Hi,
Looking for a way to get a prepaid visa/mastercard without ties to my identity. Is it possible?
I heard about visa giftcards you can buy at the gas station, is that still a thing?(I'm in EU and never seen those around here)
Also found paywithmoon while searching for a solution, would that work?

You can buy Visa/MasterCard gift cards - but you'd have to register them with a name, phone number and address that matches what sites would demand as part of the payment info - and it had best be your real address because some sites don't do separate delivery addresses.

Nothing reloadable will do that. I believe it violates some money laundering provisions. You can get the single use gift cards at the grocery stores but that's the best you can do.

There are no reloadable prepaid cards in the US that are anonymous - the US has laws requiring financial institutions to "know your customer" to prevent money-laundering and other criminal activity. There are cards that do not require a SSN, if your issue is that you aren't a citizen and only have an ITIN - American Express offers two cards that don't require an SSN.

So prepaid gift cards do not need your social or ID. Prepaid DEBIT cards (NetSpend, Greenddot, bluebird) do require that info. The reason you would get a debit card instead of a gift card is to be able to get direct deposit on it, have the funds FDIC insured, make cash withdrawal, etc. Cards like Greendot are meant to replace a checking account- not just be a gift card. Fees are high though. If you JUST need to shop online and don’t need cash withdrawal / checking account like services then a normal prepaid GIFT card (like vanilla visa) is fine. The card package will specify if it’s a GIFT card or DEBIT card. Green dot and those cards also have fine print that says “subject to identity verification” so also look for that. Edit: I know another commenter said they aren’t likely to be useable online but have successfully used vanilla visa online. You do need to call them and set up a billing zip code though but no name/social/whatever is taken.
