As far as I'm aware, that recipe should work. Just to go through the typical ars essence diagnostics, are you using an imbuement chamber or an enchanter, and are there any other pedestals nearby? Answer from schoolmonky on reddit.com

r/feedthebeast on Reddit: [Stoneblock 4] How can I get Earth Essences from Ars Nouveau?
November 24, 2025 -

The other essences are easy enough. I tried doing the usual recipe (Iron, Dirt, Wheat Seed) but it just says invalid recipe. JEI won't list a recipe. Is random loot the only way?

EDIT: The pack had a bug/oversight and was out of date, and Prism I guess doesn't auto-update by default. Writing this here in case someone needs this info in the future.

Ars nouveau conjuration essence recipe not found
3x3 with imbuement chamber in center. 3 pedestals, one with wilden horn, one with starbuncle shard, one with a book (these don't get consumed). Then right click chamber with source gem. Make sure you have source jars nearby. Double check that you are using starbuncle and not whirlisprig. Just did it in my save (atm8). More on reddit.com

Ars generally doesn't use a lot of space for any one thing, but there are a lot of things that need a bit of space. It's made a little trickier by the way some pieces can be used by more than one mechanism (e.g. arcane pedestals can be used by enchanting apparatus or imbuement), so you have to make sure they're far enough apart that ars doesn't get confused about which piece goes with which setup. I've not gotten into the spellcasting side of things yet, but here's a basic starter guide for the arcane mechanisms/rituals side of things: Get stuff to make imbuement chamber. Use imbuement chamber to make source gems. This does not require source (mana) but source will drastically speed up the process. Make 8 more imbuement chambers and a whole bunch of arcane pedestals. Like half a stack of pedestals. Use source gems to make things like sourcelinks (agronomic is a good starter, or vitalic if you have a lethal mob farm) to generate source, source relays to transfer it, source jars to store it, and an enchanting apparatus and arcane core to craft with it. Set up all of your imbuement chambers to make the various types of essence (earth, air, fire, water, conjuration, abjuration, manipulation... I can't remember if there's one more). Each chamber will require 3-4 pedestals around it with specific items on it. The items on the pedestals will not be consumed by crafting. Note you can stick the pedestals into a crafting window to turn them into a short version that you can stick to walls, ceilings, or the imbuement chamber itself. My preferred setup for doing this involves a drawer under the imbuement chamber with a "pull from up" upgrade on it (locked to whatever type of essence you're creating), another drawer for source gems on top with a "push to down" upgrade in it, and then just stick the pedestals you need to the side of the imbuement chamber. Again, none of these require source, but it will greatly speed up the process. Pedestals must be within one block of the imbuement chamber they're affecting. Now you can use the enchanting apparatus. This works kind of like the imbuement chamber, with three major differences: a. Items on pedestals will be consumed b. Pedestals can be up to three blocks away from the apparatus c. Source is required. You'll put down an arcane core, put the enchanting apparatus on top, and surround them with 8 pedestals. Then put a source jar on top. To get source you need sourcelinks. There are several kinds and they all generate differently. The agronomic that I mentioned earlier generates source from the growth of nearby crops, so put it in a farm. The vitalic link generates source from nearby mobs growing (like farm animals) or dying, so a mob farm is a perfect spot (a cooked chicken farm is also great for a vitalic link). Source links will automatically send collected source into nearby source jars. You can send that source elsewhere by using source relays (which can be upgraded into several different varieties) to transfer to other jars. Jars cannot send to each other, but you can do jar -> relay, relay -> relay, and relay -> jar. Sending to or receiving from multiple places requires those upgrade relays I mentioned. Check JEI for details. Use the dominion wand to link and unlink jars/relays/etc - right click on the sender, then right click on the destination. Repeat to unlink. Almost all things that use source will automatically pull from nearby source jars, so just set up some relays to transfer source from the jars near your source link to the jar on top of the enchanting apparatus. Put the "surrounding" items on pedestals, the central item goes into the apparatus last, and then watch the pretty light show! You can also start doing rituals at this point. Rituals are basically a way to create an area of some type of effect, kinda like a beacon, or to cast powerful one-time spells, like creating an amethyst golem. You need three things: a ritual brazier, source to power it, and a ritual tablet of some type. A full list of all rituals (including creative flight!) is provided in the manual, or just look up "tablet" in JEI. To activate a ritual, you just put down a brazier, provide it with source via a nearby source jar, right-click the brazier with the tablet to prepare the ritual, and finally you can right-click the brazier with an empty hand to activate it. Note that some rituals can be "augmented" to change the effect. These augmentations are all described in the manual. If you need to augment a ritual, simply right-click the brazier with the augmentation material BEFORE you activate the ritual, but AFTER you have placed the ritual tablet in the brazier. Finally, rush the storage lectern. It's basically an AE2 system without autocrafting. You bind the lectern to inventories within 30 blocks of the lectern (shift right click on inventory, then shift right click on lectern), and it can access all of them, with crafting grid, in one interface. You'll have to do a bunch of rituals to summon bookwyrms (1 bookwyrm per 16 inventories bound), but considering that even things like storage drawer controllers only count as 1 inventory, this is seriously powerful. You can even put down satellite lecterns that are bound to the "central" lectern (within 30 blocks) to access your storage from multiple places... And you can even bind more lecterns to the satellite lecterns (that is, can be more than 30 blocks from central lectern, as long as it's within 30 blocks of the satellite lectern) to expand even further! The only real downside is that you can't bind inventories to the satellite lecterns, only to the central one, so storage needs to be centralized (e.g. within 30 blocks of the original lectern), but you can expand out access to it as much as you want. You can even pull items from the lecterns via automation! Hope that helps! More on reddit.com

I tried with and without source jars, with source gems and source gem blocks. Other rituals work fine, the problem is just for essences.

I did this in another modpack, without source jar (as far as I know it should be only to speed it up, right?) but here, nothing seems to work.
