April 25, 2025Please help me decide between these two Dyson vacuums at Costco Canada. I am deciding between the Dyson V8 Extra Animal Extra and the V12 Detect Slim
I have a v12 and have had a v8. The v12 is a lot nicer to use thanks to the on/off switch. The v8 requires you to hold the trigger down all the time. The v12 also has longer runtime which will help you get through larger areas. V12 also has a one piece filter to clean, v8 has two separate parts to clean. Plus the v12 has the laser fluffy head, really helps find dust and hair on hard floors. And the v12 automatically boosts the suction when more dust is being picked up. V8 has none of that. True the bin is slightly smaller, but I think the v12 makes up for it in other areas. If you're worried about the bin capacity, and with cats it sounds like you might be, I'd also suggest the v15. I bought the v12 absolute slim detect and its been good enough for my wife and me. 2 story house w/dog and hardwood floors and no problems with the battery. Need to empty the bin like 2-3times when vacuuming carpets that our dog lies on. V12 is really light and I like it More on reddit.com

Comments going back and forth when the real win here is COSTCO. majority of the negative Dyson comments are on longevity. Me personally my two Dysons are rock solid. However, Costco’s lifetime return nullify that risk, just keep the box/receipt and you should be good to go. More on reddit.com

I bought a Dyson hand vacuum about 3 years ago. The battery on this thing is shit. I can maybe get about 20 mins I’m lucky. Does anyone know how long Costco warranties dyson/and or returns? I’m never buying another one again.

That's about the expected battery life of a Dyson. You can expect the rest of the machine to be degraded into leaking seals and cracking plastic over the next 8 years if you keep it, during which time all of the replacement parts for it will be discontinued. ... Both of these vacuums are on a discount at Costco. We have 4 cats but it is a big house. We have mostly carpet upstairs and hardwood and tile (with a couple area rugs) downstairs. The price is not important because I will be using a rebate cheque to buy it.
I am undecided but leaning tward the V12. I read that is has an on switch that does not need to be continuously pressed, but the collection bin the the V8 is bigger.
Does anyone have any recommendations or thoughts on these two vacuums?
