For beginners I think the best is netbeans, it has great support for Java. I currently use Intellij, it was a quite a switch from Netbeans but none the less a great improvement. Either way both are great

Probably just a slow mirror; I am not sure there is a way to tell the installer which mirror to use. I've had that notification before but it wasn't the slowest software install I seen.

In my humble opinion, these two aren't just IDEs but almost become ideologies, just like it used be Vim and Emacs in the days before them! The thing is that I'm touching Java after a huge gap of many years, I don't know what's the best option in the market these days. I've heard that a new dark horse called Intellij has surpassed both these in the Java world, is that true? And what happened after Netbeans went from Oracle to Apache Foundation, did they improve or make it any better? What, according to you, is a better candidate for starting Java coding in 2022?
