Do you need to start holiday shopping even earlier this year? Here's what retail experts say
October 16, 2021 - With widespread supply chain warnings, retailers including Amazon and Target started to offer holiday promotions even earlier than normal to get ahead of the lack of inventory and to ease consumer anxiety. That may yet lead to an accelerated timeline for holiday gift buying. NPD Group said in its annual holiday shopping outlook that 51% of respondents to a survey said they plan to start holiday shopping before Thanksgiving, but that is only up slightly from last year.

Has the Christmas Shopping Season Overtaken Halloween? (Published 2021)
October 30, 2021 - “We knew our customers would want to come in earlier this year,” said Russ Patrick, a merchandise manager for Neiman Marcus, which began selling holiday goods — including fully decorated Christmas trees — in September. “There is a desire to make up for last year’s season that was very impacted by the pandemic.” · Discount retailers are also capitalizing on the supply-chain rush. “People are thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, the stores aren’t going to have product,’” said Bruce Levine, the chief merchandising officer at 99 Cents Only Stores, which is based in California. “This mind-set is making people want to shop early, and we wanted to take advantage of that.”

Does anyone else find Christmas shopping overwhelming?
I’ve become “the grinch” in my family because I stopped celebrating Christmas with gift exchanges about 7-8 yrs ago. Food? Yes. Cookies? Hell yeah. Christmas movies? Yup. Spending time together? Of course. Anxiety ridden over what to buy people because it’s expected? Nope🙅🏼♀️. In my opinion, gifts should be for kids. As adults you’re basically just exchanging money. The last gift exchange I did, we exchanged $25 gift cards so it was like, what’s the point of this? So I always give fair warning to not buy me anything, because I have stopped doing gift exchanges. (Obviously if I had kids or nieces/nephews, but adults? Nah.) More on reddit.com

December 20, 2023 - A new report from Wells Fargo cited a key theme for holiday sales in 2021 — simply put, to be early. “That is as true for shoppers and retailers as it is for producers and shippers, where Santa’s helpers all over the world have been pulling out all the stops to restock depleted inventories despite ongoing supply chain constraints and COVID flare-ups that have kept workers out of factories at times,” Wells Fargo analysts wrote.
