Hi all, as title says I'm not entirely sure what I've bought. Wanted to get a V8 animal to clean up after the dogs and when I spoke to the sales people at the shops they also parroted back that it was an animal but the box doesn't say animal anywhere. I've looked at a bunch of marketing material online for the V8 2022 which kind of implies that it's the same machine but I was under the impression the animal was a bit more durable than the standard Really appreciate any help/advice as I'm feeling a bit irritated if I've been lied to. I do not think the V8 is worth even the discounted price. Had one and sold it. Got a Samsung Jet 90 and it works waaay better. Much longer battery life and so much better suction. Neither compare in cleaning to my new Sebo Felix Premium but since you're looking for a cordless,I'd look elsewhere. Just my opinion.

The V8 absolute and V8 animal have the same power. The V8 Absolute has more accessories and is at the same level for pet hair than the Animal version
The V8 absolute is more complete, the V8 animal can be sufficient if you only need it for pet hair

The V8 Absolute is what you want without a doubt. Not only does the V8 Absolute come with the hardwood (or non carpeted) floor attachment that works absolutely phenomenal, but it also comes with another attachment for upholstery and other services specifically made for animal fur. It lasts, on average, 20 minutes longer on full battery charge than the V8 Animal and you would end up paying as much for the V8 Absolute anyways by the time you were done ordering attachments for it.
Exact reason I bought the Absolute over the Animal and would not even think about returning it as its the best vacuum I have ever used!

Might be a general question but let me expand on it.
I've been watching a lot of vacuum wars and it came down to the budget Larasar option or a secondhand Dyson. I opened up offerup and saw someone selling their Dyson V8 animal plus for $50. They said it works well but the battery is not holding a charge long enough to clean their house. I went for it. It was a bit dirty but I spent an hour and a half taking it apart and cleaning it up. It runs about 6 minutes before it dies. Is it worth getting a new battery? Or should a relist and look for another one? Or go with my budget option. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!

If you are worried about batteries for the v8 you can get them on amazon for like $30 Don't run it on max mode. That is like doing a burnout. It might need a new battery if the previous owner abused max mode. Only use it for high dirt load messes and high traffic walkways. Let the tools do the work. vacuum slower and make more passes or vac every day. Use the right tool for the job. Use your fluffy roller on hard floors and use your motorhead on carpet. If you are having suction issues, some compressed air and new filters will do it good.

I’d likely get a canister, but it’s not something my girlfriend really wants to use. Our apartment is all hardwood and some tile in the bathroom.
Mostly dust and hair, no large particles lingering around in our house. A couple of dogs, but they don’t shed. With a coupon from BB&B, I can snag it for $320 ($342 with tax).

Dyson’s got some refurb V8s for $200 on their official eBay store, so I’d suggest going that route if you really want one. A Dyson stick vac’s lifespan will be less than half that of an equally priced Miele/Numatic canister, which is why I don’t think they’re a great value for the money.

Cordless vacuums are great for quick pickups but you'll still need to get a full size vacuum to deal with the rest of the debris. I'd recommend bringing your other half to a local store and having her try some of them and see what fits both of you. After just using my Dyson stick V8 for the zillionth time, I just have to rave. I'm not sure when I bought it and I'm not sure what I paid, but it is by far the best all-around vacuum I've ever had. The light weight, the ability to switch easily between regular and max. suction speeds, and the flexibility of the head and the various attachments make it very versatile. I use it on wood floors, rugs, and wall-to-wall carpet. The only thing I've ever had to replace are filters. The on-line videos about how to clean the various areas of the vacuum that get clogged up with fine dust are incredibly helpful. With that help, I've been able to keep the vacuum working well for years. I've never posted a Yelp review before and I can hardly believe that I'm doing it because I'm in love with a vacuum cleaner, but there it is. Hopefully, the newer models are as good as this one.

I agree with another comment I read on this subreddit once. “The best vacuum is the one you will enjoy using, suits your needs and meets your satisfactions”. Objectively, there are always better or worse items within their own ranks. Why use a Molotov cocktail when I could use a nuclear warhead? I’ve had Miele, Kirby, and have an older Dyson upright. They’re all great, for their specific use cases. I use my V8 to clean up behind my cat and do quick touch up’s behind the roborock. High dusting, blinds dusting, and vacuuming out the lint trap to my dryer.
