Why would you do both in the afternoon? Easy to do both if you head to the castle early and then you'll have plenty of time to go up Arthur's Seat. Also, what do you mean by not doing the hike up there? You can't teleport to the top, and it's a very easy & quick hike. Answer from Tim-Sanchez on reddit.com

Hi all! I’m visiting Edinburgh Castle next week. However, I am confused and would be grateful for some clarification - i I’m all the understanding that if I buy the £19 admission ticket for 12pm next week, that will get me inside the castle including St Margaret’s Chapel (something I really want to see) and everything else inside the castle. However, why are ticket times only half an hour? Surely it takes more than half an hour to view the castle’s interiors? Further, there’s this thing called “the Royal route” (if you google Edinburgh Castle Royal Route), it’s a 1.5 hour experience however there is absolutely no hyperlink to that activity. So my question is, is this a completely separate thing to a standard admission? Or is it something that I have to specify I want to do after I get my ticket? Further, if I buy a standard admission ticket for £19 that only lasts half an hour why is this Royal showing for 1.5 hours?

I was in Edinburgh this past week and bought Flexi-pass tickets for the Castle. Unfortunately time got the best of us and we were unable to use them. I have 2 tickets I am looking to give away (free) - message if interested!

r/uktravel on Reddit: Can you do Edinburgh castle and Arthur’s seat all in one day?
September 29, 2024 -

I only have 1 day in Edinburgh. I really wish I had more time since it is such a beautiful city. Planning to do Edinburgh castle in the afternoon and going to Arthur’s seat for the sunset however, I don’t want to do the hike up there because I don’t want to lose time. Ideally, I just want to get to the top, view the city and continue exploring the rest of Edinburgh. Is this possible?

I have 7 tickets to Edinburgh Castle for Friday August 16 at 2:00. 6 adult tickets and one child ticket. I cannot use them. Don’t want them to go to waste. Am willing to give them away.

Want to go to Edinburgh Castle and not spend a lot : r/Scotland
June 22, 2024 - There’s a reason why these places cost, they require the money for maintenance so we can continue to allow people to step into the history. If you can’t afford £20 for castle tickets then you probably can’t afford to visit at all, Edinburgh as a whole can be quite expensive, it’s a ...

r/Edinburgh on Reddit: Suggestions for day trip to Edinburgh
June 30, 2025 -

Hi, I'll plan on visiting Edinburgh on a Sunday (21 Sep) and doing the following stuff:

  • 10am - Edinburgh Castle (is a guided tour worth it, or would if be fine to just stroll by and get a few snaps?)

  • 2:30pm - Post lunch, walk past the Royal Mile, Holyrood Palace to Arthur's seat (again, conflicted between this and Calton Hill - feel free to suggest)

  • 5pm - Walk to Princes Street, do a little shopping (what is worth buying here?)

  • 8pm - Dinner and back to Glasgow

None of these times are super strict (except the castle if I get a guided tour ticket). Pls feel free to comment and offer suggestions.

Entry fee for Edinburgh castle : r/Edinburgh
April 12, 2025 - The castle is actually not owned by the King but by Scottish Ministers, so take it up with the current SNP government ... It's free entry on St Andrew's Day, so maybe go then instead. ... My parents took me all the time as a kid in the 70s. No charge then. Not sure when they started the fee.

r/Edinburgh on Reddit: Visiting for 7 days and I want to see CASTLES
September 24, 2023 -

Hello! My wife and I are very excited to be visiting Edinburgh. I know there's plenty to do and see in 7 days, but in consideration of that timeframe what recommendations would you have in order to accomplish our goal of seeing and visiting lots of castles?

Are the 1-3 day trips from tour companies a good option? It seems like that may be a convenient way to see the Highlands, Loch Lomond, and visit some key spots outside of Edinburgh.

Or is it worth it to rent a car and travel ourselves?
