Dwarf 3 vs. Dwarf Mini: Why the Best Smart Telescope is Actually... Both
December 4, 2025 - Last night, I ran the Dwarf Mini (D-mini) and the Dwarf 3 (D3) side-by-side. To ensure this was a true “apples-to-apples” comparison, I removed as many variables as possible.

Need convincing that a Dwarf is for me...
You’re not wrong to wrestle with this, but framing it as “cheating vs real astronomy” is kind of the wrong fight. A DWARF (or any smart scope) isn’t a replacement for a traditional telescope — it’s a different tool aimed at a different problem: reducing friction. Your Meades already proved the point for you. They didn’t stop being “magical” because they’re bad scopes; they stopped being used because setup, alignment, cables, and patience killed the experience. Nothing about using a sensor instead of an eyepiece makes the photons less real. The light is still coming from the object — the difference is how it’s presented. Visual astronomy gives you immediacy but limited detail. EAA/smart scopes give you detail and accessibility, at the cost of waiting a bit and using a screen. Neither is morally superior. As for the “why not just look at photos online” argument — that’s easy to test yourself. Live view and short stacks look nothing like finished AP images. You’re watching your sky, your conditions, your target improve in real time. That feedback loop is the hook, especially for kids. But whether that feels engaging or boring to you and your daughter is something no Reddit comment can decide. On patience: smart scopes don’t require hour-long waits to see something. You’ll see recognizable objects in seconds to a few minutes. Longer stacks are optional, not mandatory. If your expectation is instant Hubble-level images, you’ll be disappointed. If your expectation is “see stuff quickly without fighting alignment,” they do exactly that. The bigger question isn’t whether a DWARF is cheating — it’s whether you want to observe or you want to tinker. Traditional scopes reward effort. Smart scopes minimize it. Kids (and most adults) usually bounce off friction long before they appreciate the romance of manual setup. Bottom line: don’t let strangers “convince” you. Watch raw-session videos, look at unedited live views, read the limitations as closely as the hype, and decide whether reducing friction is worth trading eyepieces for a screen. If it gets you and your daughter actually using the sky again, that’s not cheating — that’s choosing the right tool. See example images in subsequent comments. The fun is watching and waiting. Best Budget Smart Telescope in 2026 – Seestar (S30, S30 Pro & S50) vs Dwarf 3 and Mini – Wido's AstroForum
February 10, 2026 - Dwarflab takes a completely different approach, using a more versatile silver design. The DWARF Mini is smaller than the S30, and the DWARF 3 has a very distinctive look that honestly reminds me a bit of the Pathfinder rover that landed on Mars back in the nineties.

DWARF mini Smart Telescope Review
February 20, 2026 - The DWARF mini’s deep-sky performance is largely driven by its SONY IMX662 sensor and the built-in filter wheel. Compared to the DWARF 3’s IMX678 sensor, the mini’s IMX662 offers slightly larger pixels and a higher peak quantum efficiency.

Dwarf multicannon - OSRS Wiki
If a player drops the components of the cannon set, they will discover that the items are 1x1 size, despite the cannon being 3x3. The cannon may sometimes shoot through walls. Despite being called a multicannon, it only has one barrel to fire cannonballs. The name comes from the dwarf cannon in RuneScape Classic, which had 8 barrels and would fire in all directions instead of spinning.
