r/investing on Reddit: Has anyone had any positive experiences with Edward Jones?
October 31, 2024 -
I made a post recently asking about which investing firms are the best. The majority responded with fidelity and vanguard. My issue is that in my area when I researched those two companies locally, all of the brokers for both companies had so many awful reviews . My experience with a broker from Edward jones was great and I spoke with her twice.
So I’m just curious if anyone has had a positive experience with Edward jones? If so why? And also if not, why?

EJ is a commission based advising firm with very high fees. Wouldn’t recommend them for any investor.

I know a few people who had (from their perspective) positive experiences with Edward Jones. Basically, it had to do with the advisor helping them with tax strategies and estate planning, and also access to certain high-yield municipal bonds that supposedly only Edward Jones had. But that perceived experience probably mostly comes down to Edward Jones’s business model: make the customer feel good about having their money there, while taking fees and percents of that money. So of course the Edward Jones broker is going to make you feel great, because if you go with Edward Jones then she’s going to make $$ off of you. For Vanguard and Fidelity, you don’t need a local person. You go though their website.

2 weeks ago - With Edward Jones for 4 years in West Dundee, IL. Hidden fees only shown to me after leaving for Charles Schwab, who charges me a flat .8 with total transparency. Ed Jones was 1.5. My dishonest advisor once told me he didn't need me. I took his advice. Happy as can be with Schwab.

Is Edward jones as bad as they say?
They nickel and dime you: https://www.edwardjones.com/sites/default/files/acquiadam/2022-12/ira-schedule-of-fees.pdf E.g., just to have an IRA with them costs you $75 / year. They also charge you 2% load on dividend reinvestment of a stock. Plus when you try to leave they smack a $100 termination fee on you. To put this into perspective, at one of the “big 3” low cost brokers (Schwab, Fidelity, Vanguard) (and many others), these services are free. And EJ does absolutely nothing to warrant this price differentiation. Plus there are the indirect shitty aspects of EJ, such as pushy salespeople looking for commissions on subpar product, and terrible expense ratios on nearly all funds they offer (last I checked, which was about 6-8 years ago) on their IRA’s. Edward Jones Reviews 2025: Cost, Pros & Cons
November 24, 2025 - Reviewed Nov. 24, 2025 · Edward Jones became harder and harder for me to work with. I am certain that it is because I have a relatively small retirement account and I don’t matter. First of all my debit card was hacked and they did not help me or refund my amount despite that I had called them right away and followed the steps.

We had already received those instructions, and needed clarification, that is why the pre-order was sent in for review before we went back to court. It has been almost a YEAR, nothing but run around and NO communication. My branch office has been WONDERFUL and is as frustrated as I am, her name is REMOVEDat REMOVED, REMOVED. This complaint in no way is against this branch, it is with the corporate bureau of passing the REMOVEDand no accountability. ... Edward Jones takes all client complaints seriously.

I have 50k in a Roth there. Is it a bad idea to keep my money with them? I’ve heard a lot of negatives online and in other Reddit communities.

They are very expensive and their advice is poor-to-average. They talk about the importance of relationships but steal your returns with their onerous fees and charges. Leave.
