Brooklinen makes some great sets, but quite a lot are returned cuz of shrinkage or the fabric getting scratchy over time (major ick) For cotton-linen blends, I’d recommend California Design Den or Sijo. Parachute has a nice relaxed look but can be high maintenance and tends to wrinkle heavily. Coyuchi is solid if you want something organic, but their king sizes tend to run a bit snug after a few washes. I’ve seen the most consistent feedback on California Design Den (linking it cuz its a little nicher ig). Its super soft out of the package and holds up well, full shade to brooklinen. All three are reasonably priced and feel higher-end than some of the bigger brand offerings in the same bracket. They also tend to last longer before you see pilling or thread fray. For washing, I usually suggest cold water, gentle detergent, and low tumble dry or hang dry if possible. Avoid fabric softeners or bleach both mess with the finish. If you like a crisper look, toss in a dryer ball or two to soften without chemicals Answer from BluwulfX on reddit.com

I am in the process of changing my bedding, and upgrading from a Queen to King. I went down the rabbit hole and got some sheet, mattress, pillow etc. Gosh, it was a very fun

Now I am trying to find a good duvet cover, do you all have recommendations? Budget is around 200-250, willing to spend a little more if the product is really great.

I got my duvet cover from pottery barn https://www.potterybarn.com/shop/bedding/duvet-covers-shams/ I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives, but at least everything from them seems to be good quality. I went with a 100% cotton one from the winter selection that went on clearance a while back and im pretty happy with it. [edit] they still have it, but not in the color that i bought it in. https://www.potterybarn.com/products/stewart-plaid-duvet-cover-shams-multi/ only white is left but not bad for 80$

June 15, 2025 - I would have a look around Homegoods - they are owned by Marshall’s and are often part of the same store. I just bought some new pillows there. They had plenty of quality duvet covers, some of them on clearance, all of them budget priced and good quality.

r/Bedding on Reddit: Linen Duvet Cover Recommendations?
March 4, 2025 -

Hi all!

I’m going deep down the rabbit hole of upping my bedding game. I’m just now looking for a duvet cover. After researching between Linen vs Cotton, I think I’m siding with linen, but having troubles with a quality brand. Brands I see highly recommended then start deep diving into unravel bad reviews and stories. I’d say I’m looking for a quality cover with around a $300 budget but definitely flexible.

Brands I’ve looked into:

  • The Company Store: heard quality may be worse since accquisition

  • Quince: Heard some of the sheets have had issues with holes early on, but I’m looking for a cover so maybe less of a worry. Also heard about a lot of early shedding

  • Magic Linen: Seemingly good so far but heard they don’t get as soft after washing?

  • Bosker: Not a ton of info I’ve found here

If anyone has tested any of these brands or compared them I’m all ears! Also open to any other brands I haven’t looked into yet, thank you!

I want to buy a duvet cover.

Around Jersey City and NYC or by online shopping, where can I buy an inexpensive one, assuming one without lousy quality? Price is my top priority.

I have the coupons from Kohl's 25%, Sears 10%, Bed Bath and Beyond 20%, Wayfair 10%, Lowe's 10%, Pier1 20%, West Elm 15%, Crate and Barrel 15%, Biglots 20%, AllModern 10%, Hayneedle 10%, Overstock 12%.

I also have heard of Target, Ikea, Macy's, JC Penney, etc nearby.

I have never shopped at most of the stores, and don't know if they sell duvet covers and how their prices are compared to each other.

Thanks.

r/Bedding on Reddit: What type of duvet cover for a down comforter?
January 21, 2025 -

Finally got a down comforter and started using immediately without a cover. It was great. It regulated the temperature and it wasn't too hot or too cold, it was just right! Some of the best sleep I've had in a while.

I wanted to put a cover on so it could be kept clean and fresh. Now it's way too hot. I have to uncover myself in the middle of the night and then I get cold because it's winter and the temp in the house is kept at 67f.

Is there any option for a duvet cover that lets the comforter do it's job and regulate the temperature?

Edit: Thanks all for some great suggestions! Time to send back my sheety amazon purchase and get something nice.

Hi everyone, I currently have a duvet and a duvet cover. The duvet itself doesn’t look very nice which is why I use a duvet cover, but as I really dislike the process of washing the duvet cover and attaching it back to the duvet, I‘m thinking about just going with the duvet itself.

Are duvet covers necessary? Does anyone know of any alternatives, like duvets that are easy to wash and look nice already , making a cover unnecessary?

(Hope this made sense. Apparently there are a ton of words for bedding - with duvet I basically mean the first piece you cover your body with.)

r/Bedding on Reddit: In Need of a New Duvet Cover!!
August 21, 2022 -

I'm looking for a new duvet cover for my down-filled king size duvet insert. My current cover is the softest I've ever felt, but it has a few rips from years of heavy use (college, camping trips etc.).

My top priority is softness that is cost effective. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars but don't want to sacrifice quality either so somewhere around $100-$200 would be ideal. I like solid colors that wash easily and I'm leaning away from linen. There are so many companies with 'great reviews' but it's hard to tell when ordering online. I pull the duvet up to my face when I sleep, so this thing has got to be SOFT :)

Please provide your tried-and-true recommendations. Temperature isn't a huge concern since the insert is down. Thanks!!

At $100-200 you are absolutely sacrificing quality, just so you know. This industry is one where it’s true that you have to spend to get serious quality. However, what you want is a cotton cover with a sateen weave to give you the most softness. Stick to long or extra long staple cotton if you can find it. If it’s woven in Italy or Portugal that’s a good sign as they typically do the best. If it’s constructed in a western country (USA, Canada, Italy etc) that’s good too, though some quality brands still use places like the Philippines so don’t let that be a deciding factor. Frette, Sferra, Matouk, St. Geneve, and Schlossberg make some of the best in the world and they offer products at different price points. All of the brands I mentioned can be purchased for 10-15% discounts on websites like FineLinens.com I also know Bloomingdale’s and Linen supply are having 20-25% off deals and most places price match. I personally use Sferra. IF you want to buy a St. Geneve product, buy from a Canadian retailer like these to save money since their currency is worth less than ours. https://www.tmasc.ca/collections/duvet-covers-bedding-sets-canada All other brands should be purchased from America. The more you spend the nicer it will be. Two lower budget brands that I’ve heard offer decent quality are malouf which offers a Supima collection that’s supposed to be soft, or peacock alley. Hope you find what you’re looking for!

r/Bedding on Reddit: Super light duvet covers?
August 16, 2024 -

We have a lightweight down comforter and we love the way it feels without a duvet cover on it because it feels like you’re sleeping wrapped in a cloud. For hygienic reasons we need to put a duvet cover on it but when we do it feels like it changes the entire feel of the down comforter. Instead of feeling pillowy and light it feels oppressive and heavy. I’m wondering if folks have a recommendation for a super light duvet cover that would retain more of the feel of a down comforter (the pillowy, sleeping in a cloud feeling) without it feeling heavy or oppressive.

TIA!

March 4, 2024 -

Hello! I’m turning 28 this month and am asking for a really comfortable, thick but not too hot, very pufffy, duvet insert. Can be down or down alternative. My entire life, I’ve only ever used comforters! I’ve actually only just learned the difference..

I don’t want to ask for anything too expensive, but I would like something that isn’t comparable to the standard comforters I’m used to. Ideally it would be under $200. Any recommendations? I’d even be okay with buying 2 inexpensive ones, and putting both of them inside the duvet cover, which I’ve seen some people say they do. Any suggestions for somebody who knows nothing about duvets?

r/BuyItForLife on Reddit: Duvet recommendation with no shifting
November 5, 2022 -

Hi All,

Just joined this subreddit because I was looking for a duvet cover and comforter combo that does not shift. Unfortunately, I did not find an answer.

I am looking for a duvet cover/comforter combo that doesn't shift when I'm sleeping. I currently own a LL Bean duvet cover and comforter combo where the comforter inside moves when I'm sleeping. When the comforter moves, it is not aligned with the duvet cover so I'm only covered by the duvet cover and not the comforter. I usually have to reach inside the duvet cover to get the comforter back in the proper position.

It's hard to describe so please let me know if I wasn't clear.

Thanks for any help!

EDIT: Forgot to add that this comforter and duvet cover do tie at the corners. It just sags like crazy in the middle.
