Do not buy a Dyson. I have bought an outsize and a v15 within the last year and both have given me problems. With the outsize the wheel fell off the brush-bar and they have been out of stock for 3 months. The v15 shuts off 5 seconds after pulling the trigger. Avoid them the customer service is awful. The only two parts I had to actually buy were the Cyclone (make sure you get the one for press filters, not star) and the Main Body (the bit with the motor) which cost a whopping 90 bucks with free shipping from Dyson. The rarest vital part on Vine was the dust bin so jump on those if you see one, even if it takes a month to ship. After that it's the extension wand. Motorized heads have been pretty common but you never know if that will remain constant and I recommend getting one for hardwood, another for carpet, and an interchangeable one with both to serve as a back up. Batteries can be found in abundance and usually come with filters. The post filter is the least common so grab one with that first. As far as non vital parts, I've only seen the hose and attachments set once but they only cost $20. The mini motorhead I've seen three of, but it was all at the same time and I haven't seen them before or after . . . and I've been searching 'Dyson' every day for the past couple of months. In fact, I just finished building a second one sans the hose/attachments and mini head. My sister is going to be ecstatic . . . in another six months, of course. Anyhow, this is definitely my favorite 'turning silver into gold' item so far considering that if I bought all of this from Dyson it would cost nearly $1500. A close second is my extra-fancy coffee bar (pictures forthcoming) and an entire full-sized bed plus premium bedding. Oh, right. There are some compatibility issues with aftermarket parts . . . but only with each other. You see the red bits that make them snap together? There are darker red ones that have a circle and an oval - and lighter red ones that have two circles. With the exception of the hose attachments and mini heads (which connect directly to the dust bin so it doesn't matter) try to go with one or the other.
