The biggest difference is the Cinetic doesn't have a pre-motor filter to wash, while the Animal 2 does. Any performance difference between the two are negligible. I'd just get the cheaper Animal 2. They are both HEPA vacuums and have minimal dust emissions. Filtration on a Dyson are comparable to Sebo, Riccar, Miele; it only becomes an issue when emptying (dust cloud), so be aware of that and empty outside or wrap a trash bag around the bin while emptying to contain the dust cloud. r/dyson on Reddit: Cinetic Big Ball vs non Cinetic ?
October 27, 2019 -

When you took a look at Dyson canister vacuum cleaners, they come in two flavors :

The classic ones, and the ones called "Cinetic". AFAIK the main difference between the two is that the later one does not need regular cleaning of the air filter (and eventually to buy a new air filter when it is too old/dirty)

There is a usually a 50-100 EUR price difference between the models (eg : "Multifloor" 2 vs "Cinetic Multifloor 2"). They came with exact same accessories. Is it worth to pay the extra to get the Cinetic version ?

Is there other things to consider ? (eg : they are more or less noisy, reliable etc...)

I really hesitate between the two models.

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Dyson Animal 2 or Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal + Allergy for $200 difference?
May 14, 2017 -

I will be getting a new vacuum this Black Friday. Best Buy has the Dyson Animal 2 for $300 and also has the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal + Allergy for $500. I will be owning a dog within the next 6 months I would presume. Most of my house is carpet except the kitchen area and bathrooms, which are vinyl flooring I believe. I don't have any allergies, but my girlfriend is allergic to pets (though usually fine with medicine). I'm leaning heavily towards the Animal 2 just because it's hard for me to justify spending $500 on a vacuum.

If you could let me know which is the best choice in my situation, and give a brief reasoning, that would be greatly appreciated. I've never used anything better than $50-100 vacuums before.

Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal Allergy review: Dyson steps closer to maintenance-free vacuuming with its filterless Cinetic - CNET
Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal Allergy
Dyson reinvents the wheel with the Cinetic series, and though the filterless approach works, it doesn't add enough practical convenience to justify the price jump over similarly capable competition. The Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal Allergy vacuum never loses suction. Dyson, along with just about every other major vacuuming manufacturer, has made this claim repeatedly in the past. And in the past, it's meant that the vacuum's filter was designed to last through a sucking up a cannister or two of dust without getting clogged enough to slow down performance. Now, since the Cinetic series has do

so i am just curious what is so special about my 6 year old vacuum that have been replaced and repaired once. "Motor blown, replaced motor filters and brush bar motor housing due to damage." according to dyson repair center.

why does it have lower air watts compared to the canister ones if both of them are considered "cinetic"?? mine is 136 and the canister version is 270. is it because of the motor size??

i am waiting for the day this dyson breaks so i can get the newest version before the warranty expires. the only thing i will miss will be the large dustbin.

also 0 response from dyson sub reddit. surprise surprise

I don't like Air Watts as a rating because it's fuzzy math. It involves power efficiency so a lower powered vacuum with less air flow could get the same Air Watt number as a more powerful vacuum that uses more electricity. I'm not a Dyson expert so I don't know the exact motor specifications but Dyson upright vacuums have a electric powered brushroll which adds to the total power used while Dyson canister vacuums do not have electric powered brushrolls. The canisters only have air-driven turbo brushes so the canisters use less electricity and therefore get a higher Air Watt rating. The other thing is canister vacuums have a longer hose and which usually makes a longer air path so you want a more powerful canister motor to compensate for the longer length the air has to travel. I prefer to look at air flow in CFM and Water Lift. CFM tells how much air is moved and Water Lift describes how powerful the suction is for lifting heavier particles. It's like Horsepower and Torque, one is not good without the other.

Those Dyson Cinetic models are notorious for getting dirt inside the motors and destroying themselves. I had ties to a local vacuum cleaner shop when they first hit the market and it was not too long before we started seeing them come into the shops with ruined motors and exhaust filters full of fine dust. On top of that, they still had the issue that the regular Ball uprights had of the brush rolls destroying themselves by getting hair behind the rollers and what not, which is what I am guessing happened to the one you have. In fact, both issues I just described are probably what happened to yours. What makes a Dyson "Cinetic" is the lack of a pre-motor filter. Their cyclones do work extremely well, just not well enough to avoid getting dirt into the motor, hence why their motors often fail, especially if the user gets something jammed in the first cyclone or accidentally overfilled the bin. From a marketing standpoint, a vacuum cleaner with no filters that the user has to wash is a flashy idea, but a waste of money at the end of the day. I am glad to see that they have shifted away from the Cinetic uprights. Their most recent and oddly somewhat quietly released Ball Animal 3 design , though not perfect, did fix some of the issues with the older models such as the motors getting packed with fine dust and the heads ruining themselves. You have to rinse the pre-motor filter every month or so and look after the exhaust filter in the same way, but that is ultimately better for the long-term functionality of the unit. Also, they designed a new head that can actually be opened and cleaned properly by the user. The Dyson Cinetic canisters and upright usually had different motors. The uprights typically had a motor manufactured by YDK or a more basic Panasonic motor, whereas the canisters had a fancier Panasonic motor. The canisters often used a motor design similar to what can usually only be found in a Panasonic-designed Kenmore Elite unit (they also claim about the same Air Watts numbers with the same formula), and has a fan design that enables the unit to move more air and have more suction. That would account for the difference in the Air Watt numbers. As far as cleaning performance of the unit, I would not get too caught up in Air Watts because it does not directly translate to cleaning performance due to the amount of factors that go into a properly functioning vacuum cleaner. They probably opted for the more powerful motors in the canisters because the canisters lack a power nozzle and need that extra help to spin the air-powered tools, which do drain some of the power of the vacuum cleaner.

February 29, 2016 - I’m a little surprised as the suction power of the new Dyson Cinetic Big Ball is weaker than the old Dyson DC41, it is just 180 AW as compared to 235 AW on the DC41. However, the new design helps it generate centrifugal forces of up to 313,000G while the DC41 could reach just around 230,000-250,000G.

Dyson Cinetic Big Ball review: Can this vacuum remove pet hair and allergens from your home? – Chicago Tribune
September 28, 2021 - Most vacuums lack the suction to pick up all the hair most animals shed, plus the excess dirt they carry. Many have filters that clog and require constant cleaning. There’s also the hassle of maneuvering them around furniture and in hard-to-reach spaces. Dyson claims to have solved these problems with the Cinetic Big Ball Animal + Allergy vacuum.
