Hei, just planning on buying this combined vacuum+washer. Does that ACTUALLY work? Thanks for sharing your opinions
My partner and I are choosing between these two vacuum sets. The price difference is quite minimal (~5%) due to Black Friday deals.
We would love some advice on which one to choose given the V15s has a hard floor washing head too.
| Model | Price |
|---|---|
| V15s Submarine Complete Vacuum (gold HEPA edition) | $999 |
| Gen5Detect Complete Vacuum (Prussian blue and rich copper edition) | $1049 |
Below are a comparison of what comes in the package:
V15s Submarine Complete Vacuum (gold HEPA edition) Gen5Detect Complete Vacuum (Prussian blue and rich copper edition)Based on what I can see, there is a around a 5% price difference between these two but the v15s has a wet roller head option.
Gen5Detect is the newest model with no wet roller head.
What's your advice and what would you choose?
Any feedback on your experience with these two models is appreciated too.

Hi guys, Dyson seem to be having Black Friday discounts on V15 and V15s Submarine here in Australia and they are both the same price after the discount! I've been waiting for Black Friday sales to buy a vacuum under A$1000 and these two are A$999 right now.
Other than the submarine (wet mopping) part of it, are there any other benefits in V15s submarine over regular V15 detect? Which one would you get if the submarine part wasn't really a deal breaker?
I'm looking for a honest review on this. The 1299 comes with all 3 heads and i know the other ones are pretty sweet. But i don't know anyone who has the wet mop.
I love dyson products but not this one!!! Very small water tank can clean little space. Too much water coming out. No vacuuming same time. So buy you guys should buy proper Mopping machine.
I have it from a couple of days and I'm disappointed in these aspects:
The brush is too soft, I need to pass many times on the same stain or very, very slowly, to get it removed. Some stains don't even get removed at all.
It rotates too slow, I can't do fast movements like I would do with a mop and finish fast.
It spreads dirty drops here and there so I have to pass it again.
As it is, I don't find any usage of this device, at all.
So I would like to know if any of you "upgraded" it somehow, to fix these problems.
I think that finding a slightly harsher brush (among all those unofficial compatible pieces online, but I couldn't find any) could already help partially.
Or if you modified the device itself somehow to make it press a little harder on the floor? Or rotate faster?
Else I can't do anything else than selling it to some other unfortunate person like me, although I feel like I'm scamming them honestly...
I'm also curious to know what you're using it for, if you have it. I have all hard floors here (all ceramic, mostly smooth), and have "normal dirt", such as fine dust and occasionally stains that could be dried or not. Very normal case scenario I think...
Hello! The title says it all. This is my first time buying a Dyson vacuum cleaner and I want to make the best decision. Thank you!!
I’m thinking about finally getting a Dyson, and was thinking about the V15S détect submarine absolute, as it is on sale for 999CAD from 1199CAD.
My thought was that I could replace my spin mop, dustbuster, and regular vacuum. I have a fairly small amount of equal amounts of moppable flooring/non-moppable laminate/carpet.
Stairs are a problem - I have numerous pets who shed silky hair on the stairs. The dustbuster is useless and my vacuum is cumbersome and only marginally effective, and I don’t vac as often as I should because it is a two-person job.
Is there a lot of power as a handheld item? I was hoping that if it has enough power I could use it that way on the stairs, and vacuum daily.
I bought a V15 detect absolute a few years ago when it first came out and I love it. The only missing feature is a wet mop. Now that Dyson introduced a mop attachment for the V15, I thought I could just buy the attachment and be satisfied. But no, Dyson won't sell it separately, and my V15 is older and the software is not compatible. Dyson could've just release a firmware update and let customers come to their service center, but god forbid that. I will have to buy the new V15.
So I bought a new Roborock vacuum robot and it does a fantastic job at vacuuming and mopping. Dyson could've lock me in the Dyson ecosystem, but they just have to milk a few extra hundred dollars from their customers. And now, I will never buy another Dyson product, because there is no need to. Fuck you Dyson
Hi everyone!
I am here to give my opinion on the new Dyson V16 (with Submarine floor head). After doing some research on Dyson and this fairly new machine, I decided to buy one and after just a month and I have a lot to say.
Firstly, the launch was somewhat weird. They released the product on their website before they did the big announcement event. The product site was lagging, as if it wasn't ready yet and published unintentionally. Then, they had a picture up, showing a fluffy floor cleaning head, which later turned out to be a mistake. It didnt show in the accessory list, but it was clearly visible in the pictures. They took it down after 1 or 2 days. According to a Dyson employee on reddit, they are planning to introduce this floor head at a later date. I bought it though, thinking it was included.
I got my new Dyson on 4th September and had a pretty good cleaning experience the first 3 weeks. The new cone shaped floor head though, which is now intended for both carpet and hard floor use, has design flaws. The cone shape makes it impossible to push flush towards a wall or any other flat object and will leave about 5mm of space towards each end of the head unvacuumed.
As you may have seen in other reviews already, it also leaves an "unvacuumed" streak in the middle. But I honestly don't think -or at least can't tell - it impacts the cleaning performance.
The submarine 2.0 floor head did a great job. I cant compare it to the previous version as this is my first Dyson, but it cleans everything else, the vacuum cant. After seeing all the terrible reviews about the wet cleaning, I want to address, that for some reason most of them just used it wrong. It's for mobbing the floor, and not picking up big junks of dirt. For floor stains or just a wet mobbing after vacuuming, it's a great tool.
The plastic body of the battery pack kinda creeks when you move it around, so the overall built quality does not serve its price point of 1000€ (EU).
IT BROKE DOWN
So after using it for less then a month, it suddenly started doing the infamous "pumping" and telling me it was clogged. After checking everything thoroughly, I couldn't find any clogging whatsoever. So I went to the internet to learn about cyclone clogging. And thats what happened to my brand new Dyson V16 after about 3 weeks. The Cyclone completely clogged. To a point where knocking it out wont help fixing it. Though I got about a FULL CUP of very fine dust out, it just keeps pumping and telling me to check the pipe and accessories.
I am pretty sure this happened after I vacuumed a mattress.
The fact that a 1000€ vacuum breaks down because of fine dust, finding its way to places it shouldn't be, to a point beyond repairability by the customer, is unbelievable. That is a huge design flaw, that either hasn't been fixed (since older models have the same issue), or got worse. I think this issue got worse.
Customer support is a whole other story. The WhatsApp agent was just not having it. Luckily the agent on the phone was helpful.
So is it a deal breaker? For most people probably yes. I just need a convenient and fun way of cleaning my apt. and the integrated wet cleaning just makes it so much more interesting. I will get a replacement and see, if it was a manufacturing issue. I am fearing that it is a hefty design flaw, but I will keep you posted.
I would like to hear your opinions and experiences!
costco is selling a v9 version of the vacuum:
https://www.costco.com/dyson-v9-submarine-extra-cordless-wet-and-dry-stick-vacuum.product.4000375162.html Dyson V9 Submarine Extra Cordless Wet and Dry Stick Vacuum | Costco
from my research, it doesnt look like dyson ever made a v9 line of vacuums - does anyone have any intel what this means? im trying to decide if i should by the cheaper costco model or invest in the v15s.
Dyson just launched the new wet and dry vacuum in South Korea, and Canada. The Piston Animal DS60 Submarine equipped with a new Submarine wet cleaner head, and the new floor cones sense cleaner head. The accessories are dedicated to this model (Not backward compatible). The V15s Submarine already disappeared in Canada's website.

Best Buy - Dyson Piston Vacuum Review
As you know, the V15s can’t officially be retrofitted to a standard V15.
Let me rephrase it better: a 799€ vacuum cannot use a 150€ accessory that is fitted to the very same vacuum with an S at the end and with the same price and functionality.
This due to two options, and whatever the answer, they’re both awful for customers and for a company like Dyson:
they don’t want to
they can’t due to a FW update issue
Now the first one, although understandable, is a complete lack of respect towards customers. We’re talking people that invested good money on what is supposed to be the best product on the market and I give them credit for that, is a great product, but being screwed over like this is something I wouldn’t expect to be honest. Especially because I, like many other people, would have been interested in purchasing that accessory, even with a higher price. But being cut out like this, with the very same model? That is not how you do it. They could have opted for an adapter if they really wanted to, is not like it’s magic or something, where there is a will there is a way and yet they didn’t.
Let’s move to the second option, which isn’t better. This means a fundamental lack of foresight/planned obsolescence. Again, on a 799€ model which was supposed to be the top of the line not that long ago. The V15 is not even 3 years old and Bluetooth, USB and Wi-Fi weren’t exactly new in 2021.
As a customer, I’m disappointed and pissed about this situation because I genuinely feel like I’ve been scammed. Don’t get me wrong, I love the product and what it does, but I don’t like the fact that the very same product can do other stuff that mine can’t just because one of those reasons I mentioned above. In general, I prefer to buy good products, top of the line precisely because of that, precisely because I don’t want to be cut off for upgrades, and I want support. I got none of it.
I wouldn’t had any issue whatsoever if they had this feature on a different model, like a hypothetical V16 or something, it would have been annoying for sure, but I would have understood that from a company perspective, but not like this.
There’s still time, admitting to be wrong and going back on their steps would be highly appreciated by their customers.
I’m posting this as a warning to anyone considering the Dyson V12s Detect Submarine. I received mine yesterday and immediately realized something was wrong. Despite the model being branded as “Detect”, it does not include the Fluffy Optic cleaner head with the laser — the feature that literally defines the Detect lineup.
You would reasonably expect a product called “Detect” to include the Detect functionality. Dyson’s own product images reinforce that expectation by clearly showing the Fluffy Optic head on the V12s Detect Submarine page. Yet when you open the box, it’s simply not there.
When I contacted Dyson, they claimed that the laser head “does not come with this model,” even though they continue to display it on the product page. No explanation, no acknowledgment of the misleading imagery, no attempt to make it right. Just a generic “you can return it if you want.”
And here’s where things get worse.
Major tech reviewers did receive the Fluffy Optic head.
Reviews such as the one from Buro247 explicitly state that the V12s Detect Submarine includes the Fluffy Optic cleaner head. That means Dyson is sending out a version with the proper Detect features to reviewers — the version they want the public to believe they’re selling — and then shipping a downgraded version to actual customers. That is deceptive, plain and simple.
Link to review (the one Dyson seems to have used for positive buzz):
https://www.buro247.my/lifestyle/technology/dyson-v12s-detect-slim-submarine-review-replace-mop.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com
The reviewer lists Fluffy Optic as included. So why isn’t it in the retail box?
Dyson also labels the product on their website with “New technology,” which heavily implies that the Detect laser system has been strengthened or upgraded. Online discussions around Dyson’s lasers make it clear this is a major talking point among customers, so using “new technology” in the Detect lineup suggests exactly that: an improved or enhanced Fluffy Optic system. Yet Dyson somehow uses the “Detect” name and “new technology” phrasing while shipping a product with no laser at all.
This is not a misunderstanding. This is misrepresentation.
It looks like Dyson is deliberately leveraging the Detect brand, reviewers’ versions, and misleading product photography to sell something that does not match customer expectations — or even match what they send to the media.
If Dyson wants to sell a Submarine-only model with no laser, fine — but then don’t call it “Detect,” don’t show the Fluffy Optic head in the images, and don’t send inflated versions to reviewers while quietly removing features from retail units.
For a company that charges premium prices, this kind of bait-and-switch behavior is unacceptable.
I strongly advise avoiding Dyson until they fix their product naming, their marketing, and their transparency. If anyone else has experienced this discrepancy, please share — it’s important that people know what they are really buying.
I'm having trouble reattaching the 'Anti-tangle Screw' accessory. It doesn’t seem to mount properly. Can anyone help?
I recently moved into my new house, and one of the things I haven't bought yet is a good vacuum cleaner. I have been looking into both the Dyson V15 Detect Submarine and the Shark Hydrovac, but I don't know much about which one is better. From the price, I can expect the Dyson to be much better, but I just don't know if the brand is just overhyped.
I'm not really sure about the vacuum cleaner + mop thing, I think it could be very convenient, but maybe someone here knows they're not worth it at all and suggest me to go to a regular vacuum and forget about the mop thing (which would also be okay).
One thing I like about the shark (apart from the huge price tag difference) is that there is a corded version: I'm not a big fan of having to charge the battery every time, and my house is big enough to not be able to clean it all in one single charge.
Any suggestions on whether the mop thing is a good idea? Maybe an alternative option that I haven't considered? Thanks a lot!
Note: Whilst I don't mind it to be corded, I draw a line to the "sled vacuums". Unless it's THE ONE vacuum I will ever need and want which happens to be a sled one, I'd rather it be handheld.
Hey folks! I’m considering buying a Dyson v15 submarine as a personal gift for Christmas, I currently live in a 700 sqfoot condo and I have a cat, I’m aware that it’s not a deep cleaning mop but I currently to have one of those spin mops that were all the rave.
My question is does the submarine come with the duster attachment thingie or the crevice attachment? Like is the built in version of those tools on the absolute far superior to the average mop ability of the submarine? I was hoping the submarine could be used as a daily driver to keep the flooors clean and I would deep clean weekly or bi weekly with my other mop but I’m trying to decide over this dusting thing and couch tool! And before you say it’s a lot of money I do know this but I always try and buy for the future ( never know if I’m going to end up willing the lottery and buy a house 🤣😂🤣 ) Thanks for reading this long rant about vaccums ( I suppose I’m old now when things like this excite me more than a new ps5 game 😢🥺)
Anyways happy holidays!
Do not buy this vacume only for its water attachment. Why? The water attachment works 10 percent level. I had some sugary pop my kids spilled on our wood floors. I reached for the submarine to do its job. It did but it took me ten minutes. I hate this submarine attachment because i think its going to work and it never does. The vacuum however is amazing. After many tries to hope this submarine attachment can do a decent job it just leaves me in frustration. Its pure junk. A miss for Dyson.
