesign create, do not expire, as long as the information they contain is still correct. e.g. if it's a QR code that directs someone to a website, if the URL has changed in any way after the code was created, the code would no longer work and would need to be changed. As far as business card vCard QR codes, the ones InDesign created used to be at v2.1 which caused some issues with some smart phones that now require v3 and up, but that has been upgraded in the current version.Free online Static codes should be fine as well, but it depends on how reputable they are. What you are referring to are most likely Dynamic QR codes, which can be much simpler, but are quite different in that they are not hard-coded like Static ones, and are usually a simple redirect to a website/service which then sends it on to the actual destination that's stored in their server; the benefit being one can update the information at any time without having to change the actual QR code so you don't have to reprint business cards, say. Again, if these are obtained from reputable sources/services they should not expire even if that service shuts down (which happens more than you think), but you won't be able to update them any longer so would eventually become useless. Many of the "free" sites may also use a redirect which might direct traffic/info to be used for other purposes, like ad serving/tracking, etc, and probably cannot function if the server end is discontinued for any reason, like if the "free" website shuts down or is abandoned. So it's buyer beware. "free" does have a cost to it in the end.

QR codes usually "expire" when created with dynamic QR code services. These often have limits (like scan counts or time), and may break if the account expires, the target URL is deleted, or the service shuts down. Some use short links (e.g., bit.ly) that can be throttled or disabled. InDesigns codes work "forever" but it's not always an easy thing to keep content the same, espesially if it's clients websites.I like to opt to outside services and talk with the client trhough the QR codes features to avoid possible issues.

Neither InDesign or Express does anything but encode the URL it is given. If you give it a static URL, it will remain static forever. The QR code will never change once generated — note that there is no such thing as a "dynamic QR code" — and only if the destination URL changes will the 'linkage' break. (A common cause is if a special sale or promotion landing page is designated, and then that page is removed.) But unless you are getting your URLs from a hosting, tracking or redirection service, the codes you generate are functionally static. If you are using a shortURL, tracking or redirection service, such as to generate marketing data, those URLs and QR codes will only work as long as that service is set up to accept and redirect the request. The simple solution is not to use such features or services. The slightly less simple solution is to manage those in-house, using your own server-level address redirection, and not pay some third party to do it on a subscription basis that will expire. If you have to build QR codes around such ephemeral/pay-me addresses... you live with codes that will stop working at some point. A bit of editorializing/pro advice: if anyone in a discussion such as you reference is babbling on about 'dynamic QR codes' as some essential technological fact, an unavoidable must-do or requirement... they are a marketing ween from one of the code-selling services and should be taken with a very small grain of salt. It drives me crazy that so many otherwise well-informed people in marketing and design believe that QR codes are some kind of mystical uber-tech that requires these 'midwives' to work. They're not. They are simple barcodes with embedded data, and you can embed any data you like without third-party support. This may help in various ways: http://www.nitrosyncretic.com/DPR/dpr_qrcodes.php

March 29, 2026 - When static QR codes stop working: 1. The URL or file they link to is taken down or removed 2. The content is changed without updating the QR code 3. There is damage or distortion in the printed QR · So the “expiry” is not of the QR code itself, but of the linked destination.
