Well worth a visit. Lots to see, amazing views. It can be very busy, it's not cheap and you're best to book in advance; but worth it IMO. More on reddit.com

Edinburgh Castle was just so much more impressive from a distance
Agreed. Intended to take the tour just cause I felt like I should, then my friends and I walked up to it, thought about the ~£20 fee, and said ehh we’re good. More on reddit.com

Admire the elegant exterior of the Georgian lodgings built in 1742 for the castle’s governor. The house is still used for its original purpose and so isn’t open to visitors. Ordnance Survey’s origins may stem from the basement: mapmaker William Roy stayed here during the Military Survey of Scotland. Amazing views to the west of Edinburgh are all yours from this high rampart.
