So I'm in for a new cordless vacuum cleaner because my bosh Athlet 32v is broken (paid +- 300€ for it aprox 3 years ago).
Originally I've replaced it's internal 18650 batteries but that specific model is locked when you do that + the plastic broke off on the brush holder.
So I'm looking for a RELIABLE one with enough suction power for MANY years to come.
My home is 50m² of tiles (hardfloor) with no rug. My stairs are covered in carpet though and upstairs it's hardwood. So I'm mainly interested in a hardfloor one that can also do the stairs and occasionally doing my car.
So far what I've read, the V12 is best suited without having to drag the big V15.
Worse case I'd need to buy a new battery in a year or 3 (at 150€ that is EXTREMELY expensive though)!.
To do my car I guess I'll have to shell out for the flexibel part

Now I'm very confused because I see A LOT of positive reviews/comments on the V12, but then in some area's I hear it's utterly garbage with flimsy plastic parts.
I'm not a particular careful owner, not that I abuse things but I tend to use them 'carefree' so it will fall down, bump everywhere etc. What are you opinions regarding this on the V12?

I have owned one for 2 years, and the device, while great - has absolutely no support. I have been looking for a backup battery for over a year now on the official Dyson site and it was always out of stock.

Now - the inevitable has happened and the original battery finally died. The V12 battery is still completely out of stock. Multiple posts by users online also show the same cry for help.

Their customer support has been no help whatsoever. They keep telling me that they'll put in a notification request when the battery comes back in stock - well, it's been over 6 months now. Still nothing.

If you are going to buy a Dyson, get something that has easily accessible alternate support parts like the V8, V11 and V15. Or better yet, buy at Costco so it's completely risk free.

I’m currently in the market for one, or maybe two, cordless vacuums. After A LOT of research, including on this wonderful forum, I’ve narrowed the choice down to: Dyson V12, one of the Samsung models, LG Cordzero, or the Hoover HEPA Bagged Cordless. When I started my research, the Dyson was on sale for $450, a considerable discount. So I jumped the gun a bit and bought it while it was on sale, figuring I could try it out under the 30 day return policy. I’ve never owned a cordless stick so I had no idea how I’d like it.

Use case: I live in a 2 story 2100 sf home. No pets, no kids, shoeless household, so it stays pretty clean. It gets a thorough professional cleaning with my Miele canister every 6 weeks, and I just spot clean in between. (Did I say it stays pretty clean? I know this may not work for many, but it does for me.)

The upper floor is the main floor; it has a combination of tile, hardwood, somewhat delicate area rugs (no brush roll), and medium pile carpet in the two bedrooms. The lower level is all medium pile carpet except the bathroom. I have allergies so I need HEPA filtration.

I want to have at least one cordless vacuum, and possibly one on each floor, to make it easier for me to vacuum in between house cleaner visits.

I have now been using the Dyson for a few weeks. Here is my experience:

Pros:

—Super easy to use. This is the biggest pro by far to me. I actually fell in love with it in the Dyson store because it is just so light weight - including as a hand held vac - which was important to me (I’m a petite woman). The controls are easy to use, it’s super easy to switch attachments, and the heads are small and easy to maneuver around obstacles. It’s amazing to me that I can just grab it out of the closet, do a quick clean up of a room, and put it back in about the time it would take me to move my Miele and attachments to the room and plug it in.

—Did a great job on tile and hardwood, including vacuuming up hair from the bathroom. No hair was left on the roller at all.

—Bin size is big enough for me. I was concerned about this because it has one of the smallest bins of the Dyson models, but that really didn’t seem to be a problem. I used it on two different occasions, each time vacuuming two or three rooms, and the bin wasn’t even close to full. (Did I say my house stays pretty clean?) I emptied it just to test what that was like, but I actually think I would be able to go about a month before emptying it under regular use.

—Build quality felt better than I expected (granted, I’m not an expert). In particular, the connections seemed high quality and easy to use.

Neither Pro nor Con: —Did a decent job of making my medium pile carpet look clean, but did not give me that deep clean feeling I get with my Miele. But if I use it a lot more often, it should still up the cleanliness quotient of my house, so I can live with that level of performance.

Cons:

Now for the somewhat ugly: Emptying out the bin. The guy in the showroom showed me how easy it was to “eject” the bin dust into a garbage can, but it did not work that way in real life, probably because there was a lot of hair. That clumped up with the dust, and I had to manually remove most of the contents. I did it outside, emptying it into a plastic bag that then went into the trash (so much for bagless!), so it wasn’t too bad. But it did feel a little grungy, and I definitely would never empty it in the house! Give me a bagged any day.

So, will I keep it after the 30 days?

The answer is - maybe. It definitely is a vast improvement over not owning a cordless, and well worth the $450 to me. The only question is whether there is another cordless I would like better.

I just ordered the Hoover HEPA Bagged Cordless (for $124!), and I will compare them. If I like the Hoover’s performance, I might end up keeping both - the Hoover for carpets and the Dyson mainly for hard floors, area rug spot cleaning (I think I’ll need to use the mattress attachment for this), use as a hand held, and for things like spills. It is just so small and light that it feels like keeping a broom in the closet, so I could even see myself storing three vacuums upstairs (the Miele and the two cordless). Or, I could relegate the Hoover to downstairs, which is mostly carpet.

I still would love to check out the Samsung and LG too, especially to see how usable they feel in comparison to the Dyson. The big draw for me with these two is the cleaning station, which would eliminate the yucky bin emptying. (I remain baffled why anyone thinks bagless is a good idea.)

Anyway, I hope this personal account is helpful to someone. And if you have thoughts about the pros and cons of these four vacs, or others to suggest, that would be great!

After five years the motor on my Tineco A10 finally gave up the ghost. It was a perfect vacuum but being the primary sucker for that long at under $200 for a house full of animals and kids I can’t complain. So I lurked here a while and settled on the Dyson V12 Slim Detect since we had good experience with a first-gen Ball from back in the day.

Our current house is just under 3,000 sq ft which is about 60/40 hardwood to carpet split upstairs and downstairs. The downstairs gets MUCH more traffic and dirtier way faster. We also have a simple iRobot something and a Bissel ProHeat 2X for deep cleaning carpets and a pho Larry. Here are my thoughts on the Dyson V12 for anyone else who is looking for info:

Positives:

• The single battery lasts about as long as two batteries in the Tineco. It can do just about our whole lived-in portion of the house on one charge.

• The suction on the V12 thing is noticeably better than the A10 and I’m pulling up some deep and nasty stuff from the carpets. Nice!

• It’s quieter than the A10 and makes a really rad noise when powered off.

• I’m glad I got the version with the big red ON button compared to older Dysons where you have to hold the trigger down at all times. I have no idea why it took them so long to add that basic quality of life feature.

• It seems easy to clean so far and true to their word the attachments aren’t getting gunked up easily. The metal filter is also curious but cool.

• The attachment and accessory package seems good and I’ve already used them all.

• It’s very light!

• The V12 does a really good job of picking up larger items like cereal. The A10 was terrible at this and I basically had to play Hungry Hungry Hippos everywhere.

Meh:

• Needing to take off the attachments to empty the canister kind of sucks but that’s an extremely minor annoyance, especially if it means it’s better built otherwise.

• I super don’t care about the charts it’s showing me about what’s being sucked up.

• I wish the standard roller had a headlight and I miss that from the Tineco.

• The taller roller head means I can’t vacuum under as many things as the A10.

Negatives:

• Incredibly subjective but yo this thing is ugly. I don’t mind having appliances and tools with some color but something less primary and circus tent inspired would have been nice.

• Not all of the attach points feel super snug and that concerns me about long-term durability.

• You can NOT use this thing at all on thin Ruggable style rugs. Even on low it creates so much suction that it can’t move and sounds like it’s about to explode. This isn’t the case with every other vacuum I’ve ever used.

• It feels overall kind of cheap despite how well it’s working now.

• And probably my biggest peeve is the wheel on the roller heads SUCKS. I guess they’re trying to do a mini-ball style design but it’s useless to the point where I feel like the vacuum is just being dragged around and not rolling. This is especially bad on carpet as I can straight up see the disks not spinning as I love it around. This also makes turning the unit feel terrible. The Tineco A10’s rubber wheels were MILES above this implementation and I have no idea what Dyson was thinking.

So overall I’m liking the Dyson V12 Slim Detect but I feel like it could be a much better product with some work, especially when much cheaper vacuums have some better attributes. However I would NOT recommend it at full price as MSRP is $650 but I got it on sale for $500 which is way, way more reasonable.

I spend the last couple of weeks reading through all the posts in this sub comparing the Dyson V12 and V15. Still unsure, I ordered both from Costco when they went on sale for Black Friday and figured I would share my thoughts for anyone else in the same situation.

The V12 is slightly lighter and easier to maneuver and I enjoy not have to hold down the trigger. For these reasons I would recommend this one for anyone with mobility issues. This is the only reason I would recommend this one though. The dust bin is much smaller as many reviews have mentioned but when you look at the max fill line it is actually tiny. I could look past this for the other features if it wasn’t also much harder to empty. Each time I go to empty it I find myself having to dig my fingers around in the canister to remove the dirt. When I empty the V15 everything just falls right out.

The V15 feels slightly more powerful, especially on carpet. Due to the slight increase in weight and overall size, I do find it a little harder to maneuver. The dust bin is much larger and as I already said, so easy to empty. I have a love hate relationship with the trigger. I feel like the battery will last a little bit longer since I am not holding it down while switching areas (with the V12 I found myself just leaving the machine on as I moved) and I enjoy the control it offers but for a big clean my finger does get a little tired. I’ve seen the attachment that holds it down on Amazon and I will likely just order that if it becomes an issue.

The price different with both sales for me was about $100 CDN, so not really a deal breaker either way.

I plan on keeping them both for a little longer and doing a full house vacuum with each to test the battery life on auto mode but at this point the V15 is by far the winner.

I would love to hear other’s experiences before making my final decision.

I also have a bagged Miele that I will use for a deep clean once a week but wanted something more convenient for in between cleans.

TLDR: The V15 is better unless you have mobility issues.

TL;DR: Bought a Dyson V12 in 2022. It started randomly shutting off. Sent it in, got it back with downgraded firmware. Sent it again, Dyson couldn’t fix it, replaced it. Replacement had same issue after a year. Sent it in, they again couldn’t fix it and are now sending a third unit. Fingers crossed.

I bought a Dyson V12 Detect Slim Absolute+ in 2022 and was really happy with it — until one day it started shutting off just a few seconds after being turned on. I could still get it to work by power-cycling it a few times, but the issue would return the next day.

Eventually, the problem got too annoying, so I contacted support around the end of 2023. They were friendly and told me to send it in for repair. A few days later, I got my vacuum back — that detail will matter later — and it worked fine again. However, I noticed the firmware had changed: the particle readout was missing. That was one of the key features I bought this model for, so I contacted support again.

They told me to send it in once more, which I did in January 2024. Right after they received it, I got two emails back-to-back: one confirming receipt, and another saying, “repair couldn’t be completed.” I tried to follow up via email to ask what happened (since I assumed this was just a firmware issue), but got no reply. Over the next month, I received that same "repair couldn’t be completed" email two more times before finally getting notified that I’d receive a replacement. That was in February.

The replacement unit was a slightly updated version and even came with a new warranty — great! Or so I thought.

Fast forward to last month: the same issue happened again. I contacted support, sent it in, and again got the "repair couldn’t be completed" email. Now, 15 days after they received it, I got an order confirmation for a third V12.

Let’s see how long this one lasts — hopefully longer than 12–14 months.

I bought my V12 in March of 2023. 6 months later, when I would press the power button, it would stay on for about 5 seconds and shut off, then after a second or third attempt it would stay on. I contacted Dyson support through their chat and was told the solution was to get the main body cyclone replaced under warranty but it was out of stock and I would be put on a list and contacted when it was available. Cool. No problem.

Fast forward a year later, August 2024, the issue with my V12 had progressively gotten worse; 8-10 attempts to turn it on and stay on, to eventually not staying on at all. I am very annoyed at this point as it had become useless. I contacted support again through the chat and was told they still aren't in stock and there was nothing to be done. A few weeks later my frustration had grown and since the vacuum was a paper weight at this point, I contacted again with more ... enthusiasm. Not hateful. Quite literally pleading to their humanity as to how ridiculous this was and that as a mother of a 4 year old that I have too many messes to clean up to be fucking around with the piece of shit that was my vacuum.

A complete exchange was granted. I was SO HAPPY... until the exchange experience started...

I got an email with a UPS label and was told to pack the machine and ship it. The email also said that Dyson would contact me once they received the machine in their facility. I paid UPS to fragile pack it and off it went. I of course watched the tracking and it was delivered on the 5th of September. No email. Ok maybe they are a little slow, whatever. Contacted two days later to confirm it was there and was told to file a claim with UPS. Uh....what....why? They couldn't tell me if it was there or not. I Googled the address of the "Dyson Flex Exchange" and it came back as a bus stop in El Paso Texas... Side note: I can see that an order was placed by a call center on my account with the order status "Waiting".

So now I am worried something isn't right or there's some side scam going on. Another week goes by and I still hear nothing from Dyson so I called the number to actually speak to someone. They basically told me it was delivered per the UPS tracking and that it can take up to 15 business days to get my new machine. I can't get an answer as to why I haven't received an email.

At this point I give up and decide to just wait while shopping around for another vacuum in case it just doesn't come. I finally get an email on the 24th that my new machine shipped. I got it 4 days later. Jesus Christ. The new one that I got looks different than the one I sent in, a newer model I assume (has the name printed on the pole, brighter detection laser, no on/off switch for the laser), so I really hope whatever issue was going on with the older version was fixed. Time will tell.

TL;DR: V12 Vacuum stopped turning on. Got a successful exchange but Dyson really needs to fix some gaps in their communication with this process.

I have the Dyson v12 slim cordless vacuum. About three months ago it started to turn off after 5 seconds of turning on. Sometimes it takes 5 tries before it stays on fully for me to vacuum. It is apparently a common issue. I contacted customer service and of course it’s out of warrenty by a few months so they’re not willing to send me a new piece for free. To make matters worse the replacement piece is completely out of stock(body and cyclone). So I can’t even get the piece I need with my own money. At this point I’m afraid of spending the $126 or whatever it is to get this new piece and then breaking again. It’s so disappointing because I spent $500 on this vacuum two years ago. It shouldn’t be breaking this soon.

Any advice on those that this has happened to? Should I just move on to another brand of vacuum like a shark?

I bought the V12 Origin (or V12 Detect Origin as it is called on Dysons website) during black Friday after watching multiple reviews of dyson vacuums.

I have not recieved it yet but after some more research it yet but it seems like it is a totally different model than the V12 Slim Detect even though it is called V12 and has detect in the name on the official Swedish website.

I thought at first that it was only missing the laser thing but all other features were the same. But it seems to have less suction power and not have the detect features (why is it then called detect on the website but not on the box?).

But the strangest thing is that there are literally no reviews of the product online except for some Singaporean unboxing videos on youtube. Dyson has no good information about it and it seems to be a product made simply to fool people in to buying an inferior product that has a similar enough name to a better product or something like that.

Does anyone have any experience with this product or is it simply a shitty “black Friday” version of the real deal?

The V12 is currently on sale on Dyson’s website for $430. Should I jump on this? I have been thinking of waiting until Black Friday, does anyone know if that’s a good idea?

The V8 is also on sale for $300. I’m also considering that. I live with my girlfriend in a two bedroom apartment and we have 2 cats. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

Dyson V12 Detect Slim snagged for $324 @ Target on sale.

Pulled an insane amount of dust out of the carpet and handled the food particles and dirt on the hardwood with ease. Only had it for a week but it makes vacuuming so satisfying and easy.

The laser works great as well. There is a particle counter which seems to differentiate how dirty a particular area is and how fine the particles are but I don’t really see the point. It does have an auto function which makes it work harder in dirtier areas. Seems to have good battery life and ease of use.

I hope it lasts awhile and doesn’t break! Highly recommend so far.

Quick question does anyone know what is the real difference between absolute and normal dyson v12 model? the absolute is exclusive to Dyson's website (the HEPA filter is turqoise coloured), but aside from the wand clip I don't see any real difference?

The price is identical, from what I understand the motor as a whole for turqoise absolute model is built in a way to be better at filtration as a whole? and that's about it? but maintenance wise, idk

Anyways, let me know if anyone understands the difference - also if you know the difference between V15 Detect Absolute and V15 Detect - let me know that as well, seems like the only difference there is the crevice tool is built into the wand (idk how secure of a design that will be, stuff like that breaks and usually it's hard to replace/maintain)

Am I the only one thats been sold a dream? Bought a Dyson V12. The Lazer light they installed literally is so stupid of them cause it highlights how little dust it can suck up. All the fancy bells and whistles but zero suction.

Don't even get me started on customer service. We needed a part changed. It was like pulling teeth, I ask a question and I get a canned response of 'thank you bye'. This was after I been through the bot and got to agent , still unwilling to help.

My god, save yourself, just say no.

when I look at dyson v12 specs it says 150 AW (air watts) converts to 18.7pa.

does it number make sense? how 18.7pa makes a good vacuum cleaner?

Hello, I did not find here a separate discussion about choosing V12 or V15, so I ask you for advice.

I want to buy my first cordless Dyson. At this moment we are using DC32. It's very old and corded, so I've decided to buy a new one.

I have probably already reviewed all the videos about these vacuum cleaners, but I still can’t decide which one suits me better.

So, as I know, the difference between them is:

V12:

• 24% lighter

• Power button instead of trigger

V15:

• 100% bigger dust bin

• 50% more suction power

• Impoved motorhead

So… I don't really know what to choose, because each has advantages and disadvantages. I like both the lighter weight and the bigger dust bin with more power.

Some information about me and my house:

• Male, 90kg, 180cm

• Two-storey house, 200 square meters, but with DC32 I only have the patience for 1 floor at a time

• Only hard floors

• I also vacuum furniture and a car

• One floor speedrun took me 25 minutes with DC32

Unfortunately, I don't have the opportunity to test them myself, so I have a few questions:

1. How important is lighter weight to the average man like me?

2. Is the trigger really that bad?

3. How fast does the V12 dust bin fill up?

4. Why would I need more suction power?

5. Is the improved motorhead really better? (Although I'm pretty sure I'll only use the laser nozzle)

I will have to order from another countries, so I have a choice between regular V12 and V15 and their gold versions. Are these gold versions worth the overpayment with its extra attachments? I really like their design.

Hi! I now have hoover h-free 500 which I bought to small studio apartment, as it can get stored very easily. Now I live with girlfriend in bigger apartment, and while it still can get things done, since we have let rats, some debris from them is nearly impossible to pick up, shoots through the house or stays in the tube to fall out when vacuum is turned off. This is extremely annoying and makes cleaning horror. Additionally battery life is mediocre, but usually is enough for whole apartment.

Me and my partner are preferring cordless vacuums, and don't see reason to go corded again, so please don't try to sell it to us. Looking at how better performance from this hoover can be is reassuring only.

Other than performance this older hoover have some nice quality of life features, like folding for storing under counter, always handy brush attachment that's always on main unit and smooth Rolling on floors and relatively small head.

I have only hard floors, large debris pickup is must, would like to manage sofas and car well for additional points. I have stairs in apartment and weight is possibly a little more problematic than in normal apartment. Longevity and/or repairability is also mayor factor, excluding battery replacing of course I live on Poland.

Making some research I found that Dyson v12 is probably best performer for my use case, but I see also other options like

• shark Stratos iz420: I found mixed reviews, convincing is 5 year warranty and folding capability. It is also noticably cheaper than Dyson.

• Samsung jet75: performance seem to be little of, but is quite cheaper. Concerned about longevity.

• Electrolux hygienic xxx: I see no mention on intepentend or user reviews anywhere, do you know something about it? In the market for a new cordless and down to this...I'm willing to spend more on the v15 but only if its actually worth it. Our home is 2900 sq ft, dominantly hardwood floors with rugs. We have 2 dogs but they don't shed much. Just looking for general thoughts from those that have experience with both.

I plan on pulling the cord and getting my first Dyson vacuum this sale. I’ve narrowed it down to the v15 and v12 sold by Costco (so I have access to the flexible return policy if all goes awry), but the biggest factor holding me back from the v15 is the weight difference.

My understanding is v15 is more powerful, slightly better battery life and bin capacity, and comes with more attachments. However, v15 is around 15lbs and the v12 is around 5lbs.

In Canada, v15 is on sale for $780 and v12 for $675 so not a huge difference.

I live in a ranch-style house with a carpet upstairs, carpet stairs, and hard floors for the foyer and downstairs (with a rug here and there) so it’s pretty 50/50. I will also be using a central vacuum, and emptying the bin more isn’t a huge deal to me.

Which did you pick and why? Did the weight of the v15 keep you back? Is one more reliable than the other? Is it even worth going for the v15?

Have a dyson v12. Long story short, i rent a house to a friend, we essentially traded places so we have a bigger house closer to family with a new baby while they were ready to leave and get a cool smaller house in downtown denver.

To make moving less difficult we traded some stuff too, including cordless vaccuum. Said they didn’t like the one they had, when i found out it was a dyson v12 i was like… are you sure? The trade was a $100 shark i’d got for a little apartment, which admittedly worked pretty well. They said dyson clogs all the time and were happy to get rid of it.

Now i have this dyson, i previously had a v7 and remember loving it (went to my mom because she liked it so much). However this v12… it sounds like a jet engine and runs out of battery faster than the others, and it does get clogged all the time. I never had issues with the others getting clogged but it seems to happen almost every time i use it.

I googled to see if other people didn’t like it but all the reviews are like, “all vacuums pale in comparison to this godly creation dyson has so graciously blessed us with.”

I also only get information about a newer looking model (gold, slim, smart detect) which mine is not. It looks like the v11 to me but the model says sv12.

What am I missing here? Am I doing something wrong?
