In my experience the main difference is the duties and taxes portion. Because the buyer doesn’t pay that portion up front, it is initially cheaper for them. I also like that you can combine shipping, unlike GSP. Shipping is cheaper than USPS international delivery too. That said, the protections aren’t the same. If the item gets lost or damaged, you’re only covered up to $100 unless you buy more coverage and you’re obligated to refund the buyer. I’ve purchased the additional insurance without any issues though. I hope that helps! Edit: I’ll add that it does open up the market too. Less restricted countries. r/Ebay on Reddit: Is anyone using eBay International Standard Delivery instead of GSP?
July 30, 2019 -

And if you are, what are the differences? Why would it be better than the Global Shipping Program? I like GSP because it takes the worry away. I ship to Kentucky, they take it from there. Nothing back on me if it doesn't get delivered or if it is damaged, they take care of it. Customs is taken care of. It is much less stressful to me than when I shipped it myself.

However, it is expensive for the buyer. Is this new one cheaper for them? Is it as safe and worry free for me? Anyone using it?

TIA

I started using it a few months ago, and I am glad that I did. I still put high priced items on GSP, simply because of the upfront taxes. But for everything else I have used it pretty much exclusively. Prior to this, using USPS International, there were often items that were lost. So much so that I had to stop shipping to several countries, including Italy, France, and Germany. I never shipped to Mexico or South America. Now, my items are rarely lost. In fact, the only two INR claims I have had since I started using it, have been items that for whatever reason I had to ship via USPS International. Everything else seems to get there without problems. I had some that were very late due to the covid situation.

Similar to GSP, an item is shipped first somewhere in the USA, and then repackaged and forwarded from there. DHL handles the delivery, I believe. They may hand it off to the respective countries Post Office in some cases, I'm not entirely sure. But a DHL tracking number will be issued. Since I started using it I have expanded international again to include most countries. According to their terms, the items are insured up to $100. I have yet to file a claim. The prices are pretty much the same as USPS, but you won't be charged for the labels immediately. The cost will be included with your monthly eBay fees. Buyers are only charged for shipping (if applicable), the taxes/duty fees are not included.

r/Ebay on Reddit: Global Shipping Program vs International Standard Shipping
July 27, 2022 -

I'm wondering if anyone can answer this for me.

For the longest time I was using "international shipping standard" on all my listings thinking that was the global shipping program. When I figured out that the global shipping program is actually something completely different I started using that instead for new listings. So I've got a bunch of older listings with international standard and a bunch of newer listings with global shipping program....

My biggest question is, which one is cheaper for international buyers? I can see the international cost for international shipping standard but for the global shipping program it doesn't show how much it costs the buyer for shipping. Is it the same as normal shipping? You'd think they'd have to be paying more in shipping than US buyers since the items are going internationally, but I can't see if they actually are paying more. Basically I'd like to use the cheapest option for international buyers.

I've used both and they are each way is incredibly simple. With both options you are only responsible for getting the item to an eBay distribution site and then it ships internationally from there. If a package goes missing after that you're not responsible for refunding. With international standard your packages can ship to many different ebay distribution sites, and for GSP you just ship to Kentucky.

So far everyone I've talked to just uses GSP and has no idea which one is actually cheaper.

GSP is more seller friendly as it effectively reduces seller’s exposure to shipping risk by cutting their responsibility from international to domestic. GSP is costly for buyer because of higher shipping cost and prepaid import taxes. Only offering GSP may lose sales. Direct international shipping is more attractive to buyers because of lower cost and opportunity to pay less import taxes at the customs. There are many websites that accurately estimate import taxes based on product type and rates set by each country. All EU share the same policy so seller can become familiar with import taxes quickly. Buying third party shipping insurance can sufficiently help seller mitigate risk. I want my buyers to know my commitment to offering the most cost effective international shipping. So this is my choice.

I’ve purchased 4 items items in the past month from 4 different sellers 2 used the global shipping and the other 2 used international shipping. The items that were shipped with just the international shipping ended up being less expensive. The reason being I didn’t end up paying duty/import charges. The packages ended up in the hands of Canada Post and flew through customs without getting flagged. With the global shipping program, I had to prepay duty/customs charges which ended up being expensive. Customs charges can be a gamble but I’ve had incredible luck with packages shipped through USPS that end up with Canada Post. It seems that since Covid, very few packages are getting flagged at the border. This is just my most recent experience. I’m actually watching a few items right now and choosing sellers that Don’t use the global shipping program.

"This new option is available in the listing flow, under Shipping Details. You have the option of selecting Calculated or Flat international shipping cost listings. For either of these options, select “eBay international standard delivery” shipping service from the drop down menu."

ok I understand that ... then it goes on to say this:

What’s the difference between eBay international standard delivery and the Global Shipping Program?

eBay international standard delivery is a Delivered Duties Unpaid (DDU) shipping solution—buyers won’t pay duties and tax at checkout on eBay, but may have to pay the carrier for duties and tax on delivery.

The Global Shipping Program (GSP) is a Delivery Duties Paid (DDP) shipping program—buyers pay duties and tax during checkout on eBay via GSP.

eBay international standard delivery gives you full control of what you want to charge buyers for shipping (Free, Flat, Calculated) from end to end. With GSP, the buyer always sees the GSP shipping charges, and also any costs you set for the domestic shipping leg (Free, Flat, Calculated).

So... whats the benefit? In the end, am I saving anything as the shipper?

So, based on my (entirely anecdotal and limited) experience with international standard, I'd say stay away. It is far cheaper for buyers, but you lose the seller protections offered by GSP. With GSP, once it arrives at eBay's center, you're obligation is done. Not the case with international standard, despite it going to the same place. And the tracking numbers you're given seem to be BS, too. With both packages sent via international standard delivery, the items never arrived. I could see tracking information showing it arriving in Frankfurt, KY (where eBay's warehouse/shipping center is), and then nothing, for weeks on end. eBay was no help, and buyer opened a case (understandably). eBay sides with the buyer, and refunds them in full, and tells me that they have no tracking data for the item. When I provided it, they said that it never showed the item was shipped. Then they denied my claim for compensation, saying the item was never shipped. This happened both times I used the service, so I stopped using it. Cost me ~$200 between the 2 items and the shipping costs I had to refund. As a seller, with GSP, you only deal with shipping to eBay, all the costs and packaging after that is on them. With International standard, you set your own price and do your own shipping, but it still seems to go to eBay's center in Kentucky, just like with GSP. Of course, this is based off 2 experiences from one person, so other's may have had better experiences.

I offer GSP on basically all my listings and direct & GSP on a lot of my smaller items. I leave it up to the customer how they would like to get their item. Most people outside the US have a realistic expectation on how long an item is going to take to get to them. Protip: block/force GSP for Guatemala, they basically do not have a functioning postal service at this point.

I'm a total noob at this, but how is it different from GSP? I only saw the option for international standard delivery for shipping when I was listing my item, not GSP.

When I printed the shipping label, it was showing the destination to Kentucky. I'm assuming from here it would go on to the final destination? If so, how is this really any different from GSP? And would I still be able to see tracking information from Kentucky to the final address? Thanks in advance, I'm a total shipping noob.

I've shipped with this to Canada a few months back, it generated a shipping label with address in Covington, KY.

This time, again sold to Canada, when i printed the label, it's a Post Express label with direct address to the buyer. Did the program change, or do they allow some to go direct during holiday season to avoid overwhelming their partner warehouse in KY?

I got an email thanking me for my "partnership and participation in the eBay Send International Standard (eBay Send) pilot. Your contributions and feedback played a pivotal role in shaping this new international shipping service." It goes on to talk about this changing to "eBay international standard delivery." So, my question is this: I don't remember ever being a part of this pilot. So, not a big deal, they probably sent this out to a lot of people. But I am wondering if anyone else got this and if this means that GSP is going away rather quickly. I know that managed payments doesn't support GSP, so this is my fear. I hate losing GSP, it made it so easy to not have to worry about tracking or customs. My auctions haven't changed, they still have GSP enabled, I am also wondering if that will suddenly go away on me. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this? I will copy the rest of the email below just in case anyone is interested. (I hope this post is okay, I deleted the links)

As we roll out the new offer to all sellers in the coming weeks, we’d like to tell you about a couple of changes.
• The name of the service is changing from eBay Send to eBay international standard delivery. Going forward, you will now see eBay international standard delivery as an option in eBay Labels. • We have updated the rate card for the service based on 2020 adjustments and the table below shows you updated pricing effective immediately. eBay international standard delivery is still the lowest cost international shipping option available on eBay. •

As you continue to use eBay international standard delivery, we hope you also continue to share feedback. Recognizing the impact that the rising cost of shipping has on your business, our team is excited to offer a low cost option with better tracking visibility, little change in your operations, and protections.

July 7, 2025 -

I am a seller on eBay. I have shipped about 10 overseas packages in the last 3 years. They all went through a hub in Illinois, and I never had any problems. Sure, some of the packages took over three weeks but the customer and I could always see the progress. This time the package, bound for Brazil, went to Philadelphia. When it got to the PO in Philadelphia the buyer and I got an email saying that the item was delivered, which the buyer thought meant delivered to her. The third-party shipper picked it up, but I never got an email with the international tracking number. I contacted eBay customer service several times to try to figure out who was shipping the package to Brazil. The agents just kept telling me it must have gotten stolen or lost at the PO and to take it up with USPS. I finally noticed a new number pop up, not on her main order page, but when I went to "labels". I tracked it and saw that it had gone through 3 different shipping companies and was in Brazil in customs. The customer filed a dispute with her card company so she will get the necklace, and I will get nothing. I contacted eBay again to find out why the new tracking number didn't automatically get sent to us both. The customer service agent said that she knew that eBay is trying to expand their shipping. She was going to transfer me to the sales department, but they didn't want to talk to me. They told her to tell me that they never know which international shipper is going to pick it up because it is based on the country it is going to??? This is going to cause HUGE problems, especially if the buyers and sellers don't automatically get the international tracking number. In this instance there were three different carriers involved, USPS, Easy Ship, and Asendia. This sounds like it is a fairly new development in eBay international shipping, and I may turn it off until they get everything ironed out.

Shipping an $80 item from US to France. I'm about to purchase the label but just want to be sure I understand - for eBay International Standard Delivery, I just enter the package info and purchase then print the label just as I would if I were shipping domestically? Then eBay handles all of the customs paperwork? I don't have to worry about any extra paperwork, brokerage fees, or anything else?

Also, is eBay's hub going to unpack and potentially man-handle this fragile item? If I were to pay the $11 more for USPS would there be less chance of someone unpacking and repacking the box? Just worried about this pristine mahogany box being scratched, dropped, etc. if they choose to open it.

And can I put fragile stickers on the box? If it wasn't already clear, I'm completely new to int'l shipping - just want to make sure I'm covering all bases but also not doing anything to hold up this process.

This is my first time shipping an item to another country. The shipping label had a different address. It showed as Philadelphia PA as shown in the picture. So I thought maybe that location is in charge to send the package to the Netherlands. So I printed it and shipped it. When I go to USPS App it says Delivered but on Ebay it says it's available for pickup... Am I thinking correctly? Will Philadelphia send it to the Netherlands?

I don't think you used eBay International Shipping service. It has hubs in Chicago and Los Angeles. I think you shipped using eBay International Standard Delivery service (yes, I know it's confusing, but they're two different things). In that case it's also normal for it to go to a 'consolidation center' first, then be sent along to final destination. Basically so long as you shipped to the address eBay gave you, it's all good. But if you somehow got convinced to send it to a -different- address than eBay gave you, then you have lost all seller protection and will probably end up losing both your item and the money you were paid. There is normally some delay between what the carrier shows for tracking and that info getting 'replicated' into eBay. If USPS is showing 'delivered' it will very likely go to 'delivered' in eBay soon enough.

it appears 19176 is a zip code only for PO boxes and not physical addresses. did you ship to the address given by ebay or did you change the address, and if you did, why did you change the address? edit: it seems like the address was not changed and its destined to go to netherlands according to asendia tracking. ebay standard international goes to a different warehouse than ebay international shipping but otherwise generally follows the same process. you have liability protection from not received cases of $100 but no more than that. you're also going to remain liable if the item arrives damaged or not as described, so i hope everything works out for you. the package should eventually progress to step 2 and step 3, it just takes time to process.

r/Ebay on Reddit: My First (and Last) Experience with eBay International Shipping
August 1, 2025 -

I knew that eBay International Shipping was a joke, but I never realized how horrible the system actually is. I'm not a big eBay user, and usually stick to Canadian listings (with positive results), but there was a really HTF item available from the US for $75 (+$30 shipping) that I decided to take the risk. Big mistake.

Unfortunately, my package (with a delivery range to me of July 23 to Aug 2) has been "in transit" for about 3 weeks to the eBay International Shipping depot in CAROL STREAM IL, and each day I look for an update the status is always "In Transit to Next Facility, Arriving Late". So I decided to contact some friends and hangers-on 'in the know" at eBay Canada, and from what I can divine, it seems like eBay is paying a cut-rate fee to the USPS and in turn is getting cut-rate service from the USPS.

What looks to be happening is that there is a HUGE shipping container in Illinois (or Kentucky) that the USPS guys slowly fill with packages destined for the eBay International Shipping depot, and when it finally fills up weeks (or months) later, the USP eventually sends it to eBay. It also means the eBay system is essentially FILO (First In, Last Out) since the oldest package in the container will be the last package eBay staff removes and reships to its final destination.

That's why some eBay International Shipping packages seem to process quickly (top of the container) for some, while others take a month to finally be delivered to the eBay depot (bottom of the container).

This is the very first and very last time I use eBay International Shipping, as I literally have no idea when, or even if, this package will arrive and I've pretty well written it off as lost and will attempt a refund after it hits a month in transit to IL, which should be in about 7-8 days.

And that's not even getting in to the other profit-making, such as buyers supposedly paying for USPS service, but eBay using some cut-rate courier like DHL or UPS to actually ship from the US to the destination, which will naturally incur all kinds of spurious charges to make up for the artificially-low contract rates with eBay.

I can just see the skinflint in the boardroom piping up with "Hey, I got a great idea to steal even more money - we can add a big surcharge to put a new shipping label on all International packages. And the best part is, we can advertise USPS, but then make more money by reshipping using cheap couriers who will then overcharge customers."

r/Flipping on Reddit: Anyone using the new eBay international shipping option yet?
July 31, 2017 -

I don't use GSP. I do ship quite a bit internationally and have been using USPS (mostly First Class Package but others as well).

Due to the recent price increases, ebay is now offering "eBay Send". I think this is the official name or was going to be and they scrapped it, but at time of printing a label it appears as "eBay International Standard Delivery" (and possibly "eBay International Economy Delivery" in some cases, have not tested yet).

There is no opt in or similar, it just suddenly appeared in my main eBay account as a possible option to select at time of shipping.

I can't find any details from eBay about what exactly this is (which carrier they are using, logistics, etc..)....but a few things of note:

-The cost of shipping is billed to monthly invoice just like Fedex through eBay, which leads me to believe that the charge shown could be adjusted (just like Fedex) so warning to keep track.

-due to included insurance ($100) even for lighter packages, the pricing, and delivery estimates, it appears to me to be using "Global Post" most possibly (globalpost.com)? If so, "Global Post" generally doesn't require customs forms (you send the package to one of their distribution centers and they print the customs forms, then they ship direct to a USPS international service center (a little similar to GSP except customs charges are handled by USPS as 'normal' , not the GSP method) but eBay is still showing customs form input. Possibly very discounted DHL? Something else?

-If it is Global Post, do the words "standard delivery" by eBay equate to "Global Post Standard"? I want to verify that eBay isn't trying to sneak using "Global Post Economy" but still calling it "standard delivery" on their end. Essentially...I want to know how much slower this option is compared to USPS International First Class Package.

-I haven't actually printed a label using this service, if someone has, can they describe or show a photo of what the label looks like? (I'll go ahead and print then cancel a label if needed)

r/Ebay on Reddit: eBay Standard Shipping Issues
February 6, 2024 -

Been having a rough time with eBay’s standard shipping method.

I sell coins, and ones that are less than $20 are shipped via eBay’s Standard shipping.

Since November 2023, I’ve shipped roughly 40 or 50 packages through the standard shipping method. Almost all shipments have the exact same specifications (coin size, type, weight, packaging material and so forth).

About 10 of my packages have gone completely missing with no updates on tracking after the original scan (dropped at USPS, shipped to the city nearby, then tracking stops).

As I stated, nothing is different with these missing packages from those that have been delivered. Some packages are shipped internationally through eBay’s international shipping method, and some are domestic. Regardless, other orders with the same specifications (even international were delivered with no problem.

Called eBay several times, was told it “was a problem with their system”. After, I was told they were able to see the tracking information, but only with their internal tools. They said most packages were delivered. I asked for confirmation on all my missing packages, and they sent back that info.

Turns out, they are not marked as delivered and I’m not even sure what the eBay customer service rep. was stating about with most being delivered. She sent back the same exact information I can see on my end and the information I provided to them.

I contacted my customers, only 1 or 2 of them received their coins. Though, their package was still never marked as delivered. Now, A FEW packages with no tracking info end up being marked as delivered, but not many.

Furthermore, NO PACKAGES WERE RETURNED TO ME due to postal issues.

Has anyone else had this many issues with this program? I would very greatly appreciate any insight or advice on this matter. I’ve attached screenshots to clarify.

Tracking information examples

NOTE: eBay standard shipping changed in November (wasn’t even available for me for a few weeks during the change) and packages can now contain up to 3 coins and a combined value of $50 total. Again, I’ve successfully mailed and ha packages with multiple coins delivered, but some have not made it. This problem seems to be random, regardless of the amount of coins.

RANT NOTE: trying to work with eBay’s customer service regarding the issue has been hell. I’ve put in a lot of work, only to file insurance claims and disappoint my customers.

Hello! I bought something in September 15th from the US to Chile, it shipped very quickly and the tracking updates were great until it arrived at a postal office in Redondo Beach, I now know that’s the address for an eBay facility. The tracking stopped updating the 17th of last month and I have no clue what’s going on with it anymore. The estimated deliver date is between Oct 26th - Nov 30th, there’s still plenty of time left but I’m concerned that it hasn’t updated at all. According to what I found online this type of shipping goes through DHL ecommerce but they said they have the same info as the one I see whenever I checked and eBay was useless when I asked them. The seller can’t really do anything bc they already shipped the item so my question is, should I worry? Has any of you used this type of shipping? I know with the pandemic it’s gonna take longer than usual but still I’d like to know your experiences with it. Thanks!
