I have an alpaca wool insert. I also love big fluffy blankets, but was struggling with temperature regulation and couldn't get down because of allergies. I spent a LOT of time searching on here. I was originally resistant to the alternatives to down/down alternative (silk, wool), but i freaking LOVE the alpaca wool insert. It is SO breathable. I didn't realize what I was missing. I couldn't go back to synthetic fibers because they just trap heat like crazy. It is definitely not as fluffy as down, but it is much fluffier than silk, it has nice weight, and i have layered it with nice cotton blankets. Someone else mentioned linen covers - I also have this on the insert, and think it helps quite a bit with breathability also. More on reddit.com

the polyester filling in down alternative comforters is basically the same no matter who you buy from. so if you already have the brooklinen DA insert and know you don't like it, you should probably think about getting a different material for the replacement. the only difference between yours and for instance the boll and branch one is just going to be the cotton shell More on reddit.com

As the title says, has anyone bought a down alternative/synthetic down comforter that is not garbage after a year?
Back in August I bought the Pottery Barn Hydrocool down alternative duvet insert.
I am currently a college student and thus funds are limited, however I am a chronic insomniac and have a lot of sleep issues, so a good comforter was something I was willing to splurge on. It was definitely not the most expensive option on the market, but for $150, I didn’t expect it to completely fall apart within 9 months. By the time I moved out of my dorm in May, the filling had bunched up into pockets, leaving parts of the comforter completely flat.
I’m now going back to school for my sophomore year and would like to buy a comforter/duvet insert that will last until I graduate. I have a down comforter at home and it’s my favorite thing, but it requires too much upkeep for college. Wirecutter, The Strategist, etc. all love the Brooklinen, Buffy, Parachute, Company Store, LL Bean, etc. but I keep seeing reviews on the stores’ sites themselves and on reddit that they all have this issue.
So, if anyone has bought an down alternative comforter in the past three years—from one of the brands listed above or anywhere else—that is still relatively intact, tell me!!

I feel your pain. Ours did that constantly. We picked up one in Sweden at a handmade store about 4 years ago that doesn’t bunch up at all. It doesn’t have a brand name on it BUT, I did figure out what keeps it from doing that. It’s the size of the baffle box. If your baffle boxes are large, like 8x8” or larger, they get clumpy and migrate. Ours has smaller baffle boxes that are about 4x4” and sewn through. They’re small enough where the fill has no where to go but to stay in place. Edit: forgot to mention, if you don’t want to buy a new duvet, you can “double duvet.” Get a lightweight duvet fill and layer inside the duvet cover on top of your lumpy one. Some people will even triple duvet fill. You won’t be extra hot if you get the right breathable material for your 2nd duvet.

My title probably covered it all. No matter how low I turn my AC, I wake up sweating. My current comforter and duvet aren't great and I think both have polyester.
I'm an animal lover and can't support down or feather but I really miss the super plush company store down comforters my best friend had when we were kids. Basically I'd like it as plush as possible but not hot.
Does anyone have something like this that they can recommend?

I have one called downcool off of Amazon it's really lightweight. If I put a duvet cover on it, it's too warm and have to sleep with a/c at 68. I gave up and just use it without a duvet cover and can sleep comfortably at 70-71. Edit: Soo why are people downvoting for me for sharing what bedding I use 😑
