Plants for edging garden/barrier
I totally get it—I dealt with the same issue when grass kept creeping into my garden beds no matter how much mulch I used. What finally worked for me was planting chives and lavender along the border. They formed a thick enough barrier to block grass without becoming a problem themselves. Dwarf comfrey is also great—it stays put and suppresses weeds. If you combine that with deep edging like bricks or rocks, it should help keep things under control. Hope that helps! 😊 More on reddit.com

Inner edge plants for a pond and outer edge design ideas

I don’t know where you are at, but a few things to consider.

  1. Bring in some more cobble and really disguise that liner. Even a few boulders spaced along along the fence edge.

  2. If you tuck the liner back under itself a little, then you can introduce ground covers like Creeping Jenny, Ajuga and even creeping gazania, if you are in a more temperate climate. Also clumping or creeping ice plant.

  3. The pond appears to be more natural in flow of water is that correct? So with this is there any filtration or recirculating you have added to keep the water clear? If you want some education on water gardening and construction, I might suggest Aquascape Inc. Good luck Yard CoCh on YT

What did you use for edging around your garden beds?
I'm a huge fan of natural edging, such as victorian trench edging: http://www.sustainable-gardening.com/how-to/tips/edging http://www.finegardening.com/how-to/qa/economical-edging-beds.aspx I don't like barriers where you can't mow right up to the edge. It's such a waste of time and energy to have to go back and use a weed wacker to trim the edges. If I had to do an edge, I'd do a buried mowing strip, kinda like this: http://www.canadiangardening.com/how-to/lawn-care/separate-your-lawn-and-garden-with-mowing-strips/a/35951 Plastic edging can look really cheap after just a few seasons. Native Plants as Edging Plants
May 18, 2023 - Two years ago I planted a 20-foot narrow strip with native plants along my driveway next to a row of mature bushes in my neighbor’s yard. Easy care and attractive native edging options included blue-eyed grass (Syrinchium angustifolium), lyreleaf sage (Salvia lyrate), broomsedge bluestem (Andropogon virginicus), river oats (Chasmanthium latifolium), and native fleabane (erigeron).

October 13, 2024 -

Hi friends, I’m working on getting my garden set up for the spring. I’ve got some seriously aggressive grass/groundcovers that kicked my butt last year. I’ve had cardboard and mulch down since September and I’ve been clearing grass/weeds that are trying to creep under the edges. I’m thinking of doing a semi-buried rock/urbanite/brick edging, and then planting something around the outside of that border for an extra layer of grass barrier. Any recommendations for something that might be sturdy enough to keep the grass at bay but not so aggressive I’m fighting it instead of the grass?

What plants do you use to edge the rose garden?
January 29, 2011 - I love to use moss roses (portulaca) as a border inside my more formal rose bed, as it ties the colors of the roses all together. Although they have to be replanted every year, I use a lot of wax begonias as edges to my perennial beds because they never stop blooming until frost and lead the eye around the garden.
