In part 1 of the musical (and the 2024 movie), I do see the chemistry between Fiyero and Elphaba. I think if circumstances were different, they would've been a great couple.
BUT, it's so weird... how they get together in part 2 of the musical. The song "As Long As You're Mine" is so sensual. Being sensual isn't bad ofc, but that wasn't the foundation of the romance between these characters imo. Elphaba, in her song, "I'm Not That Girl", does mention a "sudden heat", so there's attraction there. However, I really feel like they connected more on an emotional and intellectual level.
Through Elphaba, Fiyero realizes the importance of taking a stand and caring for something, rather than living a carefree and "brainless" life. It's just weird that after Fiyero leaves Glinda, he meets Elphaba and it becomes physical so quickly??? It just feels out of place. And doesn't Elphaba feel at least a little bad that she's with her best friend's "ex"-husband? (Yeah, Glinda basically abandoned her but that doesn't mean Elphaba didn't care about Glinda till the end.)
Idk. The song "As Long As You're Mine" felt like it cheapened the romance between them. It makes me wish Elphaba ran away alone or with Glinda instead. What are your thoughts? Maybe there are some nuances I didn't understand or smth.

I personally always saw the sudden sensuality as somewhat circumstantial? Like they are being chased, there is danger, and those situations usually help set these feelings on fire.

I’ve always thought it touched on the fact that Elphaba was finally WANTED. Not just emotionally, but everyone recognized that she has powers and was intelligent. But here is someone who is physically touching her, intimately, and not put off by her green skin. I think the emotional connection was there, but I feel like she had probably been missing a physical connection with anyone up until that point.

So I get that they end up together in the musical. My question however is does Fiyero remain a scarecrow or does Elphaba manage to change him back. Cause running off leaves a lot of unanswered questions.

As they say in the movie, a spell from the Grimmerie cannot be reversed, he's stuck as a Scarecrow. Yes, running off leaves a lot of open questions, but that's the point. They're running off to start a new life, they don't have the answers to those questions themselves. It's intentionally open-ended.

so ive finally seen wicked on broadway for the first time like 2 weeks ago.
OMG im obsessed. LMAO i knew a few songs prior but seeing the whole play live ive been changed for good. okay ill stop lol
no but yeah, so at the end, Fiyero shows up again as a scarecrow. im a bit confused tho.
was it just a disguise or was he actually turned into an actual scarecrow because of elphaba's spell?

So in WICKED (Book), Fiyero is murdered by the Oz Guards and Elphaba believes he's the Scarecrow that is until he's torn apart. And in WICKED (Musical), Fiyero is tortured by the Oz Guards until he gives away Elphaba's whereabouts and Elphaba casts a spell that transforms him into the Scarecrow.
