All the time. It's mine, I own it, no one can rotate it out of availability like the streaming services do ALLthe time, and it obviously still works despite not having a Internet connection. More on reddit.com

October 11, 2024Anybody still have their DVD collections?
I spent years converting every DVD I own into a digital file using Handbrake. Legally I’m allowed to make backups of the media I own as long as I keep the actual DVDs. Now those are on a NAS connected to my media center computer and the physical DVDs are in to large boxes in the storage room inside my house More on reddit.com

As a teenager, I was a music junkie. I couldn't go by a record store without going in and looking for new music. Drove my GF's crazy. Eventually got a CD player, and the first one I bought was Tom Petty's Full Moon Fever.
DVD's obviously came a decade later. I had just moved cross country, bought my first DVD player, and the first movie I bought was The Matrix, so I could watch the lobby shootout 10 or 15 times.
Do you remember the first CD's and DVD's you bought? What were they? Do people remember these types of things or am I just weird? 😆

Yes. I have kept all of my physical media collections. I never drank the streaming services koolaid because you don’t own anything that way (I still have and use streaming services but I never used them as a replacement for actually owning things). I also have an external hard drive with an extensive digital collection.

About 15 years ago I sold all of my DVDs at a garage sale. Now I am building a DVD library from garage sales for our camp.
