r/minipainting on Reddit: Which Dremel bit for sanding plastic
December 12, 2024 -

Hey r/minipainting

I know this is more a mini-building question.

But I have a lot of stuff to sand (base borders, terrain pieces, etc.) and while sanding with 800 Grit Sandpaper gives good results it's a long process and really tiresome.

So i thought I might dry using my dremel tool. But whatever speed I set it to its always melting the plastic and I get hot plastic droplets everywhere (including on the skin, which really hurts :D)

Maybe I am using the wrong bit for the dremel. I tried different sanding bits (only the official Dremel ones tho). Nothing seemed to work. Whether I used the fine sanding Bit, Coarse Sanding Bit, High Speed, Low Speed. I always get the same result -> Molten plastic.

Is there a trick to it?
A special bit I need?
Or is it futile?
