Look into LG Cord Zero as they are often bundled with 2 batteries and a stand.  There is a trend toward dual brushrolls, but if you can find one with a single roller, that would be the route I'd recommend.  Beware that the shark limited warranties are deceptive, lots of exclusions, including the electric nozzle. r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Dyson cordless vs shark cordless
November 16, 2022 -

Hey guys! Gotta know what to get! I have no vacuum in my new house. I grew up using extremely heavy vacuums industrial types so I'm mentally bound on only having cordless. I watched vacuum wars on YouTube and dude recommended the Stratos in one video. But I'm really liking the Dyson 11 which is very hard to find especially at a great price. What's a good in between price vacuum from dyson 8-11 that's comparable to the shark stratos. Vacuum must come with many attachments OR able to add for a good price. Im looking for the motor head for stairs too. I have carpet and hard wood. My co workers told me I should stay away from cordless but I really don't know if I care.... but I don't want a dirty carpet. Any recommendations and things I should stay away from please let me know. Also I have no pets.

Budget 300-500ish

I generally warn folks to stay away from Shark in general, as they do not put a whole lot of emphasis on the longevity of their designs. Most of them, although they have nice features and work well out of the box, have especially dirty bin and filter setups and lack overall build quality. Dyson and Shark are compared directly quite frequently, but Dyson by far offers the better products with superior customer service, in my personal experience at least. I think the price Shark asks for the Stratos cordless is a lot of money for the quality of the machine. I like Vacuum Wars, but his videos do not always take that stuff into account, and I see it in the wild quite frequently from working on all types of vacuum cleaners. It is above your budget, but if you did not see, Dyson is offering a sale at $649 on their V15 Absolute package , which comes with a few fancy attachments, both the universal head for hard floors and carpet and the dedicated hard floor head with the laser, the "Detect" dirt sensor, the powered head you would want for stairs, built-in crevice tool and dusting brush, and so forth. For a unit that they typically sell for $799, the current sale price is actually a solid deal. I am guessing that it is discounted because Dyson is about to roll out a new model, the Gen5 Detect, to dethrone the V15. Since your budget is flexible, I thought it would be worth mentioning, because it really blows the V8 out of the water in about every way. There is some saltiness against Dyson on this subreddit, but the V15 is currently one of the most powerful cordless machines on the market. Dyson designed the V15 to replace a corded machine and I have yet to see evidence that one cannot do so, and the high levels of airflow and suction back that one could. Definitely take any claims that they cannot with a grain of salt, because it likely comes from a place of personal bias. That is an ongoing problem with certain folks. Of course, there are downsides to a cordless machine such as the V15 with examples being run times (though impressive), charge times, and long-term battery life. With that said, I know many people love the convenience of a cordless stick platform vacuum cleaner. If you want something cheaper but of similar quality to a Dyson, LG offers some great deals such as the CordZero A907GMS , which also comes with a universal head, dedicated hard floor roller, and miniature motorized tool for stairs. A few benefits that it has over a Dyson are that it comes with a dual charging stand, it has a cyclone pack that can be washed with the filters, and it has an extender wand. Basically anything from LG would work. They make Kompressor models that are more powerful than the regular models and have a lever that you press to compact the debris in the bin, so definitely search around and find an attachment package and price that is suited for you if you are interested. The main differences between all the models they sell in the CordZero line are the attachments, the amount of batteries, and whether it is a Kompressor model or not. The LGs are of good quality, so no worries there. This is just cordless vacuum cleaners, since that is in what you seem to be interested. I could also list a few corded machines if that would be helpful, because there are benefits to those.

I hate my Dyson hand held. It is loud, breaks often and is hard to empty. Buy anything else.

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Choosing between Dyson and Shark - help!
March 7, 2025 -

Hi all

Apologies in advance for the long/detailed post.

I've been doing a heap of research, reading reviews, info from vacuum techs, comparison companies etc etc, and have narrowed it down to the following options, and have noted my thoughts/concerns underneath each: (I'm in Australia if that matters)

a) Dyson V15 Detect (Absolute)

PROSCONS
* Powerful - 240 AW* No stand (comes with wall dock, and extra tools can attach to the wand clip, but I was hoping for a stand like the Floor Dok with room for all tools, so might have to purchase that as an extra)
* Lightweight - 3.1kg* Have to hold the trigger down

b) Dyson Gen5 Detect (Complete)

PROSCONS
* Most powerful - 280 AW* Very heavy - 3.5kg
* Single power button* Many reviews stating that the wheel on the head breaks off
* Tools built into inside of the handle* No low-reach

c) Shark Detect Pro with Auto Empty

PROSCONS
* Auto empty* Much lower power - 123 AW
* Single power button* Smaller capacity - .042L vs 0.77L Dysons
* Bends low under furniture
* Super lightweight - 2.7kg

d) Shark PowerDetect Clean and Empty

PROSCONS
* Auto empty* Heaviest of all - 3.6kg
* Single power button* Lowest power - 120 AW
* Bends low under furniture

So... on paper, the Dysons seem to be the better choice due to being more powerful.

However, the "auto empty" feature of the Shark is very appealing. Love that idea.

AND even though Dyson are known for high quality (historically at least... I know there's haters here) - for whatever reason, I keep seeing Shark vacuums recommended by people who said they've always had Dysons, changed to Shark and never looked back - they love them.

So I'm confused. I *think* I'm leaning towards the Dyson V15... I love the idea of the Gen5 single power button, and the most power, and all the extra tools - BUT the weight of it, and the multiple reports of the little wheel thing breaking puts me off a bit.

I'm a small (5'1) woman, with joint/muscle pain issues on and off - hence why the trigger/power button thing is something I've noted. Our current Dyson V8 is only 2.3kg, which is a huge difference to all of these ones. But my issues aren't so severe that I probably can't just put up with the extra weight for a bit while I do a quick vacuum. I dunno... what do you all think? Is it a noticeably big difference, does it cause issues?

Our house - hardwood floors through the living areas, tiles in bathrooms, carpet in bedrooms.

! Argh! Help me decide!

I'd really love to hear from u/JohnnyHucky - I've read heaps of your comments, and despite the hate for some brands on these forums, you always have a very fair and measured response, and are primarily concerned with helping people vs just spouting off about your favourite brand.

To anyone who bothered to read this all - thanksssssss :)

July 28, 2025 -

Hi all,

I’m trying to choose a cordless vacuum to go with my Miele Complete C3, which is currently in for repair. I’ve had it a while and it’s insured with Domestic & General, so hoping it comes back good as new.

I’ve tried the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute and Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty (IP3251UKT). The Dyson is lighter and works well, but it’s expensive. I can get it cheaper from Dyson’s eBay outlet, but it only comes with a 1-year warranty.

The Shark PowerDetect is good but heavier, and I don’t think I have space for the auto-empty dock.

I’m also looking at the Shark Stratos IZ420UKT, which seems a good balance lighter than the PowerDetect and comes with a 5-year warranty.

I need something cordless, bagless, reliable and easy for daily use. Any recommendations or long-term experiences with these vacuum cleaners please?

Dyson V8

Shark IZ862H

This will be a gift for my mom, they have a mostly carpet house, but the kitchen, bathrooms and entry way are hardwood. I'd say its about 75/25 carpet. They have two dogs, neither shed excessively. Allergies are not a significant issue.

At my house we have an old Dyson cordless one and my mom likes it, so I'd like to get her something similar as a gift. This will be her first cordless vacuum.

I see reviews comparing the IZ862H to the $1,000 Dyson, but my girlfriend is adamant about Dyson being the way to go.

The Shark is about 60$ more, so my question is if the Shark is worth it? Or should I go with the Dyson? Or is there one I'm not considering that would be far better in a similar price range?

Thanks :)

Isn't much to elaborate beyond the title. The market in my country is fairly limited so those 2 are the main options for me.

The main use is normal flooring (no carpets), sucking mostly pet hairs.

The Dyson v10 (absolute) is around 500$ while the Shark IZ251 (pro) is around 400$ here.

Any help would be appriciated

After using a Dreame T10 for a year, about anything you buy will feel far superior. Between the two that you mentioned, the Dyson is the far better vacuum cleaner. I am not even going to pretend to be remotely familiar with the vacuum cleaner market in Israel, but I know that here in the United States, we have a couple other premium brands that are comparable to Dyson such as LG and Samsung that offer fantastic cordless vacuum cleaners. If you have those, they are worth a look. I am a little partial to the LG models, as I like their charging stands and the way they feel in my hand. If not, the Dyson models are fine. Anyway, back to the comparison. The V10 has an actual multi-cyclonic bin design that keeps the cloth pre-motor filter quite clean over far longer periods of time. The Sharks have single cyclones that soil the filter quite quickly, causing the user to need to wash them frequently. Having the dedicated hard floor tool and separate carpet tool like on the V10 may seem less convenient than having them combined, but each one does their intended task better than the DuoClean head of the Shark, in my opinion. The soft roller of the V10 seems to be much more delicate and effective on hard floors and the Motorbar head seems to clean carpet more thoroughly, and it can do hard floors as well if you do not feel like changing the head. The soft roller just does a more thorough job. Plus, as far as suction and airflow go, the Dyson trumps the Shark. The one thing that the Shark has is the bend in the wand to get under small furniture, but Dyson sells one for the V10 , so I still think the V10 is worth the extra price. I think I linked the correct one, although a lot of the website was in Hebrew, so I had a bit of trouble reading it. Also, it is worth noting that Performance Reviews has some kind of vendetta against Dyson and does not like cordless "stick" vacuum cleaners in general, so I would not expect an unbiased and rational response from him. This is highly evident if you watch any of his Dyson "reviews" on his YouTube channel. I would disregard most of what he says about them, because he even makes false claims such as that the Dysons are below the competition in terms of performance (suction, airflow, cleaning ability, etc.), which is far from the truth.

My husband and I are needing a new vacuum after our old cheap Hoover died on us.

We are military so our home changes every few years but there is normally a good mix of hardwood and carpet floors, plus a few rugs in the houses we move in to. We have a vacuum we like for any hardwood floors we may have but we need one that’s good for carpet.

We have one dog and that usually means we end up renting houses that have had previous pets in them as well. We just want something that can really get the carpet clean and can last us a good while. My husband wants either a Shark Vertex or a Dyson Ball Animal 3 and I’ve been looking at Miele C3’s, either the cat and dog or Marin. Any input on how well these clean carpet or which would be better? We are open to any other suggestions as well. Thanks all!

*Edit to add that my mom also keeps telling a us to get a Riccar but I don’t know as much about them. Any input?

Dyson and Shark are widely panned for their short lifespans, unrepairability and unreliability. The C3 range on the other hand is great, although I would recommend the Kona over the other models, it’s just better value. See also the Sebo K3 and E3, which are regarded as slightly better quality and value than Miele generally.

For a mix of carpet and hard floors you'll want a powered brushroll with carpet height adjustment and brushroll shutoff. That way it can adjust to whatever different flooring you have. For long hair and pet hair I recommend a vacuum that is easy to clean off. Even vacuums with anti-hairwrap brushrolls get some hair on them especially if it's long human hair they have limits. I agree with u/J3ttf that Shark and Dyson uprights are not recommended. Both tend to break easily and then become unrepairable, it's worse for Sharks because their warranties exclude most of the vacuum. Miele C3 vacuums are really great. You have to buy a model with a carpet powerhead included because you cannot add it to models that are not wired for it. So the Miele C3 Kona and Miele C3 Cat & Dog come with powerheads but the Miele C3 Calima does not and cannot power a carpet powerhead. Other choices to the Miele C3 are the Sebo K3 $849 and Sebo E3 $1049. Sebo makes very durable vacuums that you can repair yourself. Mieles need professional servicing, they will not sell you parts, while Sebo sells the whole catalog to you. I noticed that your husband picked 2 upright vacuums. If you prefer an upright vacuum the Sebo Felix $699 is a pretty amazing all-around vacuum. Powerful, quiet, and durable. Downsides are a short hose and only 2 tools included. Lastly the Zero G $679 is one of the cheapest BIFL canister vacuums with a carpet powerhead. It comes with a ton of accessories and it floats on air. Downsides are no automatic cord rewinder and no tool storage on the canister. Oh and watch out for Kirby salespeople, they target military and the elderly.

Will this work on stairs and all? I've been through so many vacuums and I just want something that will give us a deep clean.

So I was just wondering if anybody knows which one is better or the pros and cons of each.

I picked up at Costco the Shark Detect (HERE) on sale for $380 + tax. The roller head has the bristles and the fins, but not is not covered with the soft bristles like I saw on youtube reviews. Haven't opened it up yet.

I also saw the Dyson V8 in store (HERE) for $450. The motor head seems about the same as the Shark. It has more attachments, but I probably would only end up using 1 or 2 of them.

I've got a combination of hardwood and carpet. But the hardwood I don't usually vacuum.

The price is almost the same. I've already got a corded Dyson V8 ball from a couple of years ago. I thought about getting a Dyson V15 but not sure I would want to spend the money for one unless it is a life changing vacuum. I thought I would check to see if what people think.

Ok, if you've never had a cordless stick vacuum, having one will be game changing for light cleaning. Super convenient and cordless. However, if you are looking to regularly clean your carpets a cordless vacuum does not deep clean carpets the way a corded vacuum will. Between the Dyson V8 and Shark Detect: just return the Shark. Sharks break quickly, they're not repairable, and their warranty excludes most of the vacuum. The Shark Detect also has a triangle in the bin that just collects dust but you cannot clean out. The Dyson V8 is their best balance of price and performance and weight. The much more expensive V15 adds fluff, "lasers", particle sensors, and automatic modes do not make it clean better. The V15 is more expensive and heavier, making it more tiresome to use for longer cleaning or when using it as a handheld. The V15 does have a removable battery but it's a terrible value. Many other cordless vacuums like LG and Samsung come with 2 batteries and charging stand for the price of a V15 which gives you 1 battery and a wall mount. If you are just looking for something easy to use to regularly clean your carpets and you don't have a regular corded vacuum check out the light weight uprights like the Oreck Elevate Command $579 CAD. It uses huge hepa bags and it's just 10 pounds total but you don't have to carry the weight up at the handle.

November 24, 2025 -

Hey guys,

Ive been googling and youtubing around for days trying to figure out what cordless vacuum cleaner I should get. Got recommended this subreddit, and I wonder if you had any advice on which one I should get, or if I should avoid them all together.

I was set on a Dyson v8 absolute, then a V11 advanced, then a Shark Powerpro IZ380EU. Depending on which video or post I look at, theyre all either garbage or fantastic.

If anyone wishes to guide me a little it would be much appreciated.

I live in a 50 square meter apartment so operation time between charging isnt a major concern, no pets and am slightly budget conscious but can bend. I have some thick carpets and very long hair, so a vacuum with good suction power is important. I do wish for a vacuum that doesnt need replacement in a couple years, but apparently thats hard to find.

Thanks!

EDIT:

Also, thought Id add I can get the Dyson v8 for under $300, the Dyson v11 for under $500 and the Shark Powerpro to under $200. Im based in Europe.

Riccar R65 is hands down better than all of those, while being middle of the road price wise. Literally put it in your hand beside all those units, and you’ll understand why. And, it’ll be easier, much easier, to get parts for than all those units. Edit: you can add on a dedicated hardfloor powerhead, but the one it comes with typically works fine.

I’m looking for input on purchasing a stick cordless vacuum.

Budget: $250-$500

Flooring: 60% hardwood, 30% tile, 10% rug/carpet. Small apartment, 700 sq ft total.

I’m open to other cordless vacuum suggestions, but the features I’ve identified that I really want/need are

  1. lights/laser on the main vacuum head (my apartment is dark, all light helps)

  2. auto-adapting to increase power for areas with more dirt

  3. conversion to easy to use hand held.

I like the idea of the flex feature to get under furniture on the Shark but I think I would be ok without it.

This is more for quick/maintenance cleaning rather than deep cleaning.

I had a Dyson before and liked it a lot. I’ve also used both the Tineco S11 and A10 when visiting relatives and thought they were fine.

I have narrowed it down to the Dyson v12, tineco s11, and shark stratos based on the features I had identified, but open to other suggestions. My concern about the Shark is converting it to a comfortable to use handheld and the weight. The Dyson is pricier and not sure if it’s worth it. The Tineco is the cheapest but it wasn’t my favorite when using it before.

I know the dyson v12 is slightly above budget but I’m willing to be flexible a bit if it’s worth it.

I had eliminated LG and Samsung because they seemed to lack the LED lights.

Thanks for any advice you have!

Hi everyone. I’ve purchased one vacuum in my life and it was the Dyson V7. Now, 6 years later and a dying battery, I need to get something new. Here’s what I’m in between:

The Dyson V15

https://www.costco.com/dyson-v15-detect-total-clean-extra-cordless-stick-vacuum.product.4000177472.html?sh=true&nf=true

The Shark Duo Clean

https://www.costco.com/shark-duoclean-lift-away-upright-vacuum-with-self-cleaning-brushroll.product.100487494.html

Price is a factor, but if I love something I will pay the extra amount. My hold back on the Shark is that it has a cord and I find myself not wanting to revert to that, however it’s significantly cheaper and well-loved based on reviews.

The Dyson I’m more inclined to because I’ve had one before, plus it’s light and easy to start vacuuming as you’re not restricted by the cord.

Anyone have insight? Is there another vacuum that you recommend that’s better than both of these but under $700?

Thanks in advance.

My Dyson animal v11 died. I cannot figure out what is wrong with it after taking it apart to clean/check for any clogs, scrub the filter and all parts, etc. battery is fully charged and occasionally sputters to life for 2 seconds before dying again and refusing to turn on when I pull the trigger. Looking to replace it as Dyson customer support hasn’t gotten me anywhere and I can’t find a local repair shop to work on cordless Dysons. Im torn between replacing with/upgrading to another Dyson (looking at Dyson v15 submarine absolute) or jumping ship to Shark. I do not see a shark comparable to the v15 submarine but would likely replace with the shark stratos cordless.

Here are the considerations:

50% carpet/50% hardwood 2x daily use ~2000 sq ft home Pet hair

Budget is ideally under $1000, but that Dyson is in the running so this is negotiable at this point

Any recommendations for one brand versus the other?
