Hi there. I have not bought anything on eBay from the US for a while and I always only did if I could get it sent via USPS as a lot of the couriers charge insane brokerage fees the boarder. I recently paid $60us brokerage fees an $80 purchase on a UPS shipment (I thought it was going to be sent via USPS).
What is the deal with “eBay international shipping” - are brokerage fees a possibility?? I have a few things i would like to buy that way where I can’t get it sent usps.
Note: I have zero probs with paying tax or even duties. I just one want couriers ripping me off with brokerage fees if have to use the “eBay international shipping” option. Thanks!
How do folks feel about the Global Shipping Program?
I’m a Canadian buyer.. and I want to vent my frustrations about the global shipping program - and am curious if other buyers and sellers feel the same.
The global shipping program feels like it takes way more time.. often parcels are sitting there for days without an update before they move towards Canada. I have had one get lost entirely, and have another that today we opened a ticket because it’s been sitting idle since April 22nd.
It also feels like it costs me more as the buyer - paying one domestic shipping from somewhere in the states to Illinois, and a second one to get it across the border.
I also buy Canadian coins, which if they are the 99.99 pure silver or gold, should not be charged duties when they cross the border. Sellers often correctly label their item, but eBay ALWAYS declares it as a ‘special classification’ code for ‘personal goods sent by mail’ - which then charges me duties for an item that should be duty-free. Regardless of what the seller declares, eBay uses this catch-all code that isn’t correct.
If anything, the Global Shipping Program costs more, takes more time, and is riskier. I try and avoid it, and I have a feeling that other Canadians do too.
How do other people feel about the program? Is it more helpful as a seller?
My personal encouragement - especially to sellers in the USA.. please also ship direct to Canada, I can’t imagine it’s all that much more complicated to do outside of the Global Shipping Program!
