Hello all!
Awhile back, I bought a very nice dresser that had one malfunctioning drawer (it was heavily discounted because of that). I finally want to set aside a little time and fix the drawer, but am not quite sure where to start. I cannot lift the drawer off of the track like normal drawers. The problem is that the rear of the drawer seems to have become dislodged from the track, and it's very wobbly as a result. Please see the photo album and explanation video below:

The drawer hardware/track is on the bottom of the drawer. There is no way for me to access the back of the unit. It's a solid wood panel. Any thoughts or advice? Apologies for the poor photo/video – please let me know if I can describe anything else, or post additional photos.

Ok, lets start with the basics. It's better designed than the cheap crap i fixed not long ago. Typically the sliders are affixed to a piece of wood in the rear of the cabinet, and also to a piece of wood in the front. Look at this pic. https://goo.gl/images/dsGvaA I suspect your issue is that either A. The wood beam in the rear of the cabinet that holds the drawer slides in place and keeps the drawer from pivoting has broken or B. One of the 2 drawer slides or the center guide has come off. Releasing the drawers is usually a matter of either A. Sliding the drawer like 85% of the way open and giving a quick yank forward or B. Finding the latch (typically at the rear of the center slide) that keeps the drawer from coming out with regular use. Start first by removing the drawer.

pull out one of the working drawers and figure out how the drawer slide disconnects from the rail. if that doesn't work, unscrew that black screw and see if you can pry the drawer from the slide (assuming there is another screw towards the back). you might strip out the screw but you can fix that with some toothpicks and glue.

How to repair wooden drawer slides on vintage dresser
The pieces on the insides of the dresser need to be replaced. If you have or know someone with a table saw, they are pretty easy to fabricate. Or take a sample to a woodshop, i can't imagine they would charge too much. Then you would remove the old and install the new pieces.
If the edges of the drawers are worn, sometimes I'll get 1/4" square rods from the hardware store, cut to size, glue and nail it to the worn bottom edges and use a sander or something to get it to the right shape.

August 17, 2017How to fix this broken drawer?
You could try glueing it and clamping it tight while glue dries but I’d be inclined to add some metal angle brackets too. Not necessarily pretty but better than how it is now. More on reddit.com

We've had several older dressers with this problem. You need to remove the drawer and see how it was put together. The type we've had, had a piece of wood in the center of the opening under the drawer. The wood had two channels cut into it that ran parallel on each side down the length. Under the drawer there was a piece of metal or plastic the slipped into the grooves. As time had passed the channel got wider or broke off. That thin strip of wood was designed to bear the weight of the whole drawer when it was pulled out. It can be replaced by new gliders (measure how much space there will be) more modern types. Or another piece of wood to replace the broken one and be sure to add some stops to prevent this 'new' drawer from being pulled out too far.

Is it possible that the center piece that the draw groove on bottom is too small? That's my problem I have no idea how or why but it was a hand me down from a friend and I just haven't bothered with it. Check and see that can be fixed simply by taking measurement and having it cut by store for a small price then just remove the one there mark screw or nail marks and replace with proper piece of wood.
