It really depends on what your expectations are. If I were to pick on one thing about these smart telescopes, it’d be the fact that they don’t polar align. They basically point roughly towards the pole, and then they take short exposures and de-rotate them, and stack them for you. They can’t take say a 30+ second exposure, because they’d suffer from field rotation in the live stacking process. For that reason, I consider these more EAA (electronically assisted astronomy). Is it cool for $500? Yeah as long as you don’t have crazy high expectations. From what I’ve seen I think the ZWO Seastar looks like the better product for the money. I’ll finish by saying this; if you get a used star tracker, any old canon dslr and a decent lens, you’ll be able to take much better photos than you’ll be able to with any of these smart telescopes.
