I've used the behr premium plus and the behr marquee, both times two coats over a fresh coat of white primer. The premium plus walls still have tiny specks all over where you can see the white underneath, and both are quite bold colors. You can't tell unless you inspect it close up. The Marquee room looks absolutely fantastic, nice and smooth/even finish and coverage. I wouldn't believe a can that said "one coat only" any more than I would believe "paint and primer in one", which is to say, not at all. Fwiw I've also been very happy with the Benjamin Moore paints, I would probably only buy BM or behr marquee in the future - diy painting is so much cheaper compared to hiring it out, is easy to justify $15 more per gallon to upgrade from mid range to top tier paint, and three difference is very apparent not only in how the finished product looks, but how easy the paint is to work with. Negotiate a lower price at your local benjamin moore reseller. This was the best thing I ever did. It's my favorite paint, your mileage may vary. SW is good stuff too, I'm not a fan of anything sold at the big box stores.

Hello!
I have some questions about paint. I recently bought my first home and need to do some painting. Normally I do tons of research before buying anything, but in the stress of it all I bought a can of Behr Marquee from Home Depot by being suckered in by the one coat guarantee. My first question is has anyone used the Marquee, and do you think its worth the money? Or am I better off buying the Behr premium plus and just doing two coats as is traditional?
Additionally, does anyone have any thoughts on Valspar from Lowe's vs Behr? I think I personally like Behr better, but this is based on minimal experience. My only problem is I really like the color we picked out, but is this matchable across all brands?
IMPORTANT: I am looking for solid homeowner/DIY advice. I don't need armchair or real pro painters telling me how they would NEVER use any of the GARBAGE at the hardware stores and how you would only ever use SW blah blah blah...I get it...and I'm sure at $70-$100 per gallon Sherwin Williams is very good paint, but I don't have the budget for that, so I will make do with the "garbage" paint that notably works just fine for someone doing it themselves and isn't a professional who won't even notice the difference.
UPDATE: I got a lot of feedback on this! I think I've decided to go with the SW Superpaint that's currently on sale. I'll look out for sales in the future as well, but if not it seems the Behr Premium Plus is a decent product in a pinch. Thanks everyone!

I’ve used Valspar in the past. The cheapest paints in the line ARE garbage. The upper tier stuff is decent. In case it helps. Sherwin Williams routinely has 40% off sales. Usually once a month (for a week). It brings the price of a bucket of their ‘Superpaint’ in line with the upper level Valspar products. Oh, and yes. All colors can be produced by all retailers.
