Dyson Big Ball Animal+ Canister Vacuum - is this a good deal? How would it rate for a house with two dogs, a toddler, and 80% Hardwood floors/tile 20% carpet? Other recommendations?
I've had the Cinetic Big Ball Animal for a few years and have been very happy with it. The Cinetic system seems to work well, and taking the machine apart showed no dirt on the HEPA filters after several years of heavy use. Build quality is decent, and I have not broken any parts of it yet, including when it fell down a staircase. I highly recommend replacing the floor tool with a Wessel Werk floor tool as per u/performancereviews video on the subject. As it works much better than the floor tool Dyson gives you. The air-powered brush works quite well on short pile, and area rugs, but I wouldn't suggest using this machine to clean large amounts of deep carpet. More on reddit.com

Just had our Hoover bagless go south after six years and ready for an upgrade - found this Dyson for $299, but not sure if it's worth the money or if I should spend my money elsewhere. Grateful for any insight, thanks!

As long as it's not a Cinetic Big Ball. They are okay on carpets as they have air driven turbo brushes for the floor. If you have any type of thick or plush carpet it's not going to deep clean them very well. I say nay to the Cinetic as a lot of videos show them with clogged HEPA filters and those filters are not cheap when bought from Dyson, though the cinetic system may work better on the canisters since the air exits out of the top instead of the bottom of the machine. They have great customer service and a 5 year parts and labor warranty and will often just send you free stuff as a courtesy if you run into an issue.
