If you are worried about batteries for the v8 you can get them on amazon for like $30 Don't run it on max mode. That is like doing a burnout. It might need a new battery if the previous owner abused max mode. Only use it for high dirt load messes and high traffic walkways. Let the tools do the work. vacuum slower and make more passes or vac every day. Use the right tool for the job. Use your fluffy roller on hard floors and use your motorhead on carpet. If you are having suction issues, some compressed air and new filters will do it good. Answer from No-Manufacturer-2425 on reddit.com

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Dyson V8 Animal + any good?
December 30, 2023 -

Might be a general question but let me expand on it.

I've been watching a lot of vacuum wars and it came down to the budget Larasar option or a secondhand Dyson. I opened up offerup and saw someone selling their Dyson V8 animal plus for $50. They said it works well but the battery is not holding a charge long enough to clean their house. I went for it. It was a bit dirty but I spent an hour and a half taking it apart and cleaning it up. It runs about 6 minutes before it dies. Is it worth getting a new battery? Or should a relist and look for another one? Or go with my budget option. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!

February 2, 2019 - You’d experience this whether you bought a dyson or a 50 dollar cordless Black & Decker. If you want to avoid replacing batteries, you have to use a corded vacuum as of now :( ... My MIL got a v7 animal 2 years ago and I got a v6 about 18 months ago. Both batteries died shortly after 1 year warranty. Do the V8s have longer warranties by default?

r/Costco on Reddit: Anyone else have problems with the Dyson Stick V8 Animal +?
August 10, 2018 -

Bought the Stick V8Animal + on Black Friday 2018, it started making weird motor noises a couple months in, so I returned it and bought another.

To explain the vacuum situation in my house - I’ve got 2 cats, a roomba that runs often, an inhouse vacuum that I use for cleaning the basement - cats kicking litter out of their boxes and a Dyson Animal Ball that sits in the closet because everything else is doing all the work.

I run the stick around the house mostly everyday, sometimes every other for about 15-20 minutes. The thing has started with the motor noises again. We did troubleshooting on the Dyson site, cleaned it up and it worked again for a few days.

I feel like with all the vacuums we have going, I’m not pushing this thing to work extra hard. I love it because it picks up a lot of stuff (as does roomba and the in-house) and it’s super easy to use, making vacuuming seem like less of a task.

Anyone else breaking their sticks? I feel like it’s too expensive to have 2 of them crap out on me in a little over a year.

(I pulled out the Dyson Animal Ball tonight and forgot what a pain it is to push around a heavy vacuum that tied to the wall with a cord.)

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Dyson V8 Absolute vs Dyson V8 Animal vs V10 Motorhead
August 29, 2017 -

Buying one of these refurbished on eBay. V8 Absolute/V10 Motörhead is about the same price, V8 Animal is a little cheaper because it doesn’t come with the soft roller.

i have a tiny apartment (500 sqft). Almost no carpet (one shag floor rug), rest is hardwood.

Which one of these is the best purchase for me? The V8 Animal/V10 Motorhead both come with the direct cleaner, which i hear is okay to use on hardwood. But since my apartment has all hardwood flooring, am i better off with the V8 Absolute?

Price isn’t a huge factor for me, I’m more concerned with which one is the best value based on my apartment.

We currently use a Dyson V8 Animal. It does the job and my wife likes the cordless battery operation and well as the quick and easy emoting of debris. It has served us well for the past 4 years, but I want something that provides a better cleaning result.

June 16, 2022 - The only difference the Animal models have is that they’re usually purple and the included tools differ. They’re the same exact machine otherwise, same durability, same performance. ... I second this. Most model names are actually just down to the tools included in the box with the machine. r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Dyson V8 was worth every penny
December 24, 2024 -

After just using my Dyson stick V8 for the zillionth time, I just have to rave. I'm not sure when I bought it and I'm not sure what I paid, but it is by far the best all-around vacuum I've ever had. The light weight, the ability to switch easily between regular and max. suction speeds, and the flexibility of the head and the various attachments make it very versatile. I use it on wood floors, rugs, and wall-to-wall carpet. The only thing I've ever had to replace are filters. The on-line videos about how to clean the various areas of the vacuum that get clogged up with fine dust are incredibly helpful. With that help, I've been able to keep the vacuum working well for years. I've never posted a Yelp review before and I can hardly believe that I'm doing it because I'm in love with a vacuum cleaner, but there it is. Hopefully, the newer models are as good as this one.

I agree with another comment I read on this subreddit once. “The best vacuum is the one you will enjoy using, suits your needs and meets your satisfactions”. Objectively, there are always better or worse items within their own ranks. Why use a Molotov cocktail when I could use a nuclear warhead? I’ve had Miele, Kirby, and have an older Dyson upright. They’re all great, for their specific use cases. I use my V8 to clean up behind my cat and do quick touch up’s behind the roborock. High dusting, blinds dusting, and vacuuming out the lint trap to my dryer.

EDIT: NO ONE COMMENTED YET BUT PULLED THE TRIGGER ON THE DYSON. FOR $214 AFTER TAX..WHEN EVEN AMAZON SELLING FOR $500...SOUNDS LIKE A SWEER DEAL TO ME!!! THE REFURBISHED HAS A 1 YEAR WARRANTY SO IF IT BREAKS, I;M FF

Consumer ratings scores/charts for cordless stick vacuums HERE

I live in an 800sq ft apartment that is 75% hard wood floor (laminate) and 25% rug/carpet. I have a dog that sheds so picking up pet hair is needed, especially attachment for CAR. (my car is disgusting from trips to park)

Asked parents for help and they sent the consumer reports chart above. CS rated the Tineco S11 the highest for cordless stick vacs and sells at Costco for $350.

But I saw an add for a refurbished Dyson V8 Animal for only $209 sold on Walmart shipped from DYSON..not some spammy 3rd party. So a legit $300 savings for being refurbished and it says "animal". But in reviews online...it says that it's not a soft head and has difficulty picking up on hardwood and most of my apartment is...so that's a major draw back.

So what's best value/product...Dyson, Tinecone, something else? These are my requirements

  • Hardwood laminate floors

  • picking up pet hair

  • good at cleaning pet hair in car (my beautiful BMW is DISGUSTING from our trips to dog park)

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Shark Detect w/ Auto-Empty vs Dyson V8 Animal
September 30, 2024 -

So I was just wondering if anybody knows which one is better or the pros and cons of each.

I picked up at Costco the Shark Detect (HERE) on sale for $380 + tax. The roller head has the bristles and the fins, but not is not covered with the soft bristles like I saw on youtube reviews. Haven't opened it up yet.

I also saw the Dyson V8 in store (HERE) for $450. The motor head seems about the same as the Shark. It has more attachments, but I probably would only end up using 1 or 2 of them.

I've got a combination of hardwood and carpet. But the hardwood I don't usually vacuum.

The price is almost the same. I've already got a corded Dyson V8 ball from a couple of years ago. I thought about getting a Dyson V15 but not sure I would want to spend the money for one unless it is a life changing vacuum. I thought I would check to see if what people think.

Ok, if you've never had a cordless stick vacuum, having one will be game changing for light cleaning. Super convenient and cordless. However, if you are looking to regularly clean your carpets a cordless vacuum does not deep clean carpets the way a corded vacuum will. Between the Dyson V8 and Shark Detect: just return the Shark. Sharks break quickly, they're not repairable, and their warranty excludes most of the vacuum. The Shark Detect also has a triangle in the bin that just collects dust but you cannot clean out. The Dyson V8 is their best balance of price and performance and weight. The much more expensive V15 adds fluff, "lasers", particle sensors, and automatic modes do not make it clean better. The V15 is more expensive and heavier, making it more tiresome to use for longer cleaning or when using it as a handheld. The V15 does have a removable battery but it's a terrible value. Many other cordless vacuums like LG and Samsung come with 2 batteries and charging stand for the price of a V15 which gives you 1 battery and a wall mount. If you are just looking for something easy to use to regularly clean your carpets and you don't have a regular corded vacuum check out the light weight uprights like the Oreck Elevate Command $579 CAD. It uses huge hepa bags and it's just 10 pounds total but you don't have to carry the weight up at the handle.

r/dyson on Reddit: Please help me decide between these two Dyson vacuums at Costco Canada. I am deciding between the Dyson V8 Extra Animal Extra and the V12 Detect Slim

Both of these vacuums are on a discount at Costco. We have 4 cats but it is a big house. We have mostly carpet upstairs and hardwood and tile (with a couple area rugs) downstairs. The price is not important because I will be using a rebate cheque to buy it.

I am undecided but leaning tward the V12. I read that is has an on switch that does not need to be continuously pressed, but the collection bin the the V8 is bigger.

Does anyone have any recommendations or thoughts on these two vacuums?

I’m looking into buying a dyson cordless for my apartment, as we have longhaired ladies and carpet. We also have a hardfloored living room but constantly live with dust and hair everywhere. I’m thinking of getting a v7 or v8 animal, but not sure what the motorhead alternative does in comparison. Do any dyson users here have any opinion? Would like to stick with cordless for convenience reasons.

FWIW, I just brought home a V7 Trigger to use as a primary vac in my very small apartment. A few flat rugs, some tile in the bathroom, and hardwood. For reference, it replaces a 10 year old corded/bagged Dirt Devil upright I bought at Target for $30. I hate the Dyson and plan on returning it. Like you, I figured the switch would help for convenience, but I find myself going over the same spot so many times and ultimately having to wipe it with a microfiber to grab all the dust and hair that the Dirt Devil would get in 1 swipe. The charge lasts me about 20 minutes on regular, 5 on Max, so I can't be as thorough as I normally would want to be. Additionally the dust removal system isn't as great as it's cut out to be- there's a divot in the bottom of the bin that collects grime even after shaking it out, and I noticed the plastic hinge had a hairline crack out of the box that's proceeded to get worse from the bottom flying open to eject the dust. If you feel it can meet your needs for suction and runtime, I would definitely recommend one of the models with the HEPA filter, as I've noticed mine spits back fine dust from floors and shelves. I'll probably end up going with another cheap corded model with an electric brush to meet my needs until my lease is up. The boyfriend and I went in on a Miele canister, but that lives at his place for now. If I was you, I would consider a Miele C1 or Swing if the idea of cords and bags don't totally put you off. Otherwise there's some cheaper stick vacs from Shark and Hoover that could meet your needs for less.
