Dyson is over priced and over hyped poor quality. You're paying for the name and poor engineering. I bought a Miele C3 complete and haven't regretted it once in the year I've owned it super quiet and high powered and a way better warranty than a Dyson Answer from sapper4lyfe on reddit.com

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Help. Just got a Dyson v8 Origin. Right choice?
December 2, 2024 -

I only really have a few rooms in my house that are carpet and need cleaned. I paid $300 or so for it. It’s great but the “max” mode barely lasts to clean my few rooms. I couldn’t believe how much dust and hair and crap it sucked up though! Wow. Are there better vacuums for smaller areas that I can get for the same , or a cheaper, price? I just want something small , cordless, and easy to use so it’s not a “chore” to vacuum.

Hello, I am looking into buying a dyson v8. We just recently moved in so our apartment (65 square meters big) has only hard floors, but we plan to add some carpets later on. I see that the cheapest one where I live is a Dyson v8 origin, but I can not find any reviews for it or any threads on reddit. How different is it than absolute, motorhead and animal? Prices: - Origin 280 EUR - Absolute 350 EUR

Would it be worth to to for the absolute considering the price difference? Ty!

Dyson v12 is 550 EUR, is it worth the 200 EUR difference?

Dyson has the model V8 or V12 and then they all have several trims Origin, Absolute, Motorhead, and Animal. Origin is usually the base trim, Animal and Motorhead are middle trims, and Absolute usually includes the fluffy powerhead. Usually, the higher trims include more accessory tools. If I had all hard floors I would buy a Dyson V8 Absolute as long as it includes the fluffy powerhead because it does that much better on bare floors. The Dyson V12 has a bigger bin but isn't that much better. In the U.S. LG and Samsung cordless vacuums are better values usually including 2 batteries and a charging stand for the same price as a Dyson but the availability and value of LG and Samsung may be very different in your country. Also if longevity and suction power is your top concern skip all cordless and get a corded bagged canister like Henry, Miele, or Sebo.

Dyson V8

Shark IZ862H

This will be a gift for my mom, they have a mostly carpet house, but the kitchen, bathrooms and entry way are hardwood. I'd say its about 75/25 carpet. They have two dogs, neither shed excessively. Allergies are not a significant issue.

At my house we have an old Dyson cordless one and my mom likes it, so I'd like to get her something similar as a gift. This will be her first cordless vacuum.

I see reviews comparing the IZ862H to the $1,000 Dyson, but my girlfriend is adamant about Dyson being the way to go.

The Shark is about 60$ more, so my question is if the Shark is worth it? Or should I go with the Dyson? Or is there one I'm not considering that would be far better in a similar price range?

Thanks :)

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Considering the Dyson v8 for a home/car vacuum
May 29, 2023 -

Hey everyone we are looking to upgrade from our cheap Chinese Dyson knock stick vacuum. We also have a plug in wet vac as well that doesn’t work great. And a shop vac that generally isn’t easy to get out of its storage location so it isn’t used much and won’t be until we get a new house.

We have a house 2 story house with half carpet and half hardwood floor. Most of the time we are only vacuuming the hardwood floors and one small area rug.

We have a 2 year old and a dog. Our dog doesn’t shed much so dog hair is not a major problem. we are mainly trying to vacuum up goldfish and other snacks from our child. At the same time we would want this to be a battery powered vacuum so we can quick clean up our cars from food that was spilled. As a bonus a wet vacuum feature would be nice but I know that may be unrealistic all in one vacuum.

We were considering a Dyson v8 due to the portability until I saw this Reddit communities thoughts on Dyson. Budget isn’t a huge consideration but we do want a battery powered vacuum

Edit: we get our house professionally cleaned every 2 weeks so we don’t need a true “main” vacuum.

In the strongest possible terms, reconsider your cordless requirement. None of them are worth the money and you’ll be replacing it in a few years - especially the wet/dry units. Your best bet is a 2-unit setup. 1 main vacuum for weekly deep cleaning (corded/bagged) depending on budget - something like a Miele C1 Cat and Dog/ or a Miele C3 or a SEBO k3,e3 or a SEBO Felix. And an additional secondary vacuum for quick pickup jobs and the car (cordless/bagless) check the automod for recs there.

I continue to think that Dyson cordless vacuums are above-average but cost more than the competition and don't have as many worthwhile features like 2 removable batteries but instead come with gimmicks like dust sensors and lasers. Dyson V8s aren't bad but the lack of removable batteries means you are limited to 12-15 minutes on high per charge. The higher Dysons get removable batteries but only the overweight Outsize includes 2 batteries. I get the idea behind an automatic adjustment to conserve battery but a display is silly, I want it to pickup dust I don't need an expensive display to tell me about it. The hard floor-only laser is also silly, an led headlight for all surfaces would be better. For mostly hard floors I'd highly recommend the soft brushrolls, as long as they aren't delicate floors. I think the LG CordZero Kompressor is the best mix of features and price. It comes with 2 floor heads, 2 batteries, a charging stand, and this one comes with the accessory tool kit, which has more tools and a very useful hose to get into the tighter corners of car cleaning. The Samsung Jet 90 is a close second but I don't like that you have to remove the filter every time to empty the dirt cup. The Samsung Bespoke Jet has a weird dual brushroll where the front soft brushroll isn't powered, I don't like that you are still using the carpet brushroll on hard floors.

If this is your only vacuum or your primary vacuum a cordless vacuum will not cut it for carpets. Cordless vacuums do ok on hard floors and can lightly clean carpets but they do not have the suction and agitation to properly deep clean carpets. I'd suggest getting a corded vacuum for weekly deep cleaning and a cordless vacuum for lighter daily cleaning. The Dyson V8 is not bad, I think it's Dyson's peak in terms of performance and value. Are you in the U.S.? I wouldn't get a Dyson V8 Origin for $279 when the Dyson V8 Absolute is just $299. The V8 Absolute adds the fluffy cleaner head, a crevice tool, and the hair screw tool. The LG CordZero is pretty good too and it's a better value. The LG CordZero A912BM $298 comes with 2 batteries, a mini motorized brush, and a charging stand. The LG CordZero A938KBGS $398 comes with 2 batteries, 2 powerheads, and the self-emptying charging stand.

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: What makes the Dyson v8 a bad vacuum?
December 15, 2024 -

Hi everyone,

I bought a v8 hastily on the last day of Black Friday sales for 269€, as I was fed up with the state of my current vacuum canister, an inexpensive 700W Moulinex City Space. It has a broken combi head whose wheels are seized, which makes it impossible to drag it along the floor. As stupid as it sounds, I've thus been vacuuming hunched over with the bare hose for as long as I can remember.

I live in a 35 sqm (~380 sq. feet) apartment with exclusively hardwood flooring. I was hoping to try out the v8 before making up my mind, but the shop I bought it from doesn't offer returns once the packaging has been opened, so the box is just sitting in the corner of my living room until I decide what to do.

I read all of the recommandation and flow charts thread, but I still feel like I'm missing some important information, i.e. what features are desirable in a vacuum and why.

I'd say the important points for me regarding a vacuum would be:

  1. Ease of use

  2. Ease of maintenance

  3. Durability and/or repairability

The canister has given me entire satisfaction regarding 2 : I change the bag every once in a while and that's it. The same can be said for 3 (I've probably had that vacuum for the past 10 years), with the exception of the combi head of course, which I should have already replaced by now tbh. When it comes to 1, it being a PITA is probably mostly due to, again, not having a functioning head. However, having to unplug and replug it when moving from room to room doesn't make it a very smooth experience.

My thinking moving to a Dyson was that it being battery powered would increase ease of use significantly (compared to a canister): no need to unplug and replug, I could just vacuum my entire apartment in one fell swoop.
However, it seems, reading comments on here, that it would come at the expense of 2 and 3.

Is that really the case? What more would the maintenance entail compared to a bagged canister, and at which frequency? Do they break that often? Replacement parts (including batteries) seem to be available though.

Thanks for your help!

After just using my Dyson stick V8 for the zillionth time, I just have to rave. I'm not sure when I bought it and I'm not sure what I paid, but it is by far the best all-around vacuum I've ever had. The light weight, the ability to switch easily between regular and max. suction speeds, and the flexibility of the head and the various attachments make it very versatile. I use it on wood floors, rugs, and wall-to-wall carpet. The only thing I've ever had to replace are filters. The on-line videos about how to clean the various areas of the vacuum that get clogged up with fine dust are incredibly helpful. With that help, I've been able to keep the vacuum working well for years. I've never posted a Yelp review before and I can hardly believe that I'm doing it because I'm in love with a vacuum cleaner, but there it is. Hopefully, the newer models are as good as this one.

I agree with another comment I read on this subreddit once. “The best vacuum is the one you will enjoy using, suits your needs and meets your satisfactions”. Objectively, there are always better or worse items within their own ranks. Why use a Molotov cocktail when I could use a nuclear warhead? I’ve had Miele, Kirby, and have an older Dyson upright. They’re all great, for their specific use cases. I use my V8 to clean up behind my cat and do quick touch up’s behind the roborock. High dusting, blinds dusting, and vacuuming out the lint trap to my dryer.

I do not recommend buying any used refurbished vacuums. The battery is the most common failure point both dying and wearing out. You may be getting a used battery with a refurbished vacuum. I wouldn't risk it. If you really want a Dyson V8, there's a brand new Dyson V8 Origin Plus $289. Or this LG CordZero A912PM $169. It doesn't come with a combo tool but it comes with a charging stand.

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Dyson V8 Origin Battery Life
November 23, 2024 -

I have Dyson V8 Origin that is about 1.5 years old. On regular mode the battery lasts about 5 minutes and on max it dies almost immediately (4-10 seconds at most). I stopped using it in favor of the shark stick we had for upstairs. I also have a Miele we use for most of our vacuuming, the stick is just a glorified broom. We are moving and I am gonna toss it unless someone has an idea of why it has such poor battery life.

The rechargeable batteries can wear out with time and use.  Using the vacuum on max mode and not letting the battery cool down before charging accelerate battery wear, but it can also be a matter of a bad battery. The Dyson has a 2 year warranty.  I would reach out to CS asap and get a replacement battery before the 2 year window is up.

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Will a Dyson V8 Absolute work for my situation?
September 13, 2023 -

Reading through this subreddit, I know many people recommend a corded vacuum as the main vacuum. That isn’t really an option for me as the way my apartment is struxtured, I’m not looking to plug and unplug constantly between switching between floors, and the location of plugs won’t work for my carpeted stairs.

Therefore, I’m looking for a cordless vacuum. I bought I believe a Black and Decker cordless about a year ago before I rescued two cats. It barely works now and started smoking the other day so it’s time for a new one!

Budget: under $200 is ideal, however I am willing to pay the extra money for this specific dyson model as it is on sale at my local department store.

Needs: my apartment is mostly carpeted, two levels, including the stairs is all carpet. My bathroom and tiny kitchen are both hardwood, so ideally something that can be used on both. I also plan for my next place to be no carpet at all, so the duality is a necessity for me. Lastly, I have two cats. Want something that works for pet hair and cat litter as well.

The dyson appeals to me for the filtration system as both of my cats have allergies, so the less dust the better. Is this a good investment? I also am looking at the two links below from Amazon that are a bit more in my budget. However, I’m willing to pay more $$$ now if it’ll save me in the long run with replacing these cheap machines annually. Also open to other model/brand suggestions if you have!

I think the thing is that a cordless definitely is not ideal for your situation. You will eventually run into the same problem with a Dyson and have spent a ton of money on it. Cordless vacuums are best for quick pick-ups and aren't very durable. The cat thing is especially concerning, Dysons do a pretty terrible job with getting pet dander out of carpets. I also wouldn't suck up cat litter with a bagless vacuum. I think your options are buy a Dyson and ruin it and have a subpar clean apartment. Buy cheap cordless vacuums, have a subpar clean apartment, and buy a new one every 6 months to a year after you destroy it lol. Or you could do what this sub recommends, get a bagged cannister, get a 15 foot hose extension, and make sure it had at least a 25 foot cord, have an actually clean carpet and keep the vacuum for 20 years. Miele, Henry, and Sebo could all do this for you. There are some unconventional options like getting a backpack vacuum but that's a way less practical than just a long cord and a lomg hose.

I completely understand why you want a cordless for your situation. Please avoid the Wlupel, Honiture, and other no-name cordless vacuums. You really get what you pay for. They usually have weak suction and their batteries wear out quickly, sometimes in less than a year. Also, whenever something breaks there are no parts or repairability. The Dyson V8 is an OK cordless vacuum, it is better than the Wlupel or Honiture for sure. Pros: Dyson makes replacement parts, higher quality than unknown brands, it's cordless, and it has a hepa filter. Cons: 7-8 minutes run time on max power, battery will wear out in 3-5 years, not the best for deep cleaning carpet, cyclone and bin build up odors, and when you empty a bagless vacuum dust is released back into the air. If you really want a cordless vacuum I think that other brands offer better value and easier maintenance. LG CordZero A9 A912PM $228, Samsung Jet 60 $199 are both cheaper and have easier to clean bins. The LG CordZero Kompressor A925KSM $379 comes with 2 batteries and a charging stand. For better carpet cleaning and better filtration I'd recommend the Kenmore Intuition BU4050 $161. This is not a BIFL 20 year vacuum, but it's small about the same width as a cordless vacuum, lightweight, more powerful than a cordless, and it uses hepa bags so you don't touch the mess and you don't release it back into the air. When I'm lazy and I use my cordless vacuum on carpet, it's ok, but then when I use a corded vacuum on my carpet it absolutely feels cleaner to my feet. It's your choice what to buy, I would highly recommend that you test any vacuum for your house thoroughly before your return window closes.

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: What are the thoughts on Dyson V7 and V8? And little review.
October 26, 2024 -

So I don’t have too much experiences with vacuums I had a few corded, upright, canister vacuums, and shop vacs. I obtained a Dyson V7 and V8 with dead batteries for free. So I bought 3rd party batteries on Amazon for pretty cheep and I used them mostly for tile floors and couches. Even though the batteries don’t last very long, I like the portability of the vacuums. They are light weight and I can fly around with them. They seem to take up a lot of hair and grit but don’t suck up anything big. Turbo mode works great but kills the battery quickly. Since I have two, I can just switch them out. My mother has a V15 and it seems much stronger with a better battery. The actual sticks and head seem fragile but I haven’t had any issues with them so far. I like how all the heads are interchangeable, so I don’t need a whole collection of different heads. What are your guys opinions on these models. Are they junk? What vacuums are a better option for hard wood or tile floors. I appreciate your guys input.

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Should I pull the trigger on a Dyson V8 absolute at $300 (maybe with a 20% discount)?
September 22, 2023 -

I should preface this with that fact I absolutely hate vacuuming in my house currently. We have multiple sets of stairs with low pile carpeting, too many pieces of furniture to work around, half the house is tiled, and our outlets are ill-placed.

I grew up using a filter queen from the 60's, which was well made but absolutely traumatized me with the abuse the canister did to my heels and the weightlifting needed to carry it up and down stairs constantly (my grandmother and mother were frugal and big fans of filter queens. We finally just got rid of the 8 my grandmother had hoarded in her basement). Every other vacuum we've had was from a garage sale and never worked very well.

I've been looking at the Dyson V8 ever since I used one at a nannying gig over the summer and loved it. It was so easy to pull out for a quick vacuuming, was easily maneuverable, cordless (LOVED), and I didn't have to drag around a canister. I know the battery life isn't great on the V8, but I don't mind splitting up vacuuming days for different rooms. My aunt also let me register her old Dyson for the 20% discount I'm hoping to apply.

Mostly, I'm concerned it's going to give up on me in only a few years as some people have mentioned in comments on other posts. Is that unusual, or pretty standard for their vacuums? Can it really not live up to being a main vacuum? Is there even another cordless I could get at that price that would??I don't want to waste the money on something that won't work well after a year or completely give up on me in 3.

Edit: Cannot apply the 20% off discount to sale items ;___;

Our Dyson V10 died a week ago. We used it for maybe 3-4 years, once a week. RIP.

The reviews seem good. Amazon also has it 4.5 rating. Does anyone have honest review/recommendation on this item? We do not have pets.

Thank you!
