Dyson V8 vs V10
This is not surprising given that the V8 has 28 Air Watts of suction in Low Power Mode while the V10 only has 15.8 (the V8 is pumping out 77% more power in Low Power Mode). However when we switch the V10 to Medium Power Mode its performance jumps up.

August 1, 2017 - The Dyson V8 offers an impressive 40-minute runtime and up to 115AW (Air Watts) suction. That’s a serious increase on the 20-minute runtime and 100AW suction that 2014’s Dyson V6 offered.

Dyson V8 Absolute review: Still a great cordless vacuum
The V8’s increased power amounts to the motor spinning at up to 110,000RPM, the same as on the previous model. Dyson’s rated suction power has increased, however, from 100 air watts to 115 air watts in the new model. The Dyson V11 reigns supreme, but the V8 Absolute is still a great cordless vacuum cleaner

The Dyson V8 Absolute Vacuum Really "Sucks"...Dirt Off of the Floor - Review - HighTechDad™
Dyson V8 Absolute Vacuum
In the DC59, it was a press button. The V8 Absolute has a physical switch. Speaking about the Max Mode, the amount of sucking power has been increased from 100AW to 115AW of suction. (AW stands for Air Watts.) In terms of sucking, the Dyson V8 Absolute doesn’t and does. Dyson continues to innovate making household chores like vacuuming much more pleasurable and effective. The Dyson V8 Absolute brings a whole new level of powerful, cordless, lightweight vacuuming as a weapon against dirt and dust in the home. The Dyson V8 Absolute is literally a "snap" to set up, with all of the attachments sna

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Difference between pa and aw suction power calculation
February 8, 2024 -

I've been shopping around for cordless stick vacuums, and found it confusing that some advertise their suction power in watts (typically 180watts, and Dyson is more powerful around 230watts), and some others advertise theirs as pa (something ludicrous like 1229000pa for an enolux). How can I standardise it so I'm not comparing apples with oranges?

That’s the neat part, you don’t! At best, these manufacturer provided numbers can give a rough idea of performance between the same brand’s lineup, Dyson stick vacs being one example. However, their real purpose is just to impress you with a big number. Number one, there’s not really a standard method or organization that tests these metrics. Number two, vacuum performance depends on a lot more than some easy-to-digest numbers. There’s not really a good way to quantify factors like nozzle design, agitation, or the way a vacuum interacts with the carpet. Also, be aware that the suction/airflow for the cordless machines drops dramatically on lower power modes. Those super high numbers really only apply to the super-short runtime settings, which I rarely find practical for real world use. As an aside, these are what the different values mean. Watts: How much power can the vacuum draw from the wall Sealed Suction (kPa or inH2O): How much pressure the vacuum creates when sealed to the testing apparatus Airflow (cfm): Volume of air the vacuum can suck in over a given time period Airwatts: Sealed suction and Airflow combined in a formula

air watts is a standard term used by IEC and ASTM defined as being equal to airflow * water lift * 1/8.5 they moved away from measuring power of the motor in watts to the amount of that power that is effectively translated into air movement and suction. pascals are a measure of pressure, typically for this application written as kpa (kilo pascals) due to the scale of the number being quite high. Water lift and pascals both measure pressure, they can be converted directly and 1kpa = 4.019 inches of water lift. I would be careful converting kpa and aw, there are formulas and calculators to do so but I see a lot of errors and variations in them. kpa and water lift are safely comparable, AW you would need to know the value they added for cfm to correctly solve for other variables.

r/dyson on Reddit: Dyson Cordless Vacuum Comparison Chart
November 29, 2023 -

Was looking at various sales this past weekend and wanted to understand the differences between models so I made a quick at a glance comparison chart for the Dyson v8, v11, v12, v15, and Gen5 (newest) + variants. If you have additional information about models or a key comment / when features were added, just mention it in the comments and I'll try to keep this updated.

Dyson mentions this to be different from the regular v15 variants as it is a new wet & dry vacuum - you cannot use the attachment with your current Dyson. Built in screen.

General vs Absolute: The main difference between the models is the built in crevice tool into the want and a more advanced HEPA filter due to a change in EU HEPA standards. Absolute has .01 micron filtration (cyan blue filters), where the old one has .03 filtration (purple filters). I would suggest buying the absolute version due to the better HEPA filter and the connivence of the built in crevice tool. If anyone knows of other differences, please let me know.

General vs Outsize: Outsize Dysons are a larger format of the version provided. They allow for longer runtimes, extra capacity, and usually have larger versions of the cleaner and motorbars. The suction should theoretically be similar as the power of the motor is increased as well. This variant would be well suited to cleaning a large house in one go compared to having to swap batteries and empty the canister, as well as reducing cleaning time due to the larger motorbar heads. (Important to note, you would not want to attempt to purchase the larger size motorbars for non outsize versions as it would likely reduce suction)

Airwatts (AW): Air watts are calculated using the formula, (Air Flow (in CFM) x Vacuum (in inches of water lift))/8.5 = Air Watts. Dyson uses this to determine the suction power of the vacuum, but some argue this may be misleading.

Submarine Attachment Note: Dyson mentions on their website that the Dyson Submarine attachment is NOT compatible with other Dyson cordless vacuums as the Submarine version is a wet and dry vacuum. The attachment is not for sale to the general public.
