What are the landmark choices made by the characters that reveal their very essence?
Below are a few from Book One. But there must be loads from across the saga. Can you suggest other key choices that give a clear view of the books' heroes and villains?
Harry: rejects the privileged, prejudiced Malfoy. Harry chooses to judge people on merit.* Likewise in the final books he turns down the friend request of Rufus Scrimgeour, Minister for Magic.
Hermione: lies to the teachers about the incident with the Troll. The truth would do fine, but she wants to protect her new friends from the teachers' wrath.
Ron: sacrifices himself on the chessboard. He gives his team the ultimate assist. He is the best friend.
Neville: attempts to stop the Trio from getting in more trouble. The odds aren't in his favour but he digs for bravery and shows integrity.
Hagrid: brings a birthday cake.
What other moments show who these and other characters truly are?
*Harry tells Malfoy, "I can tell who the wrong sort are for myself, thanks." He is mistaken: he overlooks Quirrell, thinks Draco opened the Chamber of Secrets, ignores Ron’s evil rat despite the bleating Sneakoscope, falls for the MoodyCrouch's schemes, and for seven years believes Snape, who is committed to his protection, is a villain. Harry starts to recognise the wrong sort in OotP – hint: they try to get him expelled from Hogwarts.

Is this quote only in the fourth movie or also in the book? I'm including the quote in an ethics paper and need to know whether or not to cite the movie or book. Thanks!
“Music, A magic beyond anything we do here.” Something about it just sticks with me.
And bonus (who Dumbledore meant? Riddle or Grindelwald.. And how
Which Albus Dumbledore quote/line from the books that WASN’T included in the films would you want to see most in the upcoming TV series?
Half-Blood Prince has so many great moments that the movie left out. My personal favourite being:
“I am not worried, Harry,” said Dumbledore, his voice a little stronger despite the freezing water. “I am with you.”
Mine is "it is our choices that show who we truly are, far more than our abilitys." I think it is really true
-
It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.
2.People find it far easier to forgive others for being wrong than being right.
3.The truth: It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with caution.
4.To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.
5.It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.
6.We must all face the choice between what is right, and what is easy.
7.You think the dead we loved truly ever leave us? You think we don't recall them more clearly in times of great trouble?
8.Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living and above all, those who live without love.
9.Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.
10.Understanding is the first step to acceptance, and only with acceptance can there be recovery.
Mine is: “It is not our abilities that show us who we are. It is our choices.” - Albus Dumbledore, Chamber of Secrets
So my absolute favorite Dumbledore moment comes in OOTP. After Harry gets caught leading a DA meeting Dumbledore takes the downfall for it. Fudge gleefully calls for him to be arrested. I’ll paraphrase some but the conversation went as follows:
Albus: “Ah I thought we might hit this little snag.”
Fudge: “I see no snag here Dumbledore!”
Albus: “ you seem to be laboring under the delusion that I am…what is the phrase? Come quietly? You see I have no intention of of going to Azkaban. Oh I could break out of course but honestly it just seems like a complete waste of time and I can think of a whole host of things I’d rather be doing.”
He the proceeds to absolutely demolish all of them single handedly. This moment perfectly captured Dumbledore to me. Pleasantly confident and completely unworried with the situation. It was like he was merely discussing the weather. One of my favorite characters ever. What’s your favorite Dumbledore moment?
