r/dyson on Reddit: The difference between V15 Detect and V15 Detect Plus
April 29, 2023 -

We’re looking to buy our first cordless Dyson, but I’m so confused with their product naming practices and the website is not helpful at all.

What is the difference between the two? I understand that the Absolute variant comes with more accessories, but isn’t Detect Plus the newer model with a more advanced filtration system (the blue HEPA filter)? If so, why is the suction power of the latter lower (230 vs 240 of the non-plus)?

And one more question: is the fluffy roller really worth the extra money? We mostly have hard floors in our house and a golden retriever, does it pick up hair better than the standard extension or is it mostly a gimmick?

Thank you.

People also ask

Is the Dyson V15 Detect vacuum effective at removing pet hair?
Yes, the Dyson V15 Detect vacuum can be used with the detangling Motorbar cleaner head and the anti-tangle Dyson Hair screw tool attachment. Both are specifically engineered to remove pet hair and long hair with ease, without tangling.

r/dyson on Reddit: V15 Detect vs. V15 Detect Absolute
May 24, 2023 -

The V15 Detect Absolute is $100 off on Dyson’s website. What am I missing on these two vacuums?

I was hoping to get the V15 on a Prime discount.

Why is the Absolute $100 off?

What’s the difference in the V15 Absolute and the V15?

Is the V15 Absolute the latest model? I noticed last week they had the “1st Generation” at $100 off, which I no longer see offered on the website.

With Dyson, the different models basically just refer to the included accessories. Think of them as packages, rather than models. The machine itself is always the same between the various models in that line (but could be different colors). The V15 and V15 Absolute are both the exact same machine. Only difference is the color, filter, and included accessories. The V15 Absolute has: Gold machine / gold wand / gold brush bar A blue HEPA filter based on EU standards - filters down to 0.1 microns Quick-clean wand 4 accessories The V15 has: Yellow machine / nickel wand / nickel brush bar A purple HEPA filter based on US standards - filters down to 0.3 microns. (Dyson doesn't advertise it as HEPA anymore since it's no longer considered HEPA in the EU.) 5 accessories The "First Generation" you seen is simply just referring to the original Absolute "package". It has the older fluffy head, but has a lot more accessories (9 accessories). The machine itself is the exact same as these...there are no different generations with the V15 machine. The first generation Absolute model/package can be found here, but is not on sale anymore: https://www.dyson.com/vacuum-cleaners/cordless/v15/detect/absolute-gold Also, the V15 line is no longer the latest model. That would be the new Gen5detect line.

The v15 absolute is the same as the v15. The absolute version is just a special color way that’s only available when you buy directly from Dyson. The latest model is the gen5 outside/detect

May 1, 2025 - I’m officially saying goodbye to my V8 Animal+. The V15 Detect Absolute isn’t Dyson’s most advanced stick vacuum, nor is it the cheapest, but it strikes an impressive balance of power, convenience, and versatility. r/dyson on Reddit: Gen5detect vs. V15 detect absolute
July 28, 2023 -

Trying to decide whether the Gen5detect is worth the additional $200USD over the V15 detect absolute. Down to these two since they both include the built in tools and HEPA filtration (both improved from base V15 detect). Differences on Gen5 seem to be: (+) better light for showing dust (+) better battery (+) more suction (+) shows on display if area is clean (+/-) no trigger…not sure if good or bad (-) heavier by ~1lb

Those who have used…do these changes represent +$200 in value over the previous state of the art?

The V15 actually has the same brighter "Fluffy Optic" head as the Gen5 now, so that is no longer a difference or a pro for the Gen5. (The old version was called "Laser Slim Fluffy".) Regarding more suction power, the Gen5's 262 AW (air watts) and the V15's 230 AW are based on "Boost" mode, which only lasts five minutes, bad for the long-term battery health, and is meant to be used sparingly. I would be curious to know how much more suction (if any) is seen when using Auto/Med or Eco mode. Also, more suction isn't always "better". Reviews have shown the V15 cleans just as good as the Gen5 , if not better. I don't mind the trigger. It's easy to hold and let go when I'm picking things up or moving around, which helps save the battery. Of course you could just press the button too, but it's not as seamless as the trigger since you need to use both hands (one to hold the vacuum and the other to press the button). Say you need to move stuff around...with the V15, just let go of trigger while you move things with your other hand; with the Gen5, push the button, move things, push the button. That may sound a bit nitpicky, but I know others have said the same thing. You can get a trigger lock on Amazon if you do get tired of having to hold it in. Sure, the battery is better, but only by 10 minutes (70 mins vs. 60 mins). I've never had any issues with the battery running low on my V15. Using the fluffy head lasts a long time for me...and even longer if I use Eco mode. The particle counter counting down on the Gen5 to show if an area is clean seems neat, but the same thing can be accomplished on the V15 too...just look to see when the bars slow down or stop moving. Personally, I think the best deal is the V15 at Costco for $560 when it's on sale (which it currently is). It comes with 10 attachments, including the new/brighter Fluffy Optic head. You can buy the HEPA filter ( $30 ) and quick-clean wand ( $40 ) separately if you are really wanting those. You'd essentially have the Absolute model with a ton more accessories for far less than Dyson's offering. Based on Costco's pricing, you may have to ask yourself...is the Gen5 worth it for $400 more? (Or is the V15 Absolute from Dyson worth $200 more?) It is a subjective question, only you will be able to decide how much you want to pay for what you get.

This is a tough one. I bought the Costco V15 Detect on a promotion ($140 off, or $550 w/o taxes) and then the Gen5Detect at BestBuy for their membership price of $898, so a difference of $348. But I had both to compare—and return. Here’s what I found and decided: First, they are both excellent vacuums. If you get the V15, you will not be unhappy (unless you hate that trigger pull - I personally don’t like it but it’s not a deal killer either). Suction and cleaning-wise, you will get an excellent result from both. But here’s the math in my head. How much would I pay for the extra suction? $100? OK. How much for the better HEPA filtration? $100? OK. Anything else? Yes, one killer feature and it may not seem like much, and it’s a simple design feature - the Gen5Detect stick detaches into a corner cleaning tool. That simple feature saves me time not having to switch out attachments when I’m cleaning. Time saved for me is well worth more than $100. If you’re psyching yourself out and emotionally want the Gen5Detect, consider that. Ultimately it’s subjective, but I chose to go with the Gen5Detect. I still feel like I burned a few extra bucks but I’m not regretting it if I consider that this will last me many years.
