16 hours ago - It is the first of a two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel by Frank Herbert, and the first installment of Villeneuve's Dune film trilogy. The cast includes Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, ...
Good choices, I approve of about half of em. But I think Fassbender might make a better Leto than Duncan. I would want a younger Duncan (some people have been throwing Oscar Isaac out as a suggestion, which I like). I do like Michael Shannon though. More on reddit.com

Analysis of Dune actors
Paul Atreides - Timothee Chalamet. Really portrayed the inner turmoil and quiet turbulence of Paul far better than the past two actors. Even just looking at his eyes, you could tell he was troubled and conflicted with himself. MacLachlan looked like a soft puppy who wouldn't hurt a fly, he was made to be a 100% goody good from start to finish. Alec Numan looked in his 30s and was playing a spoiled teenager, it didn't work for me at all. Lady Jessica - Rebecca Ferguson. No further comment. Duke Leto - Oscar Isaac. I was able to easily separate him from his Star Wars persona because I've seen him in plenty of other movies and he's easily one of the best and most versatile actors working today. The man just oozes warmth and charisma. He epitomized the whole "good and honourable but doomed man". Prochnow was good too but was missing something. A thumper had more personality than William Hurt in the miniseries. Gurney Halleck - Josh Brolin. Man looks nothing like the book description but still played a more compelling character than the accountant they got to play Gurney for the miniseries. Didn't care for Patrick Stewart at all. Baron Harkonnen - Stellan Skarsgard. Another deviation from the book by cutting out all of his speeches but I actually preferred that they portrayed him as a man of a few words. Helps to keep the aura mystery about him. Ian McNeice is the most accurate to the book but on screen he looked like the cartoon villain that twirls his moustache while scheming. 2021 Baron is the perfect example of "sometimes less is more". 84 Baron is a crime against cinema. Rabban - Dave Bautista. Same reason why I chose Skarsgard as the Baron. Thufir Hawat - Stephen McKinley Henderson. Felt more like a useful asset to House Atreides than the last two. He had great chemistry with Oscar Isaac even with very minimal screentime. Chani - Zendaya. Her short scene during the duel was exactly how I imagined her in the books. Doesn't say much but always cautious and attentive of her surroundings. Kinda like a cat. For all the hate Zendaya gets for her acting skills, her portrayal was actually the most book-accurate to me, only beneath Chalamet as Paul and Bardem as Stilgar. Piter De Vries - David Dastmalchain. Same reasoning behind Baron and Rabban. Liet Kynes - Sharon-Duncan Brewster. Not really the eccentric character I imagined, but she still had that right aura of authority and had a much more tangible role in helping House Atreides against the Emperor. Dr. Yueh - Chang Chen. Obviously most of his character was cut out but he was still a much better actor than the past two and I did still feel sorry for him. Gaius Helen Mohiam - Charlotte Rampling. Other than nostalgia, I really have no idea why people love Sian Phillips in the 84 film so much. She played a generic fantasy witch, not a BG. And her reactions to Alia were truly awful, they were just so comical and was the second worst thing about the whole film just beneath the Baron's portrayal. The bald head doesn't help either. Charlotte Rampling was terrifying and sinister as fuck, even the Baron was apprehensive when speaking to her. The way she scolded Jessica was pretty heavy too, you can see how important the whole breeding program is to the story. When she said "our plans are measured in centuries", I felt a chill down to my bones. That's a real BG right there. Duncan Idaho - Jason Momoa. No further comment. Javier Bardem is more Stilgar than Stilgar. Shadout Mapes - Golda Rosheuvel. The scene where she presented the crysknife to Jessica was gold. Really established how deep the Missionaria Protectiva affected the Fremen. Religious fanatics. Miniseries Mapes was great as well. Linda Hunt played a regular servant, not a Fremen. Jamis - Babs Olusanmokun. No further comment. TL;DR: Dune (2021) is the definite Dune film to me. I could honestly go on without watching the other two adaptations ever again. More on reddit.com

Inspired by these two posts, I went ahead and made a cast list of Denis Villeneuve's upcoming Dune movie for myself. Idris Elba can be much better used than in the role of Duncan Idaho, imo. I'd love your thoughts. Additionally, if I've forgotten anyone (gasp), let me know.
