r/Domains on Reddit: Godaddy wants to charge me 500USD+ for my yearly domain renewal. Is this normal?
October 31, 2023 -
Hi! I purchased a domain through godaddy with the .studio TLD last december. It was around 1000USD and we've been using it since without any problems. However, we have to renew it now after a year and they are trying to charge us 500USD+ for ONE YEAR of renewal. Is this normal? All registrars display renewal fees of below 30USD/year for .studio TLDs. Am I being scammed? This doesn't sound right. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
EDIT: If this is standard for Godaddy, is there any way I can avoid paying such a high price? Maybe transfer the domain to another registrar?

What is the renewal price on .com domains with Discount Domain Club?
Even with the discount domain club (which only makes sense if you have a hundred plus names registered), you can do better than GD prices. Just transfer your names elsewhere (spaceship or dynadot for example). You'll save money this year, save on the GdC annual fee, and renewal next year will be about $10 or less. More on reddit.com
