Hey guys,
So a little background, between 2015-2017 I’d (stupidly) switched to iPhone and then back to Android again. After much hassle I managed to merge all of the Whatsapp chats, images, and videos together. All my photos and videos were always available to view in chat on Whatsapp until recently where I noticed the app only keeps a couple of years worth of photos. Initially I thought I’d lost all these photos until I got a new phone a couple of weeks ago and reinstalled Whatsapp. It downloaded the whole 8 years worth of images again and I was overjoyed, but anything over 2-ish years has once again disappeared.
Now, I want to download the images and videos from Google Drive onto PC so I have it in one place outside of Whatsapp. I tried looking on the Google Drive website and it’s not allowing me to download the backup. Does anyone know how to do this? I've looked online and found a few applications which does this, but they seem sketchy. I’d preferably like to not reinstall Whatsapp on my phone and mess around with it.
TL:DR – I’ve got 8 years worth of images and videos on Google drive backup. Whatsapp only keeps around 2 years worth of backups on my phone. I want to download it all off Google drive so I have it on my PC.
Thanks

I'm helping my wife transfer to a new smartphone and the transition is not going smoothly for WhatsApp.
Before switching phones we backed up her WhatsApp account to her Google Drive once we installed WhatsApp in the new phone it prompted us to log in which we did but the conversations are all several days behind. The answer is to use the backup we did to Google Drive but it's not giving us that option. According to instructions we need to uninstall the app and reinstall to be given the prompt for restoring a backup but we don't get that prompt. It simply reopens the app as if nothing happened once the reinstall is done.
How can I clear the WhatsApp cache or restore from the backup from Google Drive so we can recover her most up to date conversations?
