Shipping my stuff to myself.
https://www.ups.com/assets/resources/media/en_US/Commercial_Invoice_Guide.pdf Another little tidbit.. “Personal Effects Customers must use an authorized UPS / MBE (Mail Boxes Etc) Store or UPS Customer Center to ship personal effects. The UPS Store, Mail Boxes Etc. or UPS Customer Center will be required to identify personal effect shipments on the shipping label by placing "Personal Effects" in the Reference Field of a UPS "smart" label or in the Special Instructions Field of a UPS waybill. They must also clearly indicate 'Personal Effects' shipment on the Commercial Invoice. Personal Effects are classified as used items (owned for a minimum of 6 months) intended for the consignee's personal use. Any items intended for any other use, such as wholesale or retail sales, business purposes, or for distribution are not considered personal effects and cannot be shipped on this basis. "Personal Effects" must be clearly stated on the invoice and goods description. All of the following documents must be scanned into DIS/SIR and originals on the package: An inventory list with estimated values with the reason for importation (holidays, move, relocation) A confirmation that the goods are older than 6 months and that they are intended for personal use only A photocopy of passport or ID card Any items intended for any other use, such as wholesale or retail sales, business purposes, or for distribution are not considered personal effects and cannot be shipped on this basis. Excisable goods (for example, perfume, alcoholic drinks, tobacco), medicine and perishable food can not be cleared as personal effects. Personal effects shipments are not allowed in combination with Return Services.” Anything being shipped to another country will need a commercial invoice, even personal effects and gifts. commercial invoice?
Well this isn’t on UPS. When you send packages internationally, they need a commercial invoice attached. This is for customs, not because UPS needs it. It basically tells customs “this is what the item is, what it’s made of, who it’s going to, and how much it costs” - its 100% a customs thing, every international package needs one. Countries like to know what’s coming in. You can google “ups commercial invoice” for a blank template, I think the first link should be it. Fill it out and send it to UPS, they should be able to send it to customs on your behalf for them to clear it More on reddit.com

r/UPS on Reddit: Commercial Invoice for Personal Items
May 17, 2023 -

I'm shipping a box of personal items from the USA to Canada because I am staying with someone there for the whole summer and didn't have space to fly with more. The UPS location where I dropped off my package said I didn't need to fill anything out but I later received an email saying I would need to fill out a commercial invoice and attached a blank form for me to fill. It seems fairly straightforward but I have a few questions.

  1. What do I put for the tax field? The tax on the subtotal as it would be to where I am shipping it? Or from where I'm shipping from? Does it have to be taxed if it's not commercial at all? What do I put here?

  2. Shipping. It says "Shipping charged to the receiver" but I paid to ship the box all upfront. Would I just put $0 there?

Any help would be appreciated!

Apologies for the poorly worded title. I moved to the UK from sweden and I had to leave some things behind like my TV, some books and a few cutlery items. I had left them at a friends place and I set up a delivery(3 packages) to pick it up from my friends place in Stockholm and deliver it to me here in the UK.

They picked up the package and now UPS says they require a commercial invoice. What am I supposed to do in this case? I'm not buying anything. It is my stuff.

I have the receipt for the TV with me but the rest of the items are some books and odds and ends. Why is it so difficult for them to just create an easy system for a new user to understand?

Customs is messy, you need documentation for everything, even if it's a line item like "Personal effects, $15". You don't need receipts. Before Brexit, you would have found it a lot easier.

A Guide to Commercial Invoices for Businesses | Parcel2Go
April 11, 2024 - A commercial invoice serves as a legal document that provides evidence of the transaction’s finalized terms and conditions. You can use it to collect payment, and customs will use it to determine the duties, taxes, and fees due during export. If you’re sending a gift or personal items, you’ll need a pro-forma invoice rather than a commercial invoice.

r/UPS on Reddit: How many commercial invoices needed for UPS shipment?
November 16, 2023 -

Recently, I had a shipment delay issue with UPS UK. So, I checked with UPS customer service for the number of commercial invoices needed for shipment. They replied me 3 invoices per carton. They mean: if my single shipment have 10 cartons, I need to print 30 invoices and attached 3pcs on all 10 cartons.

That's totally different to my understanding. In all my previous shipments, I only attached 3 copies on master carton and they were shipped successfully. I even checked with UPS HongKong customer service, they said what I did in previous shipments were correct.

What happened to UPS UK? I checked with two guys there, both of them replied me that they need 30 invoices (in this 10 cartons example). And I did mentioned that I am talking about 10 cartons to 1 address (single shipment).

Anyone have the same issue? Thank you.

r/UPS on Reddit: Missing Commercial Invoice and how to fill/submit it?
December 23, 2023 -

I have a parcel going from UK to US. I put three of the invoices they give you on the box with the label (secured as well as the parcels I’ve sent over the past few years). Now my parcel has no delivery date (was 26th Dec) and says “Clearance Info Required” and that there’s a “Missing Commercial Invoice” (there wasn’t). I haven’t been able to email or call them, but I see the website has an option to add a file to a tracking number.

I’ve downloaded the template from their site but I’m a little confused as to how to fill it in since the one that came with my label was just “where’s it from, and going, and what’s in it?” basically.

What do I input for Tax ID if my missus and I are just doing it as a gift? What’s the Incoterms terms of sales? And what’s the information regarding the importer section?

Can I not just fill in the Me sending it to Her details, package weird her and cost, and submit that?
