Eagle Creek Explore Backpack 26L (Latest version)
New eagle creek travel backpack
Has someone tested the redesigned Eagle Creek Tour Travel Backpack 40L?
Ultralight Packable Daypack?
I have one of the Osprey ones that packs up to the size of an orange.
I hate it.
Dont get me wrong, it works just fine, but I hate wearing it. It's like having a shopping bag flopping away on your back while you get poked by the crap in there.
I just cant do those ultralight daypacks.
My personal view is to go with something comfortable and sturdy. Its worth sacrfiicing a tiny bit of weight for the extra comfort. The reality is people spend ages finding the 'perfect' main pack, and tend to forget the fact your main bag only goes with you to and from your accommodation and transport, and is otherwise sitting at the foot of your bed, or in an overhead locker or similar. You'll probably only have it on your back for ah hour at a time at most, and only when going from ho(s)tel to plane/train and back.
Your day pack OTOH is worn all day, every day. For hours at a time. Shopping, to the beach, around the city etc. It'll need to hold towels, full water bottle, snacks, sunscreen, a rain jacket, your wallet or phone, glasses, a hoodie, a kindle or tablet etc.
Those flimsy packable suckers just drive me mental.
I recommend a 'lay flat' day pack as an alternative. Something with minimal (but sufficient) padding, that can lay flat inside your main bag, taking up minimal space.
I currently use the Helikon Tex EDC lite as my go to day pack. It weighs 600 grams, and when lying flat in my main bag (a TAD EDC Fastpack 30l), you barely notice its there. Padding is sufficient on the face and straps (but still thin) it's got waterbottle holders, places to clip things to, compression straps, a sternum strap, and is a ripstop material.
There are plenty of other options you can use as a lay flat day pack as well.
Seriously; those little ultralight packable day packs are a PITA to carry your stuff in, and it is going to be on your back all day long. It's totally worth stepping it up a bit on your day pack. The minimal increase in weight totally makes up for it with the increased daily comfort.

Does anyone have experience of this bag? There seems to be very limited actual reviews that I've found, packhacker has the older version.

The bag finish might discourage some people but otherwise I think it looks good? Can anyone advise real world experience? Did you buy/keep/return it?
Thanks!
I continue to search for the perfect carry on travel backpack for my needs. I had the peak design but it was too heavy and uncomfortable and complicated for me. I don't like the front laptop compartment on the Farpoint.
I stumbled across this new eagle creek backpack Tour travel backpack and it looks like it would be perfect for me. It does not have much organization however its only 1.2 kg and the harness system looks quite good which is important to me.
I really like the big water bottle pocket on the side and how the laptop compartment is near the back. Would love to hear your guys thoughts.
