I have owned a Dyson dryer (not this one though) for 2 years. I really love it. I use it 2x a week. The best thing about this dryer is how light it is. Mine has 3 speeds and 3 heat settings and it dries fast and powerfully. Previously I used a Babyliss which got hotter, but I worried about it when the handle would heat up, too. And the on-off switch was on the part that you’d hold, so it was easy to inadvertently switch it off mid-dry. That is a great price and I think she will be really happy with it. More on reddit.com

Public service announcement: I would not buy the Supersonic. I have fine, curly hair. I did not use it more than once or twice a month and the motor died just after the warranty expired. It did not seem designed for fine hair and it can't be repaired. It is the most disappointing Dyson item I have ever had. For the price, it seemed like it should last longer. I still have the attachments, as I am holding out hope that some will work with another hair dryer. LOL

Showed different model Non-GFCI plug of the faulty Dyson GFCI plug of the new Dyson
I bought a Dyson hair dryer recently from Costco when it was on sale from my local Costco. Informed by Costco employees that they locked up the dryer in the supply room due to stealing/people opened boxes. Got it anyway. I went home open it up (seals still intact), plug it in, didn't work. I put the serial # on Dyson website and it showed it was the 1st generation (Unsure what is the current gen right now). Called Dyson support and was directed to exchange at Costco for faulty product.
I went to a different Costco 15' away from my local one to see if they have the "lock up" issue there. Turned out there was a whole pallet of Dyson hair dryer. This time it worked! I entered the serial # again on Dyson and it showed a different model (Maybe the newest generation?). I deep dived in the r/dyson and was surprised my first one might be a counterfeit, which is unbelievable because I got it from Costco, not some random sellers. Here are some differences between the faulty one and the new one I got:

I remember someone posting a sign in a Costco employee break room recently that showed the #1 most stolen item at their warehouse was a Dyson Vacuum. It’s unfortunately a common scam of people returning something “unopened” but was replaced with an old or fake or unrelated item. It happened to me once earlier this year at my warehouse where I bought a king mattress cover for $20, opened it, and it was a twin mattress cover stuffed inside. Box and seal were in perfect condition on outside. Criminals have no shame even for relatively cheap items. Was embarrassing for me to have to return it and explain the situation, so F those kinds of people.
