The V15 Detect Absolute is $100 off on Dyson’s website. What am I missing on these two vacuums?
I was hoping to get the V15 on a Prime discount.
Why is the Absolute $100 off?
What’s the difference in the V15 Absolute and the V15?
Is the V15 Absolute the latest model? I noticed last week they had the “1st Generation” at $100 off, which I no longer see offered on the website.
Trying to decide whether the Gen5detect is worth the additional $200USD over the V15 detect absolute. Down to these two since they both include the built in tools and HEPA filtration (both improved from base V15 detect). Differences on Gen5 seem to be: (+) better light for showing dust (+) better battery (+) more suction (+) shows on display if area is clean (+/-) no trigger…not sure if good or bad (-) heavier by ~1lb
Those who have used…do these changes represent +$200 in value over the previous state of the art?

Can someone explain if there is any difference between the two? The absolute version appears to be $150 more expensive so I can't see it being significantly better...though it is out of stock whereas the total clean isn't out of stock
I’m currently in need of a replacement vacuum, long story short I have had a v8 and loved it and damaged the housing of that and a v10 due to multiple drops because we weren’t allowed to screw things into the wall so I couldn’t mount it. I’ve learned my lesson and I’ve gone months without a vacuum. Our current place is all hardwood floors and tiles on one level abt 1900sqft, whenever we buy a home hopefully in the next year or two I will assume there will be carpet in the bedrooms. Do I go for another V8 since it’s on sale for under $300? The new version on the stain website comes with a fluffy head for hard floors that I didn’t have before and desperately need. The v15 is currently on sale for $499 which is the lowest price I’ve seen for it, I’m just not sure if it’s worth the extra $200. We loved our v8 and while the v10 was fine it also didn’t have a soft head for hard floors and it didn’t really wow me one way or the other. I remember being amazed at the v8 probably because it was used on carpet then but still it was a great vacuum!
I was considering Miele C3, but now gravitating toward Dyson V15 Detect Absolute.
Can someone explain why Miele C3 might be a better choice? Is Dyson V15 Detect Absolute fully sealed? I see in their description that it has HEPA filter, but is it fully sealed?
Hi,
I am in New Zealand and would like advice on which vacuum cleaner would be the best. Currently, the Gen5 Detect Complete is on sale for NZ$995, while the V15S Detect Submarine compete is priced at NZ$999. I'm confident the V15 Detect Absolute will go on sale before the end of the year, likely for around NZ$945, as it did in November.
Since all three models are available at a similar price, I'm wondering which one would be the best choice. My downstairs open-plan area has laminated flooring, but all other areas are carpeted. While a mop feature would be nice, my priority is the best vacuuming performance.

I am at a crossroads between these two models. I am inching towards Gen5 Detect only because it has a brighter laser, on/off button, and slightly stronger suction.
However, I've come across some posts stating that the V15 Detect Absolute now has the same laser as the Gen5 Detect? Can anyone confirm and point to an official source? If this is the case, I may just save the few hundred dollars and go for the V15 Detect Absolute.
Thank you all!
We’re looking to buy our first cordless Dyson, but I’m so confused with their product naming practices and the website is not helpful at all.
What is the difference between the two? I understand that the Absolute variant comes with more accessories, but isn’t Detect Plus the newer model with a more advanced filtration system (the blue HEPA filter)? If so, why is the suction power of the latter lower (230 vs 240 of the non-plus)?
And one more question: is the fluffy roller really worth the extra money? We mostly have hard floors in our house and a golden retriever, does it pick up hair better than the standard extension or is it mostly a gimmick?

Thank you.
So about a year ago i got a v15 detect absolute as a replacement for an old Miele.
I'll start with the good things:
Its extremely good a picking up dirt on every surface, i especially like the fluffy head with the laser light. Looks very aesthetic and the battery is also very, very impressive somehow it last 2 hours on auto mode.
But it fell super cheap. Constantly creaking, the parts don't snap into place nicely, sometimes i have to use a lot of force. Scratches and clogs easily and looks like its been through more than my 15 year old Miele! I clean it thoroughly often and treat it as gently as possible yet i dont see it lasting more that 2-3 years.
Where's the quality? Is everyone experiencing this and just overlooking it because of the brand name?
Any input is helpful.
I've been waiting for black friday(ish) to finally get a V15 but I can't decide which to go with? i'm not sure if the extra accessories from costco are worth it. Any advice on which one to go with?
My use case is a cramped 2 bedroom apartment. This would be my primary vacuum. I don’t have space for more than 1 vacuum.
Is the v15 worth the extra $300? Is refurbished a bad idea? Or should I get out of my comfort zone and get that Miele vacuum on Amazon for $280?
Saw the "first generation" on sale for $600 after $200 off.

The "normal" (latest?) is $750.

The only difference between the two seems to be the HEPA designation in the link. The actual description of the HEPA filter and testing caveat is exactly the same.
So what is the difference between these two versions?
The filter is actually the same. The "first generation" says HEPA elsewhere on the page. Dyson only has purple and blue filters. Purple is HEPA based on US standards (but Dyson no longer advertises this); blue is HEPA based on EU standards (and also meets US standards).
The only differences are with the attachments...
The "first generation" includes 8 attachments (9 if you count the wand clip), but has the old "Laser Slim Fluffy" head. It's not as bright as the newer version. Some people have said they basically need to vacuum in the dark or with blinds/curtains closed.
The other one has 4 attachments and has the new brighter "Fluffy Optic" head, which is much easier to see during the day. You can also select a free cleaning kit when you add it to your cart for an additional 3 attachments.
So the machines are the same there is a redesign on the laser head also if it's the first gen it's going to come with more tools
How do I know so much ?
Guess where I work 😁
Hey everyone,
I’m currently trying to decide between the Dyson V15 Detect Total Clean Extra (most additional attachments) and the Dyson Gen5 Detect absolutely. The catch is — both are priced the same at Canada, and I’m genuinely confused about which one offers better value.
Moving to a 5b 3ba house with a full carpet basement and genuinely confused if the extra power in the Gen 5 is superior for cleaning over V15 with all tools.
Currently looking at these 2 options.
Leaning more towards the v15 as I have a long haired dog who sheds a lot. House is 2000 square feet mostly LVP so not much carpet.
My main concern is the v15 will outperform cleaning up hair. If the v12 is just fine for that I wouldn’t mind it especially for 200 dollars less. However I don’t mind spending the money on a v15 if the performance is really that worth it.
I’m also wondering if the hair screw tool performs really well on fabric furniture and such. If it performs the same between v12 and 15 that could definitely sway me more.
Not really worried about emptying bins or triggers vs buttons.
Any input would be welcome or if anyone knows how to get a discount for the v15. I never post on Reddit and am on mobile so sorry if this formatting sucks. It is what it is.
I only have the V15 Absolute and used the hair screw tool on fabric furniture. It works exceptionally well.
Since I have recently bought it and it is my first Dyson product I was shocked and ashamed at the amount of dirt/dust it sucked up from my sofa. I was only expecting to pick the cat hair that was visible on it but I literally filled the bin three quarters to full with fine dust (which I'm 99% percent was saturated with dust-mites) the first time I used it on that sofa. All that dust must have been deeply embedded but because the screw tool vibrates the fabric and the soft material underneath it it must have pulled all the dust to the surface and sucked it in.
I now can barely see with the naked eye some dust at the bottom of the bin when I use it on the same use sofa, which proves it deeply cleaned it.
Can't speak of the v12 since haven't used it.
The V15 was on sale last week and the V12 wasn’t. Just wait a couple weeks and they’ll probably switch the discount around again.
Edit: pretty sure the V15 was $599 with the discount last week. So not much more than the V12 now if you can wait.
I'm a bit confused about the difference between these two machines. I bought the Absolute when it came out in the UK about 4 weeks ago but about 2 weeks after that the Complete was released at the same price. I thought the only difference was that the Complete included the light pipe crevice tool.
After seeing a post here about some German models, I dug a bit deeper and I see that the Absolute is about 250g heavier has 10AW more but is listed as "whole machine filtration" while the Complete says "HEPA whole machine filtration". I contacted Dyson for clarification but I did not receive any.
I'm not sure if I should return the Absolute for the Complete instead as I'm still within the 35 day return period for another week. Any thoughts?
Long short story, we wanted to get the top of the line product as our first gift after the wedding.
According to our local site, the Detect Absolute was the one, but now I‘ve seen that the Detect Extra is the “top” of the line.
Are we missing much by going with the Detect Absolute one, though? The differences seem to be the “HEPA” filter and one extra accessory.
Thanks!
Hello everyone!
I just found this almost brand-new Dyson V15 Detect Absolute for sale on the FB marketplace, and I'd like to know if it's real or fake.
It seems to be an EU model, and it only includes:
Fluffy Optic™ cleaner head
Crevice/combination tool
Docking station
Digital Motorbar™ cleaner head
Shouldn't it also include the hair screw tool, wand clip and low-reach adaptor?
What seems most suspicious to me is the "Digital Motorbar cleaner head", which says "Anti-tangle comb" and has a purple roller. Is it supposed to be like that? I searched the internet and did a Google reverse image search, but I couldn't find anything resembling the one on the sales post. What do you guys think?
I appreciate any help you guys can provide. Thanks!
I bought a V15 Absolute directly from Dyson to replace an old V8. I loved the V8 so I was quite excited when I ordered the V15. My wife and I HATE THIS THING. It clogs ALL the time, the variable suction seems to never be right for the application and we miss our old V8. We are probably going to sell it and get something else. We were Dyson evangelists based on the V8 but we both are so so so disappointed in the V15.
