As the title says. My daughter and I were having a conversation earlier, and she asked me to order something from Amazon; I was busy so I told her “please remind me this afternoon”. She responded by telling me it is already afternoon (it was 12:10pm). So this made me start to think about times of day and if there is a standard, so I googled it and that was useless because it was kind of all over the place or not specific enough… no real standard definition that I could find.
I would like to preface this by saying this is how I personally reference the different “time periods” throughout the day, it has nothing to do with any proper definitions or scientific research, this is just how I, myself, will reference the different time periods throughout the day :)
So I’m thinking maybe everyone kinda has their own personal “range” they use for specific times of the day? Anyway, I thought it would be fun to see what hours everyone else uses/considers to be morning/noon/afternoon/evening/night/early morning etc or whatever … so here’s mine:
Ok, so to me… (and this is just how I personally define the times of day, when I’m speaking about morning/noon/night etc) goes kind of like this:
morning is like 5am-12pm noon, noon is like 11am-1pm, afternoon is anytime between 1-5pm, evening is between 5-9pm, nighttime is after 9pm til like 2am, then it’s early morning from like 2-5am. So, for example, if it’s like 11am, and I ask my daughter “will you please remind me this afternoon”, I usually mean sometime between 1-3pm, but if I say “will you please remind me later this afternoon” that usually means anytime between 3-5ish pm.
am I psycho? Or does everyone have like a set period of time (in hours) that they kind of use to describe the times of day?
TLDR: What hours of the day do you consider when referencing the different time periods throughout a 24 hour period? For example: Morning/Noon/Afternoon/Evening/Night/Late Night/Early Morning

Is 11 am morning?
Is 12 am morning?
Is it goodmorning or good morning?
So in another post asking why people say 3am in the morning a commenter answered they use is to denote whether or not they have been to bed. Someone else answered that am is always morning. I would think morning begins at dawn. If it is dark out then it's still night. Which one is correct grammatically?
There's no definite time when late night turns into early morning, it's generally a matter of perspective, although I think many would consider it somewhere between 3am and 5am. For instance, you might consider it night until you go to sleep, and it's morning when you wake up. Of course, if you stay up all night, it eventually becomes morning, but there's no fixed time -- perhaps it's when you decide that it's too late to go to sleep, so you decide to stay up.
I slept early morning is not correct. You could say I woke up early in the morning or I didn't get to sleep until late at night.
Morning. I would say sunrise until noon, but in northern latitudes where sunrise can be late in the winter and early in the summer it's probably averaged out to about 06:00.
Night. I would say sunset to sunrise, again in northern latitudes, probably, averaged out to about 18:00 until 06:00.
An early morning would be waking up before 06:00, a late night would be going home after 06:00. (a late night usually means you have been out with your friends enjoying yourself - rather than simply going to bed later than is normal)
It's easier when you live on the Equator, 12 hours of light, 12 hours of dark.
It is reasonably self-explanatory. Morning is generally considered the hours 6AM to 12PM. Night is usually 6PM to 6AM (we will disregard daylight savings etc. for this example). Most people regard night as 'the time when it is dark', and morning from the hours when the sun has risen (until the afternoon). However, some people will actually refer to the 'early morning' as hours from 12AM-6AM and hence this can be a little confusing.
Thus, to answer your question, 'early in the morning' would refer to earlier hours of the morning (i.e. around 12AM-6AM). Again, late at night is when most people will begin sleeping (around 8PM-12AM) and also 12AM-6AM the following day (if you consider this still as night, since it is dark). It's a confusing topic to understand, as there are not set rules about them, but hopefully this helps.
In the morning = before noon.
Early in the morning = in the first hours of the time that most people are up and about.
At night = during the hours of darkness, or when most people are in bed.
Late at night = in the latter part of the evening, when some people are probably already in bed.
For context, my first language is Portuguese.
And in Portuguese, we have a word called "madrugada", that means the time after 11:59PM and before the sunrise.
And I wanna know if there is some specific term in english to call that specific time of the day.
