I’ve owned many mid to high end brand of vacuums from Hoover, shark, rainbow etc and the Dyson V15 made me enjoy cleaning again, the laser really does detect any dirt or hair that is hanging around …..my only issue is for the price the battery should last way longer and I also bought a used one for 50$ that was labeled non working and all that was wrong with it , was it had a pretty big hair clog in it!!!! #review

What setting are you using it on? I also have the v-15 detect and on eco (with the laser brush) I can get upwards of 70 minutes. On medium it’s about 30-40. If I’m using the carpet head that’s about half on both modes ( I have pretty thick carpets so it take a bit more)

V15 suction is adaptive to how much dirt it picks up. Dirty house = more suction = less battery. Either that or your battery is dying

I'm looking to buy the Dyson V15 which is currently on sale here in Canada. But the names of the models and what's included is driving me insane. I'm just looking at getting the best with the money spent and more accessories would be great as well since we have a newborn at home and looking to vacuum possibly everything as it can get dusty where I live. Can you please tell me the difference in the models below as I'm very confused. Thank you so much in advance! :) p.s. I'm aware Dyson isn't the best cordless stick vac out there but we're willing to replace the battery and buy new after a few years.

Dyson V15 Detect Plus has 2 powerheads, crevice tool, mini dusting brush, and hair screw tool. Dyson V15 Detect has 2 powerheads, crevice tool, combo tool, and hair screw tool. Dyson V15 Detect Total Clean Extra has 2 powerheads, crevice tool, combo tool, mini dusting brush, hair screw tool. Additionally it has a stubborn dirt brush, mattress tool, up top adapter, and flexi crevice tool. That makes #3 the easy choice especially if you already have a Costco membership. A few tips: The Dyson V10-V15 are quite bulky and can get heavy in the hand. If you want a lighter weight check out the V8 and V12 Detect Slim. I don't like to use the tools for too long because holding a cordless vacuum for dusting is heavy and bulky, so you might want to get a canister vacuum if you like to do a lot of furniture and upholster cleaning. A canister's hose and tools are much lighter and more maneuverable. If you have carpets or large rugs you'll want to have a corded vacuum with a carpet powerhead/brushroll for weekly deep cleaning, cordless vacuums are good for daily cleaning but still don't have the suction power, move the air volume, and agitate the carpet well enough to fully replace corded vacuums. The Dyson V15 has the suction power but not the air volume or carpet agitation. Hope that helps.

I was considering Miele C3, but now gravitating toward Dyson V15 Detect Absolute.
Can someone explain why Miele C3 might be a better choice? Is Dyson V15 Detect Absolute fully sealed? I see in their description that it has HEPA filter, but is it fully sealed?

So stick Vacuums in any of the Dyson stick vacuums are meant for quick pickups. They don't have the power or capacity to be your only vacuum. The C3 is a full size canister designed to get your whole house clean. On top of that significantly more powerful than the Dyson. There's also filtration the C3 is one of the best filtering portable vacuums out there. The Dyson V10-v15 design has really loose tolerances on the HEPA therefore that filter will need to be changed very regularly. There's also the hole not having to go outside and empty your vacuum every time you use it. Bags are better. Then there's longevity the Miele C3 is made in Germany and designed to last a thousand working hours or 20 years. Dyson says 2-4 years on there stick vacuums.

September 17, 2025 - On test, my main reviewer got about 18 minutes of power from the V15 on Boost mode, and 15 minutes from the Gen5detect on a hard floor, although just eight minutes on carpet. Note that the Boost mode is more powerful on the newer model, which means it should be more efficient at cleaning. Times in Auto mode will vary, based on how dirty your floors are and whether you're cleaning mostly hard floors or carpet. Recharge times also vary. Dyson quotes 4 hours 30 mins for both machines, but my tester found the V15 could take up to 5 hours, whereas charging the Gen5detect from flat took just three hours.

So about a year ago i got a v15 detect absolute as a replacement for an old Miele.
I'll start with the good things:
Its extremely good a picking up dirt on every surface, i especially like the fluffy head with the laser light. Looks very aesthetic and the battery is also very, very impressive somehow it last 2 hours on auto mode.
But it fell super cheap. Constantly creaking, the parts don't snap into place nicely, sometimes i have to use a lot of force. Scratches and clogs easily and looks like its been through more than my 15 year old Miele! I clean it thoroughly often and treat it as gently as possible yet i dont see it lasting more that 2-3 years.
Where's the quality? Is everyone experiencing this and just overlooking it because of the brand name?
Any input is helpful.

The way I see it is that Dyson vacuums have such a large following and they also hold a certain value where people will opt to repair them. This value makes for a healthy market of aftermarket and used parts. I see it similar to iPhones. Just search on Aliexpress and you can pretty much build a vacuum from used and aftermarket parts, it is not cost effective compared to a used one but it is available. Anyone with curiosity and a bit of mechanical aptitude can take these things apart with a philips and a torx screwdriver. Take care of them, don’t drop them, wash the rollers and brush heads, and clean the dust bin and cyclone and it should last.

This is how dysons are yes, shiny plastic, wobbly joints, small clips that can fail, even the motors and circuit boards can fail before the 5 year mark. And getting spare parts is increasingly difficult even under warranty. Thats the price of cordless convenience, they're more like a smartphone than a vacuum in terms of repairability and warranty support. 3 to 5 years is a pretty average lifespan for the cordless models. Goes for most brands really, but yes you'd hope the premium prices dyson charge would get you higher reliability.

With Dyson, the different models basically just refer to the included accessories. Think of them as packages, rather than models. The machine itself is always the same between the various models in that line (but could be different colors). The V15 and V15 Absolute are both the exact same machine. Only difference is the color, filter, and included accessories. The V15 Absolute has: Gold machine / gold wand / gold brush bar A blue HEPA filter based on EU standards - filters down to 0.1 microns Quick-clean wand 4 accessories The V15 has: Yellow machine / nickel wand / nickel brush bar A purple HEPA filter based on US standards - filters down to 0.3 microns. (Dyson doesn't advertise it as HEPA anymore since it's no longer considered HEPA in the EU.) 5 accessories The "First Generation" you seen is simply just referring to the original Absolute "package". It has the older fluffy head, but has a lot more accessories (9 accessories). The machine itself is the exact same as these...there are no different generations with the V15 machine. The v15 absolute is the same as the v15. The absolute version is just a special color way that’s only available when you buy directly from Dyson. The latest model is the gen5 outside/detect
