Yesteday I picked up a Nissedal mirror (the slim 15×60 one) with the hopes of mounting it to my closet door (vertically). I rent and our doors are practically made of cardboard, so even if I wanted to I don't think I'd be able to mount it the traditional way. I'm looking for suggestions on how to best accomplish this, I was thinking heavy-duty command strips with some of their frame hooks, but I'm not sure this is the best way to do it.

What type of closet doors? If they are standard side-hinged doors and there's at least a couple millimeters of space between the door and frame, you can get over-the-door coathooks and suspend it from those. If you're concerned this will scratch the paint, you can use ratcheting straps wrapped around the door vertically. However, if it's a bi-fold door, it may not actually be strong enough to handle the weight of a mirror without being pulled out of the track.

I have installed lightweight mirrors like the Nissedal on "hollow core" doors common in apartments and many homes (closet doors especially seem to be usually hollow core). There are screw-anchor sets you can buy that will screw into that door. An alternative would be to get a piece of 3/4-inch plywood, cut to the width of the mirror, but to the height of the door. The outer edges of hollow core doors have a more stable (usually solid wood) frame. Screw the plywood into the door at the top edge and bottom edge. Now attach the mirror to the door. Usually hole-fixing material will invisibly repair those holes once you are ready to move to a new place. If you paint or seal the plywood, then you could use 3M strips on the bottom back edge of the mirror to keep it from swinging out when you open/close the closet door. I have found the strips do not adhere well to raw wood/plywood.

Personally, I would never trust glue to hang something that has weight to it, especially something like glass. I know it doesn't give you the same "clean" floating look, but I would get some mirror hanger clips (they have many different types) that screw into the wall. If you don't want to do that, scrape, scuff, and reglue both sides.

April 17, 2023 - Strike a horizontal level line in pencil for the top and bottom sets of holes, measure center to center and transfer those endpoints to the top line centered on where you want the mirror. Spirit level and straight edge can help you telegraph the same marks plumb to the lower line. I would use small plastic helical anchors in the drywall at the mount points and #4 flat head Phillips screws. Bonus points for a stud sensor to help miss the framing in the wall. IKEA is metric, so not much sense trying to hit 16" on center...
