Hi guys.
We've got a Dyson V8 Absolute that now only works for a short while before the battery dies, so I'm looking for a replacement.
Is it recommended to get an actual Dyson brand battery, or are there any safe (less expensive) options available?
Any specific recommendations you might have? If it helps, here's the info from our current battery:
BATTERY PACK 6-CELL (215681) 6INR21/70-1
SV10
21.6V
2800mAh
65Wh
Thanks in advance! 🙂
Dyson V8/SV10.... 15 mo ago i got an OEM replacement battery direct from Dyson, but it's already dead (it only flashes red a few times then nothing). I's prefer to not give them another $130 (esp since it's not our 'daily driver' vac anymore), but so many people here say to avoid 3rd party. I thought about replacing the cells but then reading about BMS auto-locks. So what do i do?
Are there any 'ok' 3rd party recommendations y'all can offer me? or any other ideas?
I actually just spent 45 min on the phone w Dyson support (thinking it was covered under a 2 year warranty) apparently not. And not sure why i needed 44 minutes to be told that.
btw do their batteries have a 'use it or lose it' aspect to them? Do they last longer when exercised regularly?
EDIT: ended up ordering one from Amazon "POWTREE Upgraded 6000mAh V8 SV10 Battery 215681 Replacement Compatible with Dyson V8" for $40. So far so good.

I am disappointed that the battery on my V8 Animal is already dead after 2.8 years. I use it only as a backup (aka light use). Seems like power tool batteries last much longer under much more heavy use.
In any case, I need to replace the battery. There is the super expensive Dyson replacement and 3rd party Amazon's. Looked at some reviews. Is there any reason no to pick a 3rd party? Is there a known incident of a 3rd party pack to go up in flames? Frankly, this would be the only reason for me not to go with 3rd party.
Hello, I have the v8 absolute pro and the battery was getting weak. I bought a replacement that said it fits the v8 pro and all v8s. However when I tried replacing it doesn't fit and the top part looks different to the original. I then looked online for another and in the picture they all look like the replacement head top not the original shape. Even the pictures of the genuine dyson replacement looks the same shape as the replacement on the right and I cannot anywhere find a battery that has the same shape as my original one. Please help. I'm very confused.
I recently bought my MIL a Dyson V8 Origin Vacuum Refurbished, but from the official Dyson store. I'm guessing it comes with a new, or at least good, tested battery. She loves the vacuum besides the battery life.
Dyson doesn't advertise the specs of their batteries, only in minutes. I did a chat with Dyson and got an answer - unfortunately I cannot find where I saved it, but I believe I was told the battery was 2800mAh.
I see Amazon/eBay listings for compatible batteries that are the same voltage but 9Ah and 9000mAh. Can this be right? They made a battery that is more than 3 times the original battery's capacity? Is it bigger?
BTW I did search but didn't find this exact answer, but the common theme of don't buy these batteries and burn your loved ones houses down.
Trying to find the right replacement battery for our V8. Dyson online quoted the wrong one. Does anyone know which one we need? See photos.
Thank you in advance.
Bought a v8 from Dyson refurbished in 2019 and the battery is finally at a level where it’s not usable anymore. The vacuum doesn’t have the same suction that it used to - so I am wondering if it is in fact the battery degradation or if the unit itself has reached end of life.
Should I replace the battery with a new OE or get a new unit?
Hi, I have an old V8 dyson vacuum cleaner. But now the battery is off. Do you think it's worth it to buy a replacement battery? I saw it on official website it cost $129 but I could find cheaper ones on amazon. Is it original?
Thanks!
The red light is blinking four times which indicates a replacement required. Could someone please help me figure out which third-party battery I can buy as I’m a bit confused and I think the slim model battery is different to the standard and can’t find it anywhere. We have a Dyson V8 slim fluffy. This is the photo of the details on the back.
I’m doing my research right now to either replace v8 with new v10/v12. Or should I continue to replace the battery. This is the second time I replace the battery. With Max option, the vacuum only last less than 5min. Used v8 for almost 4 years
Hey folks, Is the V8 known to have terrible battery life? My first battery lasted maybe 5-10 min. Since the day I started using it. Got a replacement battery... same thing. Tried both max power and normal.
Are these vacuums supposed to just last a couple of minutes after each full charge?
thanks!
This is absolutely bonkers. I've been gaslighted by Dyson for 8 months about the unavailability of a warranty replacement battery. I'm totally dumbfounded that this company can't produce spare batteries in an 8 month period. Who runs this place?
Buy new V8, swap batteries, return new V8

I have an older Dyson stick (V7 maybe)? I need to buy a new battery. Last time I bought a knock off battery because it was cheaper, but I am not sure if it was worth it. Should I buy an actual Dyson replacement battery or go for a cheaper one?
We’ve had the V8 for around 5 years now with pretty infrequent use on the lowest setting.
Recently it’s held less of a charge (doesn’t seem to last more than 10 mins) and doesn’t charge up all the way. It’ll blink from the first bar to the second and then shut off after some time but never show a full charge.
Took a look at both filters and they seem pretty clean although I’ve never replaced them.
Time for a new battery?
Also, how do y’all feel about generic batteries? Are they just as good, or should I go with Dyson brand only? TIA
My V8's battery seems to be failing. Basically it'll start clicking on and off when I try use it and then stop entirely after 10s or so. I have completely taken it apart and cleaned it so it is not a block. I suspect the battery is just dead.
So 3 weeks ago I did my research - some third party sellers were selling non-OEM parts for €60 + approx €20 shipping. Lead times were 3 weeks and coming from China.
OEM Dyson replacement was in stock on their website and delivery was free and the delivery time is 3-5 days. Cost was €78. So no brainer to buy officialy (which I've never done before, third parties have always been reliable in the past for Dyson parts for me).
Fastforward to today. 3 weeks later. I got the Order Confirmation email, but no follow up about dispatch or any further communication. Their webchat does not seem to work. So I call. Keep getting told by the switchboard to try the webchat for faster resolution. Eventually get through to someone- they don't want my order number for some reason and ask for my name and address instead. I have to phoenitically spell out my name and address which takes like 5 minutes - no idea why they couldn't search by Order Number.
Eventually they find my order, put me on mute and are gone for 20m. They come back to say it's not in stock and I should just watch their website for the next few weeks and when it is back in stock I just call them and ask them to send me one of the instock units.
I'll continue down this road I guess because I'd rather an OEM part. But 2 more weeks and I'll be getting a refund and buying from China.
Dyson are a joke.
We purchased a Dyson V8 Absolute 3 years ago. It was great but out of nowhere developed an incredibly short battery life. In the normal mode, it would go for maybe 10 minutes. In Boost mode it would last less than a minute.
We reached out to Dyson and even though it was well out of warranty, they provided us with a replacement battery. We swapped in the new battery, and the vacuum has the same issue.
Has anyone experienced this that might have advice about what may be wrong with it? I'm fine with tearing it down and replacing parts, I'm just not sure what to try next. Thanks in advance.

Since you said you're fine tearing it down that's where I would start. Do a full teardown and cleaning to make sure it's as factory fresh as possible. Wash and dry most everything and use compressed air where necessary. It could be a connection issue up inside the handle where the battery terminates. Get up in there with isopropyl alcohol on a long q-tip or paper towel and make sure the connection terminals are shiny and spotless.

Looking at the reviews of the Dyson V8 absolute, many are complaining about the battery. Before making a purchase, wonder if it’s really bad or just isolated cases.
Thanks.
