The interviews revealed three gender patterns: (a) ten women in the current study indicated egalitarian gender role division; (b) six women indicted reversal of gender roles in their home, and (c) eight women described a traditional role division, which required them to sacrifice their career in favor of the family. December 2, 2022 - Like the rest of Arab society, the Druze community in Israel has undergone significant changes since the establishment of the State. One of the most prominent of these is the substantial rise in the number of educated women. Yet despite modernization and their high levels of education and entrance into the job market, Druze women have struggled to play a leading role in politics.

We incorporate the process of women’s relationship with prohibitive mechanisms of gendered space and men’s experience of masculinist subjectification into an existing term: the spatialization of everyday life. Second, we propose that the disparity of publication by country relates to the concept of “Druze particularism” while emphasizing their difference vis-à-vis Islamic religion and Arab culture.

This study investigates the status of the Druze women in Israel, focusing on the effects of the frequent interactions between the Druze and the more permissive Jewish-Western society.
