Hello. I am new to Supermicro servers so please bear with me. I just purchased a 1u Xeon system to run pfsense.

When it boots, it gets stuck on DXE--BIOS PCI Bus Enumeration... 92, then eventually loops back only to get stuck here again.

I have already tried removing all peripherals and CMOS battery but no luck. I have a deadline to get this system deployed so any help is much appreciated.

What other hardware do you use? I get this with some m.2 SSDs (with some configurations and also on other boards) they sometimes seem to conflict other things.

Hello, I got 2x SuperServer E300-9D-8CN8TP with X11SDV-8C-TP8F motherboards from my work place. I found some AC adapters that power on the device and now am troubleshooting them. They startup and go to "DXE - BIOS PCI Bus Enumeration" with a code of 92, it stays there and then reboots. I plugged in the ethernet cable to the IPMI port in hopes that I could do something from there. The BMC got the ip 192.168.1.152. If anymore information is needed I will provide it to the best of my abilities. Thank you.

tldr: Does anyone know how I could get passed DXE - BIOS PCI Bus Enumeration Code 92 on a X11SDV-8C-TP8F?

After this part the system will restart. The right label is IPMI, when I go to 192.168.1.152 it asks for a username and password. I put the username as ADMIN and the password as 002590B8FDE9 but that doesn't work. I don't see any other place that lists a password for IPMI. Edit: So I got 32GB DDR4 ECC RAM and with that I was able to boot and get into bios. There are other issues involving code 79 but that will have to be a different issue.

If you've cleared CMOS, try different ram? Could be bad board?

Check the event logs. I have the same board the it gets in a reboot loop when there’s a faulty ram module plugged in.

Got a SP E300-D9-4CN8TP brand new from Newegg.com and it's stuck at booting time with code DXE--BIOS PCI Bus enumeration 92. It reboots after ~10sec at this point. It's doing this with no storage attached and only one RAM module attached. I can't access to the BIOS neither. I have tried all I could imagine including reset CMOS and acceding using IPMI getting same result. Very poor experience for an almost 1K mini server. Idk what I'm missing here.

No storage? I'm using an e300-8d but I've never tried booting it without a drive.

Long story short the iommu setup wasn't idea on my board so I did a bios update to see if it would split things up better and since the update it's just sitting at the boot screen with the dxe--bios pci bus enumeration 94. It's been about an hour now so I know something must be wrong at this point. Also when in the ipmi it still lists the old firmware as being on the board.

Any ideas?

Have you tried resetting CMOS?

Try turning it off. Then upgrade the bios again via IPMI? Sounds like maybe you didn't flash it successfully the first time. You should also not preserve anything when asked during the bios upgrade. Always best to start fresh.

The short answer is "Yes", if the BIOS (which performs initial enumeration) adheres to PCI specification.

According to: "PCI Express System Architecture" R. Budruk, D. Anderson, T. Shanley, ADDISON-WESLEY DEVELOPER´S PRESS, 2003. ISBN: 0-321-15630-7, page 743:

The specification states that the enumeration software must perform a depth-first search, so before proceeding to discover additional functions/ devices on bus 0, it must proceed to search bus 1.

In Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, the PCI device ordering is based on the PCI device enumeration. PCI device enumeration is based on the PCI enumeration algorithm (depth first then breadth) and is constant per system type. Additionally, once the devices are discovered, the module loading process is sequentialized, providing persistent naming of the interfaces.

However, (some versions of?) Linux support a kernel parameter "pci=bfsort" which changes the Linux enumeration algorithm to "breadth first". This will change the order that the Linux kernel loads and initialises PCI devices wrt how BIOS does.

In any case, from boot-to-boot, enumerated lists will still contain detected items in the same order.
