Hello, we just got our Dyson Ball Animal 2 today. We have tried to vacuum our carpet with the bottom brush for 1 minute and the sound it was making changed, so we turned it off to see if something got stuck. We checked everything, nothing was clogged.
Right now, if we try to use the hose, the vacuum overheats and turns off after a minute or so, then it won't turn on again for some time. The bottom brush works fine, it turns on even if the hose won't and it doesn't overheat. However, while the brush rotates, it doesn't suction. Basically, the bristles sweep the dust in then spits it out.
If you have dealt with this item before, do you know how we can get the vacuum to function even when there is no clogging anywhere? We have tried every solution we've found on Youtube, but nothing is working :( Has anyone else encountered this issue with the Ball 2? Thank you!

There is a thermal breaker on the motor that shuts the motor off if it gets up to a certain temperature. I don't know that I've ever seen one fail before, so my presumption is that there still is a clog somewhere.

If there is noticeably change in sound, check the following: Check pre' motor filter, is there a thick cake of dust on the filter? Try to rotate brush bar to see if it is hard to rotate (I doubt this since it still shut-off when using in hose-mode) Check post' motor filter, could try to remove this for a check to see if it still shutdown from overheat. DO NOT REMOVE THIS PERMANENTLY, as this is to filter dust from motor. Empty cyclone and check with lights to see any holes blocked.

I agree with the reviewer who called Dyson out about the Animal 2 having too much suction for normal carpets. I have hardwood floors and LARGE area rugs. My carpets are not shag, nor are they considered "deep pile." However, the vacuum is almost impossible to push. On a previous Dyson I was advised to either drill holes to allow more air into the height leveler or to add washers to increase the distance between the brush roller/suction tube and the carpet. Both would let more air in, reducing the suction. I also noticed that one person posted the suggestion that one remove the rubber portion of the height adjustment bar altogether. Tomorrow I will be on the phone with Dyson. It is ridiculous to spend this much on a vacuum cleaner that doesn't work.I read reviews but several people said that they worked fine on shag and deep pile carpeting. Hey everyone! I was hoping maybe somebody could help me. I was gifted a Dyson Ball Animal 2 vacuum and I really want to love it. However it doesn’t seem like it does a very good job vacuuming hard floors and when I use the hose, there’s not hardly any suction. Like it doesn’t want to pick up a piece of dog kibble off the floor with the hose which doesn’t seem right to me. Am I doing something wrong? Is this purely operator error or is the vacuum just not all that it’s cracked up to be? Can somebody please help? Thank you so much!

If used, it may be clogged. Whenever I feel like my suction is lacking I take the hose apart into 2 pieces and disconnect it from the body of the machine. If I can’t see through the hose from one end to the other I know it’s clogged there. There’s a little plastic cover you’ll see when you disconnect the hose. You should be able to stick your fingers in there to see if anything is stuck. I also just replaced all my filters on my machine. I buy them from Dysons website. I’ve done the Amazon ones and they definitely aren’t as good. There’s a bunch of trouble shooting videos on YouTube that I have found helpful over the years. I have an older 2018 model and a brand new one from 2023. The older one definitely does a better job at picking things up with the brush head but I would say the suction between both is the same.
